April 13, 20188 yr Jeter says the poor attendance this week is actually higher than this time last season as far as actual bodies in attendance. He's lying. Our eyes can tell us that.
April 13, 20188 yr He's lying. Our eyes can tell us that. Do you have images of the crowds last April after the first homestand?
April 14, 20188 yr Because it IS a reason and they may not have a bigger crowd the remainder of the season and I'm curious to know how well Jax draws the rest of the year. I still never said that they should be drawing bigger crowds than the Marlins. Don't put words in my mouth. I know what you like in your mouth! Lol
April 14, 20188 yr Do you have images of the crowds last April after the first homestand? Do you? I watched the games last year and this year. Crowds look noticeably smaller.
April 14, 20188 yr I call BS on that too. A Thursday night home game vs. the Mets in April 2017 had a reported attendance of 23,100. We all know that Loria fudged the numbers but there's no way he inflated them by 17,000. Just looking with your eyes tells you there were more people in the crowd. It’s emptier there now, without a doubt in my mind.
April 14, 20188 yr Do you? I watched the games last year and this year. Crowds look noticeably smaller. as someone who was there, they are essentially the same.
April 14, 20188 yr Read the comments after the tweet. It’s all relative I guess. Look at these idiots complaining about 30K a night
April 14, 20188 yr Regarding this year vs last year. Here’s a screen cap from the Thursday April 13 2017 game vs the Mets. Draw your own conclusion.

And that was considered "poor" attendance right? That seems pretty damn respectable for the Marlins. Definitely room to grow and below what other teams draw but that's a decent sized crowd.

April 14, 20188 yr Done what multiple times? Backed off from the temptation of dumping more money into a team that has posted losing records for 8 consecutive seasons? I don't think it is productive to drum up the rebuild vs. "sign a couple pitchers" debate from the winter. But tell me how moving the core of last year's loser team looks anything like a) the Firesale of Winter 1997, b) Trading members from the 2003 WS Team after the 2005 season, or c) Undoing the terrible FA signings heading into 2012. So, what are you saying? We're not in a rebuild? Who cares how we get there, a rebuild is a rebuild. The outcome is inconclusive just like any other rebuild. Just like the multiple ones we've done before this. I don't care about all that, I just want to win.

Just like the multiple ones we've done before this. I don't care about all that, I just want to win. I’m not saying that at all. You’re suggesting we’ve “done this multiple times” and I’m disagreeing. In the past we’ve traded players from winning teams and this time around we are starting over because the team was crap and not worth the money they were due. There’s a major difference.
April 15, 20188 yr I’m not saying that at all. You’re suggesting we’ve “done this multiple times” and I’m disagreeing. In the past we’ve traded players from winning teams and this time around we are starting over because the team was crap and not worth the money they were due. There’s a major difference. And like I said, you're disagreeing with a point that I do not care about, and a point that I did not make. You're the one that's fixated on those things, that has nothing to do with whether this team wins or loses in the end, that's all I care about.

That's the game I mentioned a few posts ago. The photo definitely tells the better story. Jeter is full of shit on this one. I like how it was clearly stated that it was a week of attendance mentioned and you cherry picked one day. Lol. Not saying you're wrong overall, though. Just funny to me.
April 15, 20188 yr Actually the photo posted is NOT in line with what Jeter was saying. Jeter said, on Friday, that the attendance for this past Monday Tuesday and Wednesday vs the Mets had more people in attendance than last year's first homestand AFTER the opening homestand... which actually means it was the 2nd homestand of 2017. The pic shown above is from the Mets series last April which was during the first homestand, not the second homestand. So, if we really wanna check if Jeter is wrong, we need to compare the attendance to the games vs the Pirates last April 28-30th. Anyone wanna pull up images from those games?
April 15, 20188 yr @SilverBullet1929 is earning that Marlins paycheck. Nah, I do this for free. I just like to pay attention to the details in the things I read. I'd love to be proven wrong on this one so someone please take a stab at it.
April 15, 20188 yr I’ll go through my mlb.tv app and pull an image later tonight @SilverBullet1929I was at the game today. Very weak crowd

April 16, 20188 yr Keep in mind yesterday was UM night which drew over 20k. If that’s a pic from yesterday’s game, the comparison doesn’t work unless it was UM night a year ago as well.
April 16, 20188 yr It's not cherry picking at all. In fact, it's only the real way to establish a baseline comparison between attendance in April 2018 vs. April 2017. When gauging the change in attendance figures the primary two variables are the opponent and night of the week (particularly if it's a week night vs. weekend game). Basing the assessment on "this week" or "first or second homestand" is pretty arbitrary. Last season the Marlins didn't face the Cubs or Red Sox at home in April--two teams that are massive draws for the transplant fans living in South Florida. The game I selected is one constant (that game in particular because the remainder of that series against the Mets in April 2017 took place over the weekend). Some of the stuff Jeter might be spewing might technically have some grounding in the data he has, but he's full of shit in crafting the narrative the way he is. It was exactly cherry picking. He said a week, which is a few games, and you picked one game. But again, like I said, I didn't say you were wrong.
