March 6, 20206 yr MLBTR reported a new one on the Pirates the other day. But didn't mention the Marlins, aside from mentioning the one from a couple years ago.
March 7, 20206 yr Can’t wait for the inevitable strike that seems to be brewing. The 90’s strike killed my dad from baseball permanently.
March 7, 20206 yr I will only support a strike if it means baseball pricing going back to be affordable again
March 7, 20206 yr Jeter cheap? Hardly. Yankees paid him a gazillion dollars to hit .256 with a .616 OPS in his final season. That's way beyond expensive. Makes Pujols seem cheap.
March 9, 20206 yr Does spending the way they did this offseason not help their case? So apparently the newest grievance was based upon last offseason, not this one. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/03/mlbpa-has-expanded-grievance-against-marlins-rays.html Originally, the union attacked those three teams as well as the Athletics for their allocation of revenue-sharing funds during the 2017-18 transactional period. The new claims presumably level similar charges with respect to the 2018-19 offseason. It is not specifically known whether the Oakland organization stands accused of further misdeeds. Payroll is actually a bit lower this year vs. last year, but we did spend more on free agents ($25.35M this offseason): As per Cot’s Baseball Contracts, the Marlins’ projected $68.925MM Opening Day payroll is actually lower than their $71.9MM figure from last season’s opener.
March 9, 20206 yr Still, this years spending happened and can help their case. "We were cheap last year to be able to spend and spend wisely this year" that can't hurt their case.

The funny thing is, even if we keep spending like we did this year, we'll still be "treading water" so to speak payroll wise because we have Chen coming off the books too.

That's another reason why these grievances are mostly ridiculous. There's other factors involved. They can't expect every team to be spending like the top payroll teams for many many reasons. As long as teams are spending within reason and within what it takes to contend then let them be. It makes me wonder, if a team with low payroll wins 90-100 games and reaches the World Series multiple years in a short span... would their be a grievance against them for not spending more when they've already proven they are winning consistently?

Probably not.

Well, technically it's directed at revenue sharing recipients, and the complaint is they're not spending enough of that money they're receiving. The Rays have been doing that (minus the WS win) and they're part of this grievance.
