I believe the Dodgers had interest in Cooper, might be an idea to kick those tires again.

Boston could use an upgrade at 1st base. Maybe there's a deal to be made there?

They'll have one whenever they decide Tristan Casas has improved his defense enough (cough costs less long term cough).

So if they trade FOR Laureano....they just force either Cooper or Aguilar to the bench in hopes Ng finds a trade partner - likely at rock bottom dollar in terms of any value? Alternative would be trading Cooper first (let's not kid ourselves....they have a love affair with Aguilar) and then hope the As will be willing to deal

Make an agreed in principal trade with a team for Cooper then go after Laureano with the caveat that the Laureano deal has to happen for Cooper to be shipped.

 

Never good to trade without a proper replacement ready. Otherwise we get Greg Dobbs, Starting Third Baseman.

It's really easy. If they trade for Laureano (the bolds are must plays except for banged up off days):

vs RHP

C- Stallings
1B - Aguilar, some Cooper
2B - Jazz
SS - Wendle
3B - Anderson
LF - Sanchez, some Soler (and move Sanchez to RF)
CF - Laureano, some Sanchez
RF - Garcia, some Sanchez
DH - Soler, some Cooper
B - Henry, Rojas, Berti, whoever is benched above

Effectively, Cooper sits 1/2 the time (which is fine) and Aguilar/Laureano/Garcia/Soler shuffle the other time. This is a GOOD problem as it's depth and a legitimate bat is always on the bench. If anyone gets hurt, they aren't screwed here.

vs LHP

C- Henry, some Stallings
1B - Cooper
2B - Jazz, some Berti
SS - Rojas
3B - Anderson, some Berti
LF - Sanchez, some Soler
CF - Laureano
RF - Garcia
DH - Soler, some Aguilar
B - Other catcher, Wendle, one of Jazz/Anderson/Berti, Sanchez/Aguilar

This is a bit easier on a platoon level. You're just splitting Sanchez/Aguilar basically and they can each use some built in days off. This is why I keep saying they need a backup 2B/3B who can hit lefties. Berti historically can't, be he is possessed right now so that can be addressed in July.
 

This is all fine. They have room to add a CF and everyone still gets 500+ PA. Redundancy. Depth. One way to make up ground from having a superstar, is to have a better bench. This does it.
