Samson's point was pretty accurate, though. Chapman used the Marlins a few years ago just to get the Yankees to match the offer, which, fine. Now he just wants to be paid to be home basically.

Then, it's already been stated multiple times. Quit on his team, on the way down in terms of skill, and the skillset he DOES have is no longer "magnificent" compared to his peers which is one reason he was so dominant for so long, it was basically him and Kimbrel who could do what they did. And that's just the baseball side of things ...

Yea but what does this matter now though? As long as he wants to play here and is here to succeed then who cares? He's in a different stage in his career now. What he did back then was lame but it's part of the business, don't think it was personal against the Marlins, he was looking for a payday and a chance to win. Now he's looking at a chance to extend his career and would prefer to do it in his hometown. As long as he's not asking for a contract in Miami to purposely tank his 2022 and just get paid then so what?

That part maybe doesn't matter as much as the rest of the items I mentioned, relating to his baseball ability at this point, and also the off-field stuff that I'm not a fan of either but that's in the past ... willing to forgive but not forget sort of thing so long as he's made the proper strides. Doesn't seem like he really has, though, if he's quitting on his team.

There's very little risk here on the right type of deal.

Yeah but last year WAS the first year where they really cracked down on it and inspected thoroughly so that sentiment still stands.

I also want to say he was one of the ones who struggled when they initially started to make changes in the middle of the '21 season too and his numbers dipped after that but were offset a bit by the earlier part of the season where it wasn't looked at.

And then ... it seems like spin rates started coming back up. Entirely possible that the pitchers adjusted or just found other workarounds. lol

FWIW, I feel a lot better knowing Chapman has other offers in the sense that maybe he actually has looked good and it isn't just the Marlins throwing money at someone that no one else wants.

more than anything my fear is that they won't get rid of him if he stinks and keep running him out there over and over because "We SPeNt $$ On HiM"

it's whatever if they sign him. I won't be angry but i won't be thrilled either.  If for some reason they do give him a deal for more than a year that WOULD piss me off though. 

If Chapman signs here is he automatically given the closer spot or does he have to earn it?
