The guy is done for the season but will remain with the team during their next homestand... there was no reason to clear out his locker as if he was never stepping foot in that clubhouse again. And then for the team to be all mysterious and withhold an explanation until the next day as if there was a serious issue is a completely botched way of handling this. There's no defending that. You always find a way to miss the point of what's being discussed.
