Series Preview: Marlins at Mets

Featured Replies

The Marlins will begin their final road trip of the season with a three game series against the Mets beginning on Tuesday.

Entering play on Tuesday, Miami is one game back of both the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks. Those teams control the 2nd and 3rd Wild-Card spots, and the Marlins own the tiebreaker on both squads. The Cincinnati Reds remain in the hunt as well, just 1.5 games behind Miami.

Braxton Garrett will get the ball for the Marlins in the series opener, with Joey Lucchesi on the other side. This is a rematch of last week's game in Miami, where the Marlins came out 4-3 winners. Garrett out-pitched Lucchesi in that contest, with six strong innings and was in line for the win until a blown save by Tanner Scott.

In the middle game of the series, Miami currently had TBD listed as the starter. This could end up being another bullpen game for the Marlins, as they continue to try and patch together a starting rotation for the remainder of the season. Miami is without the services of Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez the rest of the way. Kodai Senga will start for the Mets in this game, coming off a shaky start against the Marlins a week ago. Senga only ended up allowing two runs in six innings, but Miami managed to scatter seven hits off him.

Jesus Luzardo will oppose David Peterson in Thursday's series finale. Luzardo surrendered three runs in five innings in his last start, which came against Milwaukee. Luzardo was hurt most in his final inning of work, a four-run frame for the Brewers. Peterson has had a rough month of September, with his ERA approaching six and his WHIP sitting at 1.58. Peterson faced the Marlins back on March 31st, where he allowed one run on eight hits in his five innings of work.

The status of Luis Arráez for this series is currently unknown, after the All-Star tweaked his ankle on the dugout steps in Saturday's game. Arraez did not play on Sunday and was seen in a walking boot following the game. Miami has not provided an update on his status, and he is officially considered day-to-day.

Tuesday's first pitch at Citi Field is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

It’s amazing how something as small as a comma (or lack there of) can completely change the meaning of a sentence.

That’s fine. I know you can handle him or her all on your own.
