August 19, 20241 yr Interesting to see this year's #2 pick is rated higher than the #1, don't know if they factored his injury in. Also, only two Marlins players are in the MLB top 100 at least they actually drafted those two. The system is improved with trades but has a long way to go

August 20, 20241 yr Author Agustin, De Los Santos, and Norby all listed as #10 at their position rankings overall (Norby is ranked as a 2b). White and Snelling are at #3 and #9 for LHP. Luis Cova was #21st ranked for international prospects signed. Noble Meyer is free falling faster and on a Jacob Berry trajectory right now. Sanoja and Cerna are the two having the most impressive years. Have no idea why Coley is ranked. Keyner Benitez is a young guy who is intriguing with a lot of upside. Johnson was ranked above Morlando in most pre-draft reports. They agreed to pick Morlando and sign him under slot so they could throw more money Johnson's way to sway him from going to college. Johnson is probably more the "true" #1 pick taking into account the circumstances.

It is, however, very big and multiple IFS. If the starting rotation comes back to form with Sandy leading the way and remain healthy. Sandy can be back and leading the charge with a decimated rotation if other's health is no good. However - Sandy, Luzardo, Brax, maybe Max [bullpen? TBD], Ed if his recent-ish numbers are forreals [if not then we really should try him as a reliever guy dude], Weathers, and Eury coming back - quite a few options, at least. If the bats we acquired this deadline come up and make an immediate impact. Our offense is notoriously just bad no matter who gets in the lineup the last few years, but if we finally have some game changers with the bats, that goes a long way. Combine those two IFS together, then yes, this is a playoff team. Requires so much to go right, though.

It's easy to forget that the Marlins have one of the best starting rotations in baseball when healthy. If the offense can just even be close to league average next season (which I understand is a tall task), then I think the Marlins definitely have a shot. You have to be really bad to not at least contend for a playoff spot with three Wild Cards now, and I think you would have to be really crazy to think that the Marlins are this bad when healthy. Literally the entire starting pitching staff has been hurt this year. Edited August 20, 20241 yr by Valid
