To avoid a potential challenge from the MLBPA, would the Marlins consider taking on the roughly $17 million owed Seattle outfielder/DH Mitch Haniger this year if the Mariners added catching prospect Harry Ford to the deal?

A recent Locked On Mariners podcast discussed the proposal:

Ford, who turns 22 years old next month, is a Top 50 prospect at MLB.com:

No. they don’t care. It’s all about Bruce profit.

Why would the mariners do that tho lol. They might be kinda good

The reportedly cash-strapped Seattle Mariners could shed Mitch Haniger’s $17 million salary in order to pursue a more productive bat.

According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Marlins may need to increase their payroll or risk losing their revenue-sharing status.

Adding Haniger’s salary could help the Marlins retain revenue-sharing status while adding a top catching prospect.

Who knows…..DiPoto likes to do weird unexpected moves.

Does the grievance from the MLBPA even have teeth? They never settled the prior grievance in 2018. Also, Marlins can just claim they’re using that money for infrastructure and would have to be proven wrong. They’re not taking on shitty contracts for prospects, theyre not doing shit

It sure doesn’t seem like it.

They’ll probably just point to their international and draft spending to pretend like they’re reinvesting things and then nothing will happen…

Last offseason Seattle traded Jarred Kelenic to Atlanta dump upwards of $29 million in salaries owed to Marco Gonzales and Evan White.

Bendix is really determined.

Ridiculous that our spending the last 2 offseasons is $5M….

Should we just post up the 2025-2026 Offseason Thread now since this season is over already?

Marlins have 4 top 100 prospects on Law’s new list that just dropped.

And 1 of them are Bendix’s doing!

We should just become a part of the farm system for some other real team - we basically are already that anyway.

@Michael what’s this do for the w-l?

Sounds like a Marlins thing to do.

I hear Ichiro wants to convince that one writer he should’ve been unanimously inducted - maybe we can sign him….he’d be the best player on the team.
