January 14, 20251 yr ‘Transformational’ Entertainment Development Planned At Marlins Stadium – The Next MiamiThe Miami Marlins have announced a partnership with The Cordish Companies to develop an entertainment district at their stadium. The new district will be known as Miami Live!, and will be similar to others developed by Cordish in Arlington, Texas and Kansas City.Miami Live! will include indoor and outdoor dining, entertainment, and gathering areas. It will be located at the West Plaza of loanDepot park, and open to the public.“Miami Live! will become the living room for the community and offer a new year-round gathering place for locals and visitors alike,” said David Cordish, Chairman and CEO of The Cordish Companies. The project will be privately financed. The official opening is anticipated for early 2026.I guess there will be something entertaining on this property, because it certainly won’t be inside the ballpark.

I mean they’re expecting it to be a year round place to go.. and then when it’s the offseason and they realize that nobody wants to drive to Marlins park just to go to an “entertainment district” in the offseason.. as if Miami didn’t have plenty of those already to go to. 😂I mean I never wish failure on anyone. But it just seems like a dumb idea. Of those things like “yeah Kansas City and Texas Rangers have something similar in their stadium. But I mean people actually show up there.”Who knows? It could be a smashing success.. 😂

And while it has improved in recent years, it’s still not an area where people go hang out, and as mentioned, I doubt this will cause that alone. I can see it being a hang out spot for a bit before/after games or events hosted at the park, but otherwise, it won’t be a destination.I’m guessing it’ll at least be open when the park isn’t as well?
January 14, 20251 yr I feel like these outsiders think Miami is more “lit” than it is. 90% of the residents work 9-5 and come home to their families at night and aren’t doing stuff like this. And the tourists and alcoholic coke-heads that fuel the few clubs that are left aren’t going there. Like @SirFishFan said, hopefully it goes well, but I highly doubt it 🤷🏻♂️

That development company has made similar venues all around.. they made the one right next to the Braves stadium and I went to that one last year. It’s a cool venue with all kinds of bars and restaurants right there surrounding the stadium and also situated near apartment buildings and other businesses etc. So it’s a cool vibe and venue and very convenient for fans and even people who live near by and always something going on and stuff to do.It’s been a few years since I was around loanDepot park.. but from what I remember didn’t really seem to have the same vibe in the surrounding areas. Like unless maybe you live within a few miles of the park. Otherwise yeah I agree, probably most regular Miami folk aren’t going out of their way to go over there especially on a weeknight. And the people who aren’t from Miami and have this perception of big party town are only really thinking of Miami Beach which is just a very tiny part of Miami. They don’t realize almost all of Miami is just like single family homes and stores and highways and as you said just regular people working 9-5 and not the crazy party town vibe they think and especially not downtown Miami around the Marlins park. But who knows maybe the Marlins will get good in 3-5 years and people will show up to the park.. as is always the hope. 😂 Edited January 15, 20251 yr by SirFishFan

Lol) and that whole area called “the battery” absolutely blew my mind!! But the vibe is completely different. It’s in the equivalent of Brickell so not only is it built where tons of people with money live in buildings that are walking distance away but they actually built condos IN The Battery so people essentially live at the stadium. Honestly it is the definition of what a stadium should be. The people by loan depot stand outside trying to get people to park in their driveway for $15…they’re not dropping $23 on a Long Island iced tea and $18 tostones lol Edited January 15, 20251 yr by marlinsmaniac

The Battery is definitely a cool place to hangout and hang around. The same development company is going to build the new Marlins park entertainment district. But yeah surrounding the park is like private homes and stuff. So it will be very interesting to watch how everything turns out.

This place will be semi-popular for a month as the “new cool thing” and then people will realize there’s nothing else around and abandon it, where it’ll be dependent on non-existent ballpark traffic. The LIVE branding will go away and we’ll get the obligatory Duffy’s or Ale House branding.8 hours ago, SirFishFan said:Yeah exactly. The Battery is definitely a cool place to hangout and hang around. Putting one ‘cool” bar on stadium grounds that they lock up when closed (they put massive gates around the park years ago so you can’t get within 50 -100 feet of the building when closed) will not attract people long term, IMO.
January 15, 20251 yr This whole area is entirely pointless without a main draw for the fans.Fans arent coming out JUST FOR THIS.Marlins management continuing the 20 year tradition of being completely clueless about the community they play in and how to actually market themselves. But when you have carpetbaggers always in charge….
January 15, 20251 yr So Bruce Sherman DOES know what a waste of money is… he just chooses to spend it on crap like this instead of a crap 3B.
January 15, 20251 yr This is fantastic!!!Everyone’s gonna bitch and complain because that’s what they do but I was literally at Globe Life Field last month and I spent some time at “Texas Live!” and I loved it and I was repeatedly thinking that the Marlins needed something like this at LoanDepot Park… little did I know they’d be getting essentially the same thing. This is what Loria and Samson promised would come to the area around the ballpark in 2012 but they could never actually deliver on that promise and if I’m reading it right and the Marlins are actually funding this on their own then that’s great news and literally one of the greatest things Bruce Sherman will ever do for this organization. Big props to Bruce on this one if he’s actually the one funding it.Anyone complaining about this has no clue what they’re talking about and/or is misunderstanding what this is and what the point of it is.

That said, it won’t amount to a hill of beans if the team doesn’t improve.

I just know my Miami peeps and no one is going to go there lol hopefully I’m 100% wrong but dude I’ve seen way better ideas that work everywhere else go to shit when they reach Miami.

Look at the Panthers how their ticket sales, revenues, etc. have exploded since they started spending on players and being consistently competitive over the last 5+ years. The Heat are consistently good, and have good sales/revenue. The town doesn’t support a perpetually losing team (the Dolphins are sort of an enigma here, but they at least “try” to be competitive). You can put all the cool things in the world around the park, and it won’t matter because people don’t go to a stadium area to hang out without a winning product. There are a few exceptions like Atlanta or Fenway or whatever where there are a lot of places surrounding the park.I guess it’s good to “start” somewhere by getting more attractions in the area, but at the end of the day, if the team isn’t consistently competitive, people will NOT come out. And what’ll happen in a few years - this place will rebrand 15 times because nobody can keep it running with how little traffic there is. Edited January 23, 20251 yr by rmc523

Seems like they are willing to invest so much money in everything besides the roster thinking that it will help bring people out to the park. 😂One analogy I can think of is this: I’m sure most of you have seen the Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares and hotel shows. On some episodes he goes to restaurants where the owners spend tens of thousands of dollars on decor and fancy artwork and whatnot, meanwhile the restaurant is losing money and about to shutdown because no one is showing up and 9/10 times it’s because the food is complete trash and at the end of the day that is what will mainly get people in the door at restaurants is an amazing product namely great food.Same with the Marlins. As we’ve all discussed so many times over the years it’s like a broken record here. Simple formula, put a winning team on the field and people will show up. It’s really that simple. Great to make fancy decorations and external things to the ballpark to try to keep up with the modern trends of MLB stadiums but what’s the point if barely anyone is coming to the park?People used to show up in Pro Player Stadium which was a football stadium built in the 80’s with weird dimensions, bare bones decorations and some awkward seating some places. But ppl didn’t care that much because you had a chance to maybe see Dontrelle Willis throw a 2 hit Shutout, Juan Pierre steal 3 bases, Castillo go 4 for 4 and Miguel Cabrera hit a monster HR and you felt like the Marlins had a legitimate chance to win almost every night. Stuff like that brought out the bigger crowds because it was a quality product on the field. Now having a new entertainment district is not a bad idea in theory and it might temporarily bring people out to the park at first. But I mean if the Marlins are only averaging 8k-10k a night, at some point they’re probably going to wonder why people aren’t showing up. And maybe they’ll realize it’s because they were so willing to invest in everything else except putting a great team on the field. But then again, maybe not. Trusting the process for like the 10th time in the past 15 years. 😂
