gobucks
I know it sounds like I am jumping on this guys band wagon cause he had a huge day today but I have been watching him since he came over in the Mantei trade. This guy has tremendous upside but whenever he gets going he suffers an injury. The issue with his age set him back in scouts eyes but he is still a five tool switch hitter with huge upside. This team puts alot of importance in defense and therefore their best line-up may be cabrera-lf pierre-cf nunez-rf conine/choi-1b castillo-2b agone-ss lowel-3b and castro-c. platoon conine and choi with conine getting some additional ab's in the of. I just think that Nunez may never get going if he does not get consistent ab's. If he does get those ab's he could be the switch hitter we need. Obviously he needs to have a great spring and a minor injury to choi/cordero or conine wouldn't hurt his chances either. Not that i am rooting for anyone to get hurt. Just my thoughts. Remeber Cabrera could be starting the year in AAA and we wouldn't have won the World series if he hadn't gotten an opportunity to play everyday last year. sheff#1
dont preach to us about starting him he has shown he can do it in spring but when it comes to the big show he cant step up. id rather have a proven clutch hitter in conine over nunez any day
bman8316
If he could keep it up I wouldnt mind seeing him in the outfield and Conine at 1st, (if Choi struggles) but until he proves himself the Marlins will have to stick with Conine and Choi. What has Choi done? I would like to see the best players on the Field which might be Nunez after all.

gobucks
sheff#1, He has never had a shot in the big leagues. You guys are right about proven guys, i just think Mckeon should take a shot with this guy and give him 75 - 100 ab's early in the season. If he makes the team and gets 4 ab's once a week we may never see how good he could be.

sheff#1
i have no problem starting nunez but not over conine..theres a place for nunez in LF if choi continues to stink it up and conine can move over to first.

Guest Juanky
I'd like to see Nu?ez get his shot. If he proves over ST that he is ready for a job and Choi proves he is not for the time being (which I am not thiking will happen, at least not the latter of the two), then by all means start him. I do think however either way he will be on the club and will be a force to be reckoned with.
Clapinski02
Just my thoughts. Remeber Cabrera could be starting the year in AAA and we wouldn't have won the World series if he hadn't gotten an opportunity to play everyday last year. Cabrera started out of necessity, Nunez would be playing just because. There is a difference there. We didn't call Cabrera up just to see how he would play; we called him up because we needed a 3B. Marlins2003
The most compelling reason for Nunez winning a starting role (if in fact he can prove himself in ST) is if Lowell is injured and Cabs moves to third, filling in for Mikey. The Fish are going to give Big Choi every chance to succeed, not just during ST but at least for a few months into the season. And this idea of moving Pierre to LF is sheer lunacy. No one is going to displace JP in centerfield, not after his contribution last season. Trader Jack is nothing if not loyal. If (a big "if") Nunez forces his way into the starting lineup it will be at one of the corner OF positions, not in CF.
Heckeroo
pierre doesn't have the arm for Lf he's tailor made for CF, especially pro player's
farmer_fran
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I say give it about 2-3 weeks and I think we'll be able to see what we've got in this team.
Shamrock
Pierre would be one of the worst LF in the game.
DTrizzle
I say Choi and Nunez duke it out and earn a starting spot... Whoever performs better this spring gets the spot and Conine will play the odd position..If the winner does poor during the season then they switch once again.. DTrizzle
BTW, how well does Nunez perform defesively and what kind of hitter does he project to be?
WildMarlinMan2003
Choi is 3 for 13 with 2 doubles this spring. Nunez is 2 for 8 with 2 HR this spring. I think Nunez will make the team but he's only had 1 good game. Relax, Choi is a much better hitter then you people think.

Wild Card
Right now it's a race bewteen Choi and Abe. Both have torn up the minors and have no real major league accomplishments. Both are big power hitters from the left side of the plate (although Abe is switch), but Abe brings speed and possibly average to the table as well, compared to Choi's defense and on-base percentage. Who will win the spot? We have quite a nice battle going on here, boys.
farmer_fran
I wouldn't say that it's Choi against Nunez playing for a starting job. I would say it's more like the job is Choi's as of right now and Nunez is really going to have to tear it up in the spring if he wants that to change.
TSwift25
Look, it's down to Nunez and Choi for the last spot in the lineup, whoever does better wins the spot. It's no secret that I'd rather have Conine at first so he's healthy all year, the OF is demanding no matter how in shape you are, and it would probably be better for the team if Nunez plays well enough to earn a spot in the lineup and Choi starts out in a friendly environment such as AAA and earns his confidence back. However, Beinfest seems to be really high on Choi, so I think come opening day, he's going to be at first, barring a disastrous spring; talk to me in two weeks though, that's when everyone should be evaluated... Marlins2003
Where do you guys get some of this stuff? It comes down to Choi and Abe? Choi is on the 25 man roster, Abe is not. Abe can earn a spot on the team but it has nothing to do with Choi. Sheesh.
Wild Card
and Choi starts out in a friendly environment such as AAA and earns his confidence back. How would going to triple-A BOOST his confidence? If I were him, I'd be crushed.
