  1. That's awesome. I wonder if it will inspire Jack to make a stop over to MB at some point? :mischief2
  2. Hey FishFanInPa, what happened to your Syracuse Orange? 1-6? Rutgers, traditionally bad, is in line for a bowl even... Syracuse has the worst QB in the NCAA's and that includes whatever QB Duke brings out there. You sure you wanna go there? I mean...they're pretty terrible.
  3. I find it interesting that only one person besides me has commented on this story, which is pretty big news. The biggest thing about it to me is the chilling thought that someone pointed out to me: "There was a grown man walking around in the White House named Scooter??"
  4. I dont think that is the real one, as I believe its just the shouder modification that Virginia Tech got last night. USC and Miami along with Oregon are all getting new ones. Pete Carroll declined for USC. Those one-shoulder jerseys Tech sported yesterday are absolutely atrocious. It seems Nike has decided that each year they're going to find a way to top themselves in the ugly department. I noticed also that Duke football has changed their jerseys in each of the last 3 seasons. I think the plan is to roll out a new uniform every season until we get a winning record and make that season's uniform the permanent choice. Of course, by that point we might end up with blue and white zebra-striped pants and polka-dotted jerseys, and helmets with a mural depicting the previous year's goalpost celebration after the one ACC win. /rant about our hopeless football team
  5. Color me surprised. WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Windy City hasn't even held the victory parade to celebrate the Chicago White Sox first World Series title since 1917 and already the odds makers at PinnacleSports.com have calculated the odds on which team will win next year's World Series. The largest sports betting site on the Internet, PinnacleSports.com has created odds on all 30 Major League teams winning the Series in 2006 and the newly crowned world champions are not the favorite to repeat next season. It should really come as no surprise that the team with a payroll exceeding $200 million has been installed as the favorite to capture their 27th World Series title as PinnacleSports.com has made the New York Yankees 5/1 favorites to win it all in 2006. The St. Louis Cardinals, who finished with a league-best 100 wins this season, are listed as a close second at 11/2 odds to win the World Series next year. According to PinnacleSports.com the 2004 world champion Boston Red Sox (8/1), 2003 champion Florida Marlins (11/1) and ALCS runner-up Los Angeles Angels (12/1) should also figure into the World Series chase. Despite sweeping their way to their first World Series title in 88 years, the White Sox are slightly off the pace to win another world championship next year at 15/1. After making an impressive second half run that found them both just missing out on the playoffs, the Cleveland Indians (15/1) and Oakland Athletics (16/1) appear to be solid contenders again next season. Meanwhile, PinnacleSports.com has listed the World Series runner-up Houston Astros at 18/1 to win their first championship in team history in 2006. At the other end of the spectrum, PinnacleSports.com lists the Milwaukee Brewers (100/1), Pittsburgh Pirates (100/1), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (150/1), Colorado Rockies (200/1) and Kansas City Royals (300/1) as the long shots to win the 2006 World Series. Current Odds: *All Odds Subject To Change* Odds To Win 2006 World Series New York Yankees 5/1 St. Louis Cardinals 11/2 Boston Red Sox 8/1 Florida Marlins 11/1 Los Angeles Angels 12/1 Chicago White Sox 15/1 Cleveland Indians 15/1 Oakland Athletics 16/1 Chicago Cubs 17/1 Houston Astros 18/1 Minnesota Twins 20/1 Atlanta Braves 20/1 Philadelphia Phillies 25/1 New York Mets 26/1 San Francisco Giants 31/1 Texas Rangers 42/1 San Diego Padres 42/1 Los Angeles Dodgers 47/1 Arizona Diamondbacks 65/1 Baltimore Orioles 65/1 Toronto Blue Jays 70/1 Washington Nationals 70/1 Cincinnati Reds 80/1 Detroit Tigers 80/1 Seattle Mariners 90/1 Milwaukee Brewers 100/1 Pittsburgh Pirates 100/1 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 150/1 Colorado Rockies 200/1 Kansas City Royals 300/1 link
  6. Between the #1 Devils and the impressively 36th-ranked Tar Heels, what's not to like? The preseason ESPN/USA Today poll came out today: Take four returning senior starters from a 27-win team. Add a bunch of big-time freshmen. What do you get? The nation's No. 1 team. That talented mix of experience and youth has carried Duke to the top spot in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll. The Blue Devils (27-6 last season), returning All-Americans J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams, received 28 of a possible 31 first-place votes and 767 points, easily pushing them past Connecticut, which landed at No. 2 despite not receiving a first-place vote and still dealing with the ongoing suspensions of point guards Marcus Williams and A.J. Price. Big 12 co-favorite Texas (two first-place votes) is a close third, followed by Villanova (one first-place vote), which recently lost senior Curtis Sumpter to a knee injury, and Big Ten preseason pick Michigan State, fresh off last season's Final Four appearance. Texas' Red River rival, Oklahoma, is sixth, with Gonzaga, Louisville, Arizona and Kentucky rounding out the top 10. Behind Craig Smith and Jared Dudley, ACC newcomer Boston College is 11th, followed by Conference USA favorite Memphis, Stanford, Alabama and West Virginia, which fell just short of last season's Final Four and returns sharpshooting big man Kevin Pittsnogle. Gerry McNamara and Syracuse are 16th, followed by last year's finalist, Illinois, then UCLA and Wake Forest (tied for 18th) and Iowa at No. 20. The final five include Maryland, Indiana, Iowa State, George Washington and Nevada. Defending national champion North Carolina, having lost its top seven scorers from last season, received 16 points, placing them 36th. link--from ESPN
  7. I doubt anyone with his temperament would let a 2-inning stint in Game 1 of the WS and not being able to come out of the pen in extras in Game 3 be the end of his career. Do you think Josh would do the same if he were in the same situation?
  8. Regarding Gonzalez, if you decide not to re-sign him then you might want to consider trading Castillo as well and really shake up the team. I'm not advocating it, just making an observation. Castillo would bring alot in a trade (perhaps more than any other "available", non-core player, and in the right situation it could be a net positive for the Marlins. Not quite sure how you can call Castillo a non-core player. It's not coincidental that our two biggest tail-spins of the season coincided with time when he was unable to play due to injury. He has the most accurate (and arguably strongest) throwing arm among any of our infielders, and Hermida excluded, he's the only player that figures to be in the lineup next season that makes the pitcher work. Castillo's the most valuable player on our team that no one gives any credit to, and I think trading him says (perhaps even more strongly than trading Delgado) that we're in full on rebuilding mode. I was about to say the same thing until I read down and saw you beat me to it. While Castle may be able to bring a sizable amount in a trade, I don't know if whoever we get would be as good a fit for this team as he has been. Luis is a defensive stalwart at second and is by far the best table-setter on the team, a vital role considering we will likely still have the Cabs/Carlos duo to follow him.
  9. Some 49ers fan must have had a lot of time on their hands.
  10. We should be kinda decent this season, right Passion?

  15. I've yet to hear a charity song that didn't come off sounding incredibly over-the-top.
  16. She was quite a courageous woman to take a stand against injustice the way she did. Rest in peace, Mrs. Parks.

Mildren 10 Tie Abercrombie & Fitch, Just Kidding I mean McCann There's my Baby Marlin! I'm curious to see how he does moving up a level next year, because he was extremely impressive at Jupiter.
  20. Why don't we throw some ungodly amount of money (5 million a year? I'll donate!) to Leo Mazzone? I can dream..... I was thinking the exact same thing. We've got a ton of young pitchers and he's the best pitching coach in baseball. If by some fluke we got Mazzone, I think this team would be scary good.
  21. Not going to say "good signing" because I think the jury's out, but I think it's great to have it out of the way, and certainly, good luck to Girardi. I agree. Gets the big distraction out of the way so now we can focus on getting/keeping players. As far as Girardi goes, good luck to him, but from my point of view, it's really hard to evaluate him with hardly any coaching experience to go by.
  22. does anybody have espn insider they have a rumor section which is prob. fake but still interesting, it talks bout manny, a.j. leiter, gordon, phils and cashman at GM Yeah, I do. Nothing too earthshaking out there right now though.
  23. OK seriously, whoever heard of a 5-team trade? This thing is beyond fake.
