LOWELL
Now to the touchie subjects' Lowell, Connie and Hermida; both need to contribute in their own ways. Hermida is needed for a lefty bat with some swat. A young spark for the team. Connie is needed for his solid dependable play. Lowell for his leadership and to get going like he did in july (320 for the month with his most RBis for a month). Basically, what I am saying is everyone needs to help out. 925083 Good stuff. No matter what role that may be in, you can't discount that Conine and Lowell will probably have a part in whatever success we have this month...we've all seen that Mikey can make an impact off the bench (see: 2003 NLCS) and Conine's contributed a ton in a part-time gig this season. We don't yet know what we have in Hermida. Maybe a starter, maybe a role player. That being said, I think that the difference down the stretch will be staying healthy (Castle, Duca) and the middle relief not getting lit up so that the starters and offense have a bit of a cushion.

It's not that Marlins fans don't have class...they're too busy saying how "hawt" Miguel is. :plain

HERMIDA!!!
Wow...what a welcome to the bigs. First player since 1898 to hit a grand slam in his first MLB at bat.

The yard markers left behind on the field
That was the best baseball to come out since RBI Baseball for NES 923548 I was partial to Bases Loaded II myself. Am I crazy or was there a Lowell on the Miami team in that game? Is there a way to look that up?

Tonights game on Espn.
I love espn games when Boog is brodcasting... Boog rules. 923520 I don't think it's Boog, I thought I heard him say on the show he had the Braves-Natspos game.

AJ calls our attendance depressing
Can't wait for him to sign with the Yankees and crack under the pressure of New York and suck it up like his buddy Pavano. 923423 I don't really think he's going to the Yankees. He'll go to a middle-payroll team that feels like making an investment. From the comments he makes, it seems to me he wants to be the ace of a staff.
-
AJ calls our attendance depressing
Boog is making a pretty hilarious statement about fans not going to the game right now. Someone came on complaining about traffic and he's like, "There are other cities with traffic and very little mass transit, and people still go to the games. There's always going to be traffic, it's a part of life...sure everyone is going to be like, 'I want to get into the stadium for $4, I want to sit next to Jack McKeon, I want there to be no traffic in or out, even though 60,000 people are at the game...' but that's not going to happen."

AJ calls our attendance depressing
I still stand by my theory that the Marlins need a stadium you can drop by, rather than one that you trek to for an event. You go to a baseball game. You go to the football game. 923384 Too bad there's no place in South Florida where everyone can just drop by. Unless the state feels like investing in some teleportation equipment, that is. :mischief2

Hermida sitting next to Loria / Resop optioned
gotta think Hammer is about ready to come off the DL 923372 I'm guessing we'd keep him on the DL until we're ready to make a decision about either him or Hermida potentially being on a potential playoff roster (I'm really trying to skirt a jinx here), since there is a need for a position player to be on the DL if we're going to K-Rod Hermida (at least the way I understand the loophole).
-
Hermida sitting next to Loria / Resop optioned
Jeremy Hermida can do more good for this team than any available position player acquired in a trade. 923212 So if we, say, swung a deal for Griffey...not saying we did, but he is technically an "available position player," would you stand by that statement?

Burnett lost himself a little cash tonight
Oh, come now. I'm sure that team deals in the offseason wasn't foremost in his mind last night. He is one of the few players that i've seen have fire in his eyes to get to the post season. 921943 I agree...I think (and how could it not?) having to sit and watch the team win it all in '03 without him gave him even more motivation to get to the playoffs and be a difference-maker. He had a bad game but chances are, even if he pitched well, Chris Carpenter has been blowing everyone away lately--we might still have lost.

Riedling to DL, Resop to the fish
Isn't it as long as there is someone on the DL, you can take anyone in the organization to fill their playoff spot? So it doesn't really matter too much if Hermida or anyone else is up by Wednesday. Also...whoever said it is right. I guess you can go on the DL for sucking.

I quoted part of that in the game chat... :plain Good stuff.

September Call Ups
I'd dig that... CF Pierre 2B Castillo 1B Delgado 3B Cabrera RF Encarnacion C Lo Duca LF Hermida SS Gonzalez Potent lineup 918160 Why would you take Niner out of the lineup? If you're going to change from the opening day lineup, the way it is now (with Luis and Duca back, obviously) would be the way to go. The most crucial stretch of the season is no time to be replacing a productive player with someone who has yet to play in a major league game. Maybe Hermida is the next Miggy but the odds are decidedly not in his favor, and this isn't really the time to find out.

September Call Ups
Mordy is a class act, I actually hope Jack uses him a couple of times, maybe we can bring back some of that Mordy Magic from 03. 917387 I remember being at the game when Mordy came in to catch last season...it'd be awesome to have a guy like that around who's another veteran and willing to do pretty much anything asked of him.

Red Sox doing away with 'Yankees Suck' shirts
They made me turn my Yankees Suck shirt inside out at a Sox-Yanks game last year...I thought they were joking when they first asked. And I don't really know how they're going to stop random people from selling the shirts outside of Fenway, which is how it works.

Randy Messenger
The kid was impressive today. Low 90's fastball with alot of movement it looked like. What else does he throw? 917138 Has a nice curveball as well from what I've seen...his main issue is control.

For Your Reading......
Idiot. Marlins or Astros clearly have the best starting pitching in the race.

how many wins?
Somewhere between 85-88 will make it. 915703 You got it. The wild card is not going to have 92 wins this year, and I'll be surprised if it's even 90.

Sun-Sentinel - Hyde
True...what was it? about 17,000? Thats pretty good IMO! I went to a 1pm Monday game last year...and it was only about 10,000, lol...fun though! It was vs the D-Backs...we all got Donuts from Krispy Kreme!! :thumbup 912186 I was also there--but bad example as I'm pretty sure it was Memorial Day.

Bullpen Vent
Why do people need to start looking for roster changes after every loss? We just went 3 days with consecutive shutouts. I'm sure these guys get a little rusty not even having to warm up for a few days. These are good relievers. Give them a chance. The roster is fine as is. 909894 I agree...we've got some decent pitchers out there but they're underperforming. Anyone we'd be able to easily get in a waiver trade would likely be a downgrade talent-wise unless we pull a Chad Fox and catch lightning in a bottle.

Bench Place(s)
Aguila is probably the one young bench player that hasn't been left to rot in the dugout--at least not since he was recalled from AAA in the middle of the season. Jack has shown he doesn't mind playing him as a fill-in and he'd more than likely get some PT if Enc's injury persists and JP is still struggling. I'd imagine Jorg is being kept around because by all accounts, Lo Duca looks to be having a pretty rough time with his leg and given that the bench isn't being used all that much anyway, a third catcher doesn't seem like a bad idea. But all in all, we still have 3 guys in Conine, Easley, and Aguila who are versatile enough to cover the positions where we've got injury issues right now, and in a couple weeks we can stock the bench with all sorts of people who will never play, maybe even Mordy. :thumbup
