Wow man, that's lame.

I think that even more than winning, the factor slowing attendance is that South Florida is an area with a lot of transplants and we just haven't been around long enough to establish a fanbase large enough to get a consistent 30,000+ attendance--beyond the first couple seasons when the novelty factor was in play. But this group seems to be both committed to winning and to keeping the team in South Florida, so hopefully the slow upward creep in attendance will continue to build.

That's really cool. The one thing you can say about the Panthers is that they've always (at least since they moved to the new arena) been extremely generous with season ticket holder benefits. I remember when we were given vouchers for additional seats to games of our choosing, special gifts (including a Pavel Bure autographed stick) and discounts, and even a STH-only autograph session at which every player on the team was present. From what I've seen on this board about the Marlins...and I can't really comment because we only had a 20-game plan in 97-98, it seems they might need to look across town and get some lessons.

The game was a lot of fun. It would have been nice if our power play wasn't taking a sh*t on their lives, but other than that it was great. The pace is incredibly different from television. Yeah...I had season tickets for 3 seasons and it's the one thing that you can't really describe to anyone, they just have to see it for themselves: for some reason, hockey is the one sport that really does not translate well to TV at all.

I remember it... "Believe me!!! It's. Our..Timmmmme.Now... to let 'em know!" It's DMX, "Bloodline Anthem" I've had it on my iPod since then. lol. Along with Aerosmith- "Dream On" and U2- "Where the Streets Have No Name"... they used those two on those season highlight packages. I remember those videos gave me chills, especially the "Dream On" one. That's definitely it. I'm not even a rap fan but as a Marlins fan I had to get it. Thanks!

I'll have to check out the Heinlein since I was a big fan of both Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land. I'd been meaning to pick up another of his books, actually.

Good luck with the flying thing. I hate flying--thankfully I have my car now to make the long drive from the northeast to NC and vice versa. Most people are fine with it, but I get altitude sickness (NOT motion sickness as I don't get seasick or have any effect when I'm on rollercoasters and the like), plus I'm small and because of that, get crowded by the people sitting next to me, and basically from beginning to end want it to be over as quickly as possible.

6. Living in the city of a sports team you dont like sucks (I lived in Chapel Hill a while back) and will skew your perception of the nationwide fan base. Wow, that's gotta suck, dude. Gives me chills just to think about. Then again, I believe the last time I was over there was getting run out of Kenan Stadium by the mob as one of the few Canes fans to watch that travesty. If only they knew we went to Duke too! :plain

Jack, Even after a tough season like this past one, it's been quite a treat to watch the Marlins under your management. The fact that winning records the past two years have been considered disappointing shows how much you were able to raise the expectations of everyone who follows this team. I'll never forget the amazing run in 2003 and the many thrilling victories in the years that followed, as well as the hilarious quotes. (Conine is now Steve to all of us.) Good luck in the future and thank you for the memories. Matt

Despite everything that has happened lately, I still think keeping Burnett was the correct move. This team should have made the playoffs. Unfortunately a shaky bullpen and injuries contributed to its downfall. I agree...at the time AJ was pitching extremely well and the team was surging, it looked like only a matter of time before they got in playoff position. Though it will never be looked at as one of the "great collapses" because we were never really that much in front of anything, the speed and totality of the way the team fell apart this season is staggering and something that I doubt anyone would have been able to predict on 31-July. And since it keeps being quoted with nobody answering, the "Sanchez" in question is Anibal Sanchez, a pitcher who is fairly well-regarded but not one of the Sox' top prospects. I believe the person who originally asked about him was thinking of Hanley Ramirez, who is their top positional prospect.

Knew it was crap to start...Loria says his #1 thing is winning and that would not be a move that would help a team win, both in getting rid of a great player and character guy, and in making it much harder to sign any more FA's.
