1. Genetic research could be the key to our own future evolution. Not to mention it would benefit humanity in ways we cannot even begin to imagine. But as with most things that have a great upside, they also have a great downside - which was the point of my original post anyways. Same with Nuclear technologies. We'll never be able to achieve true space exploration without nuclear research. BTW, France was just selected as the host of a test Nuclear Fission plant which is infinitely more efficient than our current nuclear technologies and does not produce nuclear waste. Slowly but surely we get past all the hesitation and get to our goals, and while as a pessimist I could definitely agree that at the moment it seems like we will never be responsible enough to achieve and control any of these technologies. But I prefer to remain optimistic about such matters :thumbup
2. Jeff Torberg?? Are you serious?? 838466 Yes. Do you have another suggestion? Otherwise, just keep picking your nose. 838479 *pick, pick, pick* Actually I do have another suggestion. LEAVE JACK ALONE. :fyou
3. WTF arn't these guys the freakin' EXPOS???
4. Jeff Torberg?? Are you serious??
5. Absolutely, but then again I also think we should be researching all kinds of technologies. I'm all for Nuclear Fission, Stem Cell research, anything that propels us into the future. I have faith that we as a species should be collectively responsible and intelligent enough to use all these technologies towards progress, instead of for destruction - i.e. nuclear bomb/warheads etc. But then again, this is incredibly idealistic and naive. :confused
6. There's no way this even goes through... They will make this go away, mark my words - nothing will come of it. Rove is the overlord of Washington.
7. Mark, feel free to use the new and improved graphix for Riedling Rainbow: Riedling Rainbow Theme Song If anyone can PM me how to make this play w/o having to click on it, I'd greatly appreciate it :thumbup
8. hahaha, I have one of the giveaway rings - those things are crapola, I hope Jeff "My son is a professional wrestler and I let him be the team mascot" Torborg got one of those. That's hilarious :lol
9. Bastante bien But this is an English forum after all :thumbup Anyways - we tried to get Fuentes already, Rockies are unusually attached to him (maybe they want to move Preston Wilson along with him since no one will take him willingly), and Gordon is saving the Yankees' ass right now. Him and Mariano ARE the Yankees' bullpen so they won't part with him easily. Don't sell Olsen so short, he has a lot of potential and has shown a lot of poise for such a young kid. I predict he will turn out to be just as green as Penn was for the Orioles but I hope I'm wrong. Zito's a pipe dream, maybe Beinfest can pull it off but thats a big if, especially now that the A's are doing a little better :confused
10. Tom Gordon pitched up a storm in Detroit tonight, 2 innings pitched of perfect relief. He's a horse, but I don't know if I'm sold on him - I think our bullpen's doing pretty good atm, and once we get Alfonseca back he would be redundant. Plus, there's already one "Flash" in South Florida If we get Gordon by trading Encarnacion (wet dream) Alfonseca can be a luxury if he comes back healthy and pitching well. I personally have never liked Alfonseca and I have always thought he was overrated. Him and and Looper always made me stand up, get nervous, or get piss at them while watching them pitch. I also don't know how effective he will be when he gets back. Our Bullpen so far. Resop- I like him alot but don't know if he is ready Bump- nothing special but eats inning's we need him. Keeper De los Santos- has been effective so far not sure if he can keep it up. Keeper Mecir- he can only pitch one inning and his # have been opn the decline as of late Mota- Can't handle closing but is one hell of a set-up man. pitching effective lately. keeper Jones- keeper has experience don't see him losing his effectiveness. Keeper IMO our bullpen is not good enough right now and still won't be with Alfonseca coming back. 837756 De acuerdo, pero I'm still not sold on the idea that Tom Gordon is worth a Juan Encarnacion :confused
11. I'm just happy I don't have to deal w/ 32cutter's bullsh*t anymore. God, that freaking guy was annoying.

13. John Franco was just designated to assignment by the Astros, you guys wanna pick him up too? :lol
14. Lowell should be rotting on the pine with Cabrera moved to 3rd and Willingham playing LF. 837698 I like the idea of Cabs @ 3rd... But then I think about all the great things that Mike has done for this team, and how he has been a franchise player for us, and I just feel dirty and rotten. But I definitely agree, at this point it seems like thats the best solution if we're going to make a run at this thing. I wouldn't be against him being sent down to work on his swing, but it would be like trying to send Giamboid down, I suspect.
15. those are the worst boards in existence... I am so grateful for these boards - thanks Lawrence!!
16. If he starts what would the lineup look like? I would think he'd be lower in the lineup. I Would put him at 7th with Alex behind him. Alex is a great 8th spot hitter since he swings at everything, and is somewhat of a threat so they can't just pitch around Lowell... What do you guys think, start, sit, trade, waiver? :headscratch
17. DAN LE BATARD, WHERE ARE YOU? I KNOW YOU ARE READING THIS!!!!!!!!!
18. I'm not saying deal him for the first thing that anyone offers. I'm just saying, if something shows up - Encarnacion is expendable. I trust LB, he's made some great deals in the past and I'm sure he'll make the right decision.
19. I posted some of the reasons people hate him on another thread but it got swamped quickly so here it is again: There was a little while there where he was swinging at AWFUL pitches, like literarily in the dirt. He was missing badly and looking REALLY bad at the plate. He got benched for that, and he started throwing hissy fits and acting like a total douche bag, which is where he dropped the ball, at least for me. Thats when I really started hating him - he's all about himself and I don't think he really cares about the team or winning. Which is why he earned the nickname "Encanceracion". Recently hes been hitting the first pitch pretty well. A lot of his hits during this hot streak have been swinging at the first pitch, and those hits weren't dropping when he wasn't so hot. All this coupled w/ the fact that sometimes he plays downright shoddy defense in RF w/ no hussle is why some people, including me, don't like him very much. 837615 1. He is not the only one swinging at AWFUL pitches - is called slumping, not seeing the ball well, bad plate discipline. If you hate this, go hate on JP and Lowell 2. acting like douche bag? When? 3. dropped the ball? PLEASE! 4. shoddy defense in RF w/ no hussle - LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! 837617 1. CHECK and DONE. 2. Complaining to the media saying being on the bench is "a waste of his time" and overall pouting and being a bad influence in the clubhouse. 3. Dropped the ball as in crossed the line, meaning I got fed up with him. 4. I can't even begin to count the times we've seen him jogging to a catchable ball and being very careless out there in RF... Satisfied?
