  1. Here's a quick update from my "source" (and I'm not trying to be a pseudo-journalist here a'la CapeFish, but Marlins2003 and iFesta know who I mean when I say that this "source" is pretty damn connected with what's going on with the stadium deal). We were at the UM-Marshall game yesterday and going around the neighborhood talking about where things are going. Let's just say the Marlins have re-engaged the talks and are definitely looking at the OB. However, there is one remaining obstacle (which is huge) that may derail the project for a time period. I cannot divulge what the "obstacle" is (I was sworn to secrecy), but it is considerable. That's what I've got for now. Trust me, the "source" is impeccable. On a personal note, for those of you that have called the "neighborhood" low-class, you haven't been there. Some of the architecture of the homes located in the vicinity of NW 15 Ave. and NW 10 Street are beautiful stately Spanish/Mediterranean homes that have begun a wave of refurbishment. And you tell me what "low-class" neighborhood currently has homes selling for $375,000.00! Also, we parked in a place that had us in and out of the OB with no traffic, and there were 40,000 there yesterday. It also dawned on me as an irrational pipe dream that the City of Miami should eliminate the "No Parking-Tow Away Zone" signs for OB Events all around the neighborhoods and perhaps meter every possible side street around. What a great way to generate municipal revenue (and recreate the Fenway feel of all the streets!). That was just me.... Spit it out already! Trust me, I cannot say what the "obstacle" is. I just wanted to give you all an update and say that things ARE moving forward. This is a complex legal transaction and not something you can just wave a magic wand at. My guess, "complex legal transaction" = who becomes the owner of the Orange Bowl, the county or the city. The county is putting in a nice chunk of change.

    Daniel Barone

Is this guy for real? So far he's putting up impressive numbers in a batter's league. Any thoughts?
  3. Well the building between N.W. 2nd and N.W 3rd Street houses the Miami-Dade Parks and Rec Dept. The county is just finshing up a new government building just west of the old arena. Maybe and this is just a maybe, the employees from this building will move to the new building and this structure is no longer needed. Now, as for the building bounded by I-95 and N.W 3rd Street, that's a school. I really don't see that being demolished.
  4. ? Though more work is needed on the funding gap, word is recent progress has been made in the Marlins' stadium talks as MLB has become more involved. (One involved government official said he's a lot more optimistic now.) The focus is on the downtown site just north of the Stephen P. Clark Center (not the Miami Arena site). Miami-Dade County manager George Burgess hopes to present a proposal to the commission in ``weeks, not months.'' Chatter Column in today's Miami Herald (By: Barry Jackson) http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/16371420.htm Sounds great!!!!
  5. I heard it too. He mentioned it twice. The second time was during his interview with M. Berandino. According to him the only people in this meeting will be: County Manager G. Burgess, officials from the City of Miami and MLB only (no one from the team). I guess we'll have to wait. Maybe gobucks, marlins2003, cape or quadruple play can add to this.
  6. Downtown Miami is 1st for me b/c of Metrorail. I'm 10 minutes south of the Dadeland South Station. It's only a 10 minute ride into Downtown on the rail. It would be very convenient. Hialeah would be a bit of a drive but Pompano would be a nightmare when you consider all the northbound traffic.
  7. No meeting tomorrow, see today's Sun Sentinel. The meeting was postponed.
  8. Can anyone shed some info on this matter. Does this add more fuel to the City of Miami Stadium front?
  9. Here's the link, scroll to the bottom under "Times and Meeting" http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...-sports-marlins I can't believe this. What's going on? Is this positve or negative? Does anyone have a clue?
  10. Gobucks: Is there any chance this gets re-visited if the Aug. 30th meeting doesn't go as planned? You still mention that funding is a big issue w/Hialeah and Mayor Robiana stated this week that the finances need to make sense. I think he's doing everything he can but he'll decline if $$$$ don't make sense.
  11. Yes, to the Angels. I would take Kendry Morales, Jeff Mathis and either Joe Saunders or Ervin Santana. I know it's alot but that's the price. Morales would play RF, moving Hermida to CF. Mathis would be the catcher of the future and Santana/Saunders woulf fill a spot in the rotation or join the pen.
  12. That is the truth. Herges is terrible. As for Wellmeyer, how can a guy who has tools like physical make-up and a good fastball be so bad. He has absolutely no control. Incredible
  13. Something really good is going on b/c Hank is doing his best "Anti-Marlin Stadium" rant this morning. He's bringing up the old cost overruns argument up. I can't stand this guy.
  14. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/14477296.htm STADIUM UPDATE Marlins president David Samson met with Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina, Miami Dade County manager George Burgess and Miami Dade County commissioner Jose Diaz to continue discussing using property tax money from a yet-to-be-developed industrial park area in Hialeah to bridge the funding gap toward a new stadium. ''It was very positive. It looks great for the future,'' Diaz said. -- BARRY JACKSON Even the herald has something positive. Everthing seems to be going great.
