Politics Poll 2007
I'm not sure how anyone can say Global Warming doesn't exist. Any scientist with any sort of credibility will say it is true. The question is how much the human effect is.

Expected Lineup
Putting aside the fact that batting order has a nominal effect on expected runs over the course of a season, here's mine: Hermida Hanley Cabs Jake Willingham Uggla Ross/Borchard (I am set that this is who I want out there. Read moneyball and you'll see my thoughts on defense in the chapter on Jeremy Giambi) Olivo Pitcher

Marlins still searching...
The kid is going to be a great player. He's posted OBP at or around .400 every season in the minors, and once he fills out he's going to be a 20 homer 30 steal guy. If we could get him for JJ, I'd do it.

Also, The Decemberists are gonna be playing the House of Blue in Orlando on April 8th. I'm gonna go to that one for sure.

Heats-Mavs war of words
Have any of you guys who are complaining about Wade actually watched the NBA in the past 2 decades? This is nothing new. I actually thought everyone in the world just sort of assumes the NBA is at least a little fixed at this point. I mean, the Bulls, Pistons, Lakers, Knicks, and Heat will always get their calls at home. Thats the way it is. Have you noticed it's the league's biggest stars who lead in FT shots? Always.

Volstad on the table?
Volstad is untouchable in the organization's eyes, and I am tempted to agree with them. Kid's gonna be an ace.

Heats-Mavs war of words
The brilliance on this board is apparent. I've said my piece, I'll let you homer jokers have at the best team and the greatest owner in the league now. Enjoy! Hooray delusions! I wasn't being a homer by saying that. I just find Cuban hugely annoying. Woohoo, he goes to the games and yells at the ref. Like a 5 year old, or maybe a drunk. His blog isn't the least bit entertaining. If you didn't know it was being written by the owner of a professional sports team, nobody would read it. It's terribly written. Yet the hits don't lie. Ah yes, we all know popularity is a great benchmark for intelligent, well written prose. This is why Dan Brown is widely considered one of the top literary minds in our world.

Reds lock up Arroyo through 2011
I just don't like the thouht of Arroyo, a fly ball pitcher pitching in that band box. He's due for a huge ERA spike.

Marlins have baseball's hottest infield
Because Michael Young is a better player than Hanley, at this time. The only thing that Hanley has over Young is stolen bases. Young is better RBI and HR man, even though he only hit 14 last season. At this stage, Hanley is younger but I think Young has the better overall game. Could change but for now I think Texas has a better IF than us. Uggla and Kinsler is a tossup at this point. Hanley's rookie season was better than all but one of Young's seasons (05) and was almost exactly the same as Young's 2nd best season. And Young plays in a much better park for hitters. And you have to think he can only improve from here. I'd argue right now, Hanley is the better player. Better defender too.

Reds lock up Arroyo through 2011
Best 1-2 punch in the NL (if not baseball) is now locked up for 4 years. I am giddy! I would argue the Cubs (Zambrano/Hill), Astros (Oswalt/Jennings, who isn't even that good, but Oswalt is so much better than both that it's a wash), Cardinals (I'll take Carpenter and whoever over Arroyo/Harrang), Dodgers (Schmidt/Lowe or Penny), Padres (Peavy/Bush), and the Marlins easily over the two of them. What a joke.

Prince Halftime Show
Why not? They've sold tons of albums. Have a lot of hits that either don't contain swearing or aren't depending on the swearing being in there. The average NFL fan probably LISTENS to Metallica, has their albums, or has heard enough of them not to care. They'd have to chop their stuff up, to get more than one song in there, however, since every track of theirs averages 7 minutes, however. I find it more ridiculous when they invite people who don't make sense. Sorry, but Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Jessica Simpson (aside from her TnA), Shania Twain, No Doubt, Britney Spears, etc., etc don't "fit." I mean, sure, you can't have Slipknot or any other Nu Metal/hardcore stuff out there, but at least put something out there the fans can enjoy and that kind of fits the theme of the spectacle that is the Superbowl. Hell, I'd rather have John Williams and his orchestra out there doing the NFL Classics themes than the crap Mtv and Disney usually put out there. Metallica is way too "dangerous" to play the superbowl. The Suits would never allow it. Although since the napster thing I am convince that they have no souls and only care about money (which isn't an inherently bad thing), I wouldn't be surprised if they did it if it was offered.

Top 10 Films of 2006
Blood Diamonds was supposed to be great. Huh. Well, according to the critics on Rottentomatoes.com it's SUPPOSED to be pretty below mediocre. 63% rating, which means it got 193 reviews and 72 were bad. And some of the good reviews aren't even that great or praiseworth of the film. Not to mention, after watching the trailer the only thing I could tell you about it was, "Some people call it bling-bling. Out heah it's bling-BLAW!" I mean, if we're going to go on the way stuff is supposed to be, I can tell you that Also, Dream Girls isn't as good as everyone says. Don't believe the hype. Even the peeps on here excited about Miami Vice, for the most part, said it either sucked or was mediocre. That being said, it'd be much easier to make a bottom ten or twenty for the last year of movies. Not that this year's is much better. I was going through the upcoming releases and aside from about five or six flicks, nothing really piqued my interest. I just think it was a bad year for movies and I question your personal preferences, which we could talk about and debate until we're blue in the face. But, I think, the overall picture of movies released last year painted a sh*tty painting. There might have been good parts, but overall it was kind of plain with a few, very few, points of light sprinkled throughout. I tend to lean towards more comedies than anything in movies. I also enjoy a movie that makes me think, and I don't tend to like dramatic movies unless they are war movies. Movies I love: Patton Clerks Waking Life High FIdelity I tend to not like the movies that the Academy picks as the best.

I'm going to discount your list because you have Miami Vice on it. No, but seriously. I think all but two or three movies on your list qualify as special. The rest are plain and I could see their mediocre equivalent any other year. But, that's me. I have a higher standard for movies than most, I guess. That movie suffered in most people's eyes because it didn't have enough action, or it didn't have anything to do with the original, but it was a well shot and well written crime drama. Also, Blood Diamonds was supposed to be great. Maybe this is just the first year I've really seen a bunch of movies so I thought there were more good ones than normal, but I don't remember last year being much better. What were the best movies last year?

I thought it was a great performance, but Paul McCartney 2 years ago was the best. Can't top "Helter Skelter".

Top 10 Films of 2006
I think it was an amazing year for movies. Some of the best movies I've seen in a long time came out this year. Care to name some, then? Let's see your top ten. My movie viewing was way down this year because of the sucky selection and movies I actually wanted to see were few and far between. Children of Men was one of the best movies I've seen in the past decade. Little Miss Sunshine Pan's Labrynth The Departed The Prestige Casino Royale (a good movie despite the bond label) Thank You For Smoking United 93 Cars (great animated movie) Borat Clerks II Miami Vice Not to mention Letters from Iwo Jima, which I never saw but which is supposed to be stunning, and Dreamgirls which is supposed to be great. And there have been numerous documentaries (Neil Young- Heart of Gold, Inconvenient Truth) which are great too. And there were alot of comedies that might not have been great movies, but were more than worth the 8 bucks you pay to see them in theatres (or 2 hours you spend to watch on your pc. Tenacious D, Van Wilder, Jackass 2, and a couple of others. Maybe I have low standards for movies, but I thought there were plenty of worthwhile movies, and more so than in past years.

How will Aaron Boone do as Jacobs platoon partner?
Aaron Boone Career OPS: .754 Wes Helms Career OPS: .778 Stop acting like Wes Helms had huge expectations for this year. He had a monster year that he will likely never even come close to again in his career. We honestly didn't lose that much in Wes Helms. Sure he was GREAT for us last year, but this year he'll most likely regress to his career norms, and we'll be glad we have Boone putting up almost the same numbers for 1/6th of the price.
