  1. if I'm a Rangers fan I'm pissed at Cruz almost as much as Feliz. That catch on the Freese triple wins the World Series. Gotta get yer fatass back to the wall and catch it. No time for jogging around back there. If it was such an easy catch why be pissed at Feliz? Wash deserves the most blame.
  2. Cabrera looked like an orca whale beaching itself on that dive. :lol the man can hit, but jesus Cabs you have got to drop some weight... He's one of the best 2 or 3 hitters in baseball the past few years being fat. Howard was a much better hitter when he was fat. If a player is great being fat what's the problem?
  3. BR’s Rdrs says he's a -1 run.. and supposedly Rdrs is better than Rtot which is the one that says he's +16 runs... the sabermetrics defensive stats are all over the place. Any GM that pays big bucks based on Rtot or Rdrs or UZR is retarded.
  4. The league average OPS+ for 2B over the past several seasons is 99 and he's at 90 right now. In determining his "overall" value I assume you're using defensive metrics that are not reliable.
  5. This is similar to the Buck deal in that it’s too much money for a below average hitter but it’s not a lot of money so it’s not that big of a deal.. combined though that’s $10M for two below average hitters for their position in your lineup. I prefer Infante in the utility role.
  6. Unless they find a retarded GM they would have to eat salary to trade him.
  7. Who leads the league in OPS? OBP? SLG? HR? OPS+? WAR? RC? WPA? wOBA? I would vote for Cabrera over Bautista.
  8. I think Dominguez will be maybe a 2 WAR player because of his defense alone, but he's going to OPS less than .700. I'd rather he start 2012 in AAA. I think it's more likely he'll be below a 1.0 WAR player. His bat will be a negative few runs. The only way he's a 2.0 WAR player is if his defense is about +25 runs. I'll believe it when I see it. Through replacement (+20), position (+2.5), and let's be conservative and say +5 runs defensively over 600 PA (People go crazy with prospects), he'd have to be -7.5 runs offensively to match 2.0 WAR. He'd have to be a mid to upper 600 OPS bat to be that, which is roughly what I'm expecting. To be a 1 WAR player (-17 runs) we're talking upper 500/very low 600 OPS bat. Certainly possible but I don't think likely. He also has two benefits to that: 1) Could possibly be underselling his defense but like I said, people go f***ing crazy with prospects; Until he shows gold glove defense at this level, I'm not giving him gold gloves (Plus he commits a lot of errors; He's only once finished a season with a FLD% higher than .950 and is at .944 this year [MLB average is .954]. This could be a "Bonifacio" situation: Ton of errors in the minors but most people focused on RANGE and said he had excellent defense and then it turned out he's average) 2) Being really young and so hopefully will progress more offensively. But until he does, he hasn't. But I think saying 2 WAR is fair. And yeah, we shouldn't 1) Call Dominguez up until we have to (AKA protect him from Rule V draft) and 2) Not keep him here until he either a) shows he's ready or b) is out of options. In other words, we still have a lot of years left to see if he can figure it out offensively. Don't f***ing rush him, please. Oops.. I forgot about the replacement runs so he could be a 2.0 WAR guy if the defense is as good as advertised but the low fielding percentage is indeed a concern.
  9. My guess is he'll OPS between mid to high .600's. This year Infante is at .686 and that's a -8 runs in his WAR. So if Matt OPSes .686 over 600 plate appearances his offense will be about a -10 runs in WAR so his defense will have to be about +30 runs for him to get to a 2.0 WAR.
  10. I think Dominguez will be maybe a 2 WAR player because of his defense alone, but he's going to OPS less than .700. I'd rather he start 2012 in AAA. 11. Zambrano was bad too. Zambrano and Soriano are problably in the Bottom 10 current cotracts. The difference is that every big team would have given Zambrano that contract. Also, how ridiculous is it that he was allowed to stay on for another month after being fired? He must have said something like "Mr. Rickets, I understand you think I'm terrible at my job, but all the really really important things that a GM does during the season, which you think I am terrible at, needs to be done soon. Don't you want my unqualified self doing that?" I don't think that the Zambrano contract is even that bad. This is the first year he's really fallen off of a cliff (first season he's had an ERA over 4.00) and has been pretty healthy for them. And he's only 30 years old. It sucks he's on the books for that much money for 2012, though. So far he has averaged 158 innings (*) with an ERA+ of 110. That performance is not worth $18 million a year. It's not worth even half of that. There's one year left in the contract and I doubt many people expect him to be as good as 158 innings @ 110 ERA+ next year. (*) He may pitch a few more innings this year if he comes back from suspencion.

  13. Yeah this was going for years right under the nose of tough-guy-diciplinarian-squeaky-clean Shannon. This is so much fun.
  14. Thome is a good measuring stick for what Mike can become.
  15. They say he lacks plate discipline? Well, guess who leads the league in walks since the break.... well, in fairness, he is 4th in walks. Hes approaching Adam Dunn like levels of Three True Outcomes-dom since the All Star Break. Almost half of his PAs end in either a walk, a K, or a Hr. It's been said before, but if he becomes Adam Dunn with the bat, worth ~3 WAR offensively, combined with ~1 WAR defensively and ~2 WAR replacement level (less ~1/2 WAR for positional adjustment), you have a 5-7 WAR player AKA All-Star/Superstar range. Why compare him with Dunn? The Dunn comparison is an insult to Mike. Dunn's career OPS+ (128) is good for his position but nothing special. Mike's is already higher (129).
  16. Being a good hitter is about getting on base and about hitting for power. There's more to it than just batting average.
  17. So LoMo does irreparable damage to Hanley's reputation by saying Hanley was late when he wasn't causing a week of national Hanley ripping and Beinfest ignores it and does nothing to correct the wrong but LoMo doesn't go to a stupid meeting with season ticket holders and he gets demoted.
  18. According to this, he pretty much is the worst: http://espn.go.com/b...t-as-it-is-long According to hitting stats he's not.
  19. The Florida Marlins Charitable Foundation is an independent 501c(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. They are not "within the Marlins" and never have been. The FMCF has raised (and distributed) about $7 million for various charitable purposes. How much have they raised and how much have they distributed to charities? Huh? Could I have been more explicit? So they distribute to charities 100% of the funds they raise? That's hard to believe. Do you have a link?

  21. Uggla is a better hitter than Castillo, Rollins and Santiago so that's three he's a better hitter than just out the past few.
  22. I can see Wilson getting something like 5 years / $80 million and I don't see the Marlins offering that. John Lackey was considered one of the best starting pitchers in the AL for 8 years, and was consistently an around ~200 IP per year guy when he got a 5/80+ contract. I don't think a guy with two years experience starting gets that. I think he'll match what AJ and Lackey got and that's not taking into account payroll inflation because his last two years going into FA are considerably better than AJ's and Lackey's (more innings with a better ERA+).
  23. 5% off the top of every program until the budget is balanced. There will be some difficult readjustment, but once it is done, it is done. Then limit the growth of spending and pay off the debt. In a decade we could fight over how to waste the extra trillion dollars we would make every year as a result. Don't expenditures exceed revenues by somehting like 60%? If that's the case, 5% wouldn't do much.

  25. There used to be a comedy club in the Marriot by Dadeland and I worked there as a barback. The way they set up the tip splitting was that after the shift the barback was supposed to go around asking the bartenders and waitresses for a portion of their tip. To me it was horrible going around asking for money and I quit in less than a week. I had worked as a busboy at another restaurant / bar (Monty’s) and there from what I remember after the shift the waitresses put a % of their tip into a pool and then the pool was split among the busboys. That made more sense.
