Barry Bonds found guilty of obstruction of justice
From what I understand, he was convicted of obstruction of justice for his reponses to the grand jury investigating his use of PEDs. He was found guilty of supposedly giving evasive answers in an effort to impede the investigation. I guess he should have taken the 5th. But if he responds, he should respond truthfully. The jury was deadlocked in the three other charges which all were that he perjured himself in the grand jury testimony. In one of the charges (perjuring himself regarding whether he received shots from anyone other than his doctor) the jury was deadlocked 11-1 in favor of guilty and in the two other charges (perjuring himself by saying he never knowingly used PEDs) the jury was deadlocked in favor of not guilty 8-4 and 9-3.

More Super Saturday Performers Revealed
You are so ridiculous. Nonsense on stilts. My point was very simple. The white non-hispanic population isn't going to be under 10% within 10 years as was said above. Even assuming the same proportional rate of decrease from 2000 to 2010 (20.7 to 15.4 = -25.6%), in 2020 it will be about 11.5% (15.4 * .744.) Regardless, thanks for hating me. :lol So assuming the white non-hispanic decline rate remains what it has been then in 10 years (2021) the white non-hispanic population would be about 11% and I expect the factors for the white non-hispanic population decline to accelerate a bit so I have little doubt that in 10 years white non-hispanics will be less than 10% of the Miami-Dade population. You said that it would reach less than 10% in maybe 30 or 40 years and that's ridiculous.

Miami Mayoral Election
I don't live under the purview of the City of Miami, so I can't vote. That said, if I could, I wouldn't vote for a single one of them. Those guys suck. You can vote if you live in Miami-Dade. It's an election for county mayor. I'll be for the guy that puts citizens' interest ahead of that of county employees. In other words, I wont be for any of them.

If you think the Herald reporter has her numbers wrong you can see the Miami-Dade 2010 census numbers here: http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?pid=DEC_10_PL_QTPL&prodType=table Total population: 2,496,435 White, not hispanic: 383,551 - 15.4%

The Hispanic population increased in a number of cities, up 20.5 percent across Miami-Dade County, and up 38 percent in Broward County. South Florida Hispanics now total more than 2 million and make up 65 percent of Miami-Dade County’s citizenry and about 25 percent of Broward’s. In Miami-Dade, the white, non-Hispanic population dwindled 21.4 percent to 383,551 out of the 2.5 million total, or 15.4 percent. In Broward, there were 23.8 percent fewer non-Hispanic whites at the end of the decade in which the county reached so-called “minority-majority status. Now, about 44 percent of the population in Broward is white and not Hispanic, down from 58 percent in 2000. http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/03/17/v-fullstory/2120926/south-florida-is-more-diverse.html#

In 10 years the non-hispanic white population in Miami-Dade will be less than 10% Not very likely. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2000 Miami-Dade was 20.3% black, 57.3% hispanic and 20.7% non-hispanic white. In 2009 it had shifted to 19.5% black, 62.5% hispanic and 17.6% non-hispanic white. At roughly that same rate of change, in 10 years it'll be about 18-19% black, 67-68% hispanic and 14-15% non-hispanic white. 14-15% is a long way from "less than 10%." Maybe in 30 or 40 years. But then, in 30 or 40 years the new stadium will be ready to be bulldozed and the argument will have to change to which acts will be booked into the new "new" stadium. There was an article in the Herald or Sun-Sentinel a few days ago with the final 2010 Census figures. The Miami-Dade hispanic number was 65% and the non-hispanic white number was either 15% or 16%.. 15.8% I think but don't remember for sure.

Miami's demographic and those in the new Marlins stadium area are mostly Hispanic. They're catering to their demographic. It's unfortunate if native English speakers feel alienated because there are more Spanish speaking acts but it is the smarter marketing plan since they need to create a fan base in the Little Havana area for when the stadium opens. Looks to me like they're marketing to the future fan base. In 10 years the non-hispanic white population in Miami-Dade will be less than 10% and less than 25% in Broward.

Are we ready for the Prediction Thread ?
Offense: B- Starters: C Bullpen: B Defense: D+ Overall: C+ Wins: 82 to 84 How are our starters a C to you? They'll be about league average in innings per start and ERA+. I'm assuming you think Volstad and Vazquez will weigh us down. Yes.

3B status and Chris Davis
bobbob: Baseball-reference has his WAR at -0.4 so what the other guy said is nonsense whether you use baseball-reference or whatever site you used.

3B status and Chris Davis
I'm really afraid that having a dead bat in the lineup for several months like we did back in 2009 with Bonifacio is going to cost us another chance at the playoffs. Remember, we narrowly missed them in 2009 with him, and I just have a feeling that if we had even a replacement level player at that position instead of him, we make the playoffs. I hate Bonofacio but he was only 3 runs below replacement.

Who had the worst offseason?
the mets by far. plus, cowherd mentioned that this is the first time he recalls a big market team being this bad. but it's partly their fault that they got into this mess to start with, spending first tier money on second tier stars. a classic case that money can't buy winners. Colin is the only national radio show I can listen to and I like him but he says some crazy things. I guess he doesn't recall the 2010 Cubs or the 2006 Cubs.

Infante recovering from surgery
I don't get the hate towards Infante. From the article, he's dissapointed they wouldn't let him play winter ball because it helps him stay in shape and didn't lie to the reporter when asked about it. He's also openly willing to play wherever they play him and he says he's happy to be here. I have no issue with anything he said.

Greg Dobbs Signed
I like this move. I think they should keep Baker off the roster, until he's ready to catch; Dobbs can be the lefty 1B/3B off the bench, who can occasionally play some corner outfield, if absolutely necessary. Also, if Dominguez can't make the team, it's possible that Dobbs makes the team, and there's a platoon situation at 3B with him and Helms. As far as I'm concerned, that sounds better to me than Emilio Bonifacio starting everyday. I don't think you can have Dobbs at 3B on a regular or semi-regular basis. He's a horrible out there. In limited opportunities he's a -4.7/150 inning by UZR. That's not horrible. It's not good, but it's better than either Helms or Bonifacio. Baseball-reference has him a -11 or -21 depending on of their stats you use. That's "good" enough to compete for league worst 3B.

The Best Farm in all of baseball
Anyone know when baseball-reference will put up the 2010 defensive stats? I'm curious if the 2010 stats back-up the Dominguez defense talk.

Jayson Stark - Baseball's All Underrated Team
Castro is not underrated. Right now he's not even good. Dunn is a good player but is actually quite overrated. Braun is also a good player and he gets the credit he deserves. Zimmerman is very good but I wouldn't say he's underrated. From early on in his career he was getting accolades. I would say his first couple of years he was overrated but now he gets the credit he deserves.

2010 College Football Thread
The class is ranked low because they have very few commits. However, going by avg star rating, they're in the top 25. I have confidence that Golden will lure in at least a top 30 class....considering they were in the 70's when he took over, he has done an amazing job. I stopped counting at 30 teams with an average over UM's 3.0. Part of the problem is the UM bar is so low by fans and local media.. 3 star guys are considered great recruits. That's crap. Low bar leads to crap results.

2010 College Football Thread
Not that I put much credence in them but UM is apparently out of the top 25 in recruiting. Is it really that bad? This is in line to be the worst recruiting class since before Howard.
