  1. I highly doubt four years of college will sway his decision (unless is family his in GA), but we shall see. my friend in atlanta who went to gtech at the same time tex did said that he loves atlanta and the braves and would really want to play in atlanta...but that's his word, not mine. but it would be a stinky trade if he doesn't stay...knowing the cheapos in the front office, they'll let him go.
  2. Considering he probably won't stick around after the season, huge overpay by the Braves. But damn, it's going to suck to have to face him for a few months. he has one more year on the contract, so it's not a two month rental. and ample time to try to resign, especially since we'll be done with two backlogged contracts in 2009 (andruw and hampton).
  3. i think we gave up too much for this trade personally. this sounds alot like that dl drew trade we made a while back. i think trading salty was inevitable, we had no room for him. but giving up andrus and the others make me cringe that in two years, mahay and teixeira won't be on this team. also, tex is a boras client.
  4. just dropped the bum from my fantasy leagues. what a horrid pitcher. he has one decent outing that makes me want to keep him for some promise, but there are days like these that make me want to drop him. 11 er in 2/3 of an inning is simply unacceptable for any pitcher in the majors, so i finally dropped him. he should be sent down for giving up that many runs to the padres, a team not known for their bats. :banghead :banghead :banghead
  5. Am I the only one who doesn't visit ESPN.com anymore? I use cnnsi.com instead. I hate the fact that half the content is pay content, it is frustrating seeing an interesting story, clicking on it, and then seeing that it is "insider" content only. Maybe I should just man up and pay for the Insider? i'm surprised espn isn't a pay site yet. hardly go there anymore, go to yahoo sports instead.
  6. looks like my fantasy team went to bust now. ugh.
  7. I used to like evan cohen as he talked frequently about the marlins and had some good interviews about the marlins. now i don't even listen to his show anymore because it's either mets, yankees, or redsox. It's palm beaches gameday for f**ks sake!!! he actually said on monday while talking about scott olsen pulled over at 3:30 in the morning, that there isn't much marlin talk expect for the one segment and when bad things happen (miguel's weight, dontrelle's pitching, olsen's troubles), and then he goes on and talks about the muts.
  8. :chair to the pen. but that was too close. stupid pen.
  9. i hate this bullpen. it's turning into a disaster after being great for the first half of the year. and just one strike away from a shutout too...if we lose, i won't be happy for a while about this one. but i sensed it since the ninth inning that the pen was going to blow it, refer to the april 25th game thread for details. game on tbs btw.
  10. special note, his final game will be on tbs, also last game on the braves on tbs format. sad day indeed. i love biggio, and it's going to be strange without him.
  11. Braves fans outside of Atlanta, but inside the Braves territory will miss 45 games on television starting in 2008 according to this from the Montgomery Advertiser:Braves on TV: Several folks have e-mailed asking about how the change at TBS will affect Braves TV games next season. The short answer: a lot. Up until now, WTBS and TBS have been essentially the same channel. WTBS serves as the local broadcast platform for the nationally distributed TBS signal. On Oct. 1, that will change. On that day, WTBS will become Peachtree TV and will be available only in the Atlanta market. TBS will continue as is, both nationally and in Atlanta. Next year, TBS will not carry the Braves. Instead, the network will have a national package of Sunday afternoon games. Peachtree TV will have 45 regular-season Braves games, called by the announcing team of Skip Caray, Chip Caray and Joe Simpson. Unless something changes between now and then, those 45 games won't be available outside of Atlanta -- except, of course, in the MLB pay-per-view package. All of this is good news for the FSN South/SportSouth tandem, which will see its number of Braves games go from 84 this season to 105 in 2008. All the extra games -- 21 -- will be on SportSouth. Speaking of FSN South and SportSouth, the sister channels have begun broadcasting "Braves LIVE" on location from Turner Field for all remaining Friday and Saturday night home telecasts. I feel for the resident Braves fans who reside in their home area but not in Metro Atlanta. I really hope Turner Sports changes their minds and syndicates the games to stations around the Braves territory....I want some free Braves baseball in Tallahassee via Thomasville being in Georgia please! bad. sounds similar to the sun sports dramatics down here with the marlins, but far worse. i'm not in the area, so i don't know about this.
  12. How happy is San Diego right now? They traded away the #1 pick which would have been Vick and got LT and Brees in the deal. don't forget the rockies.
  13. espnnews says vick was told not to report to camp. NEW YORK (AP) -- Michael Vick was ordered by commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday to stay away from the Atlanta Falcons' training camp until the league reviews the dogfighting charges against him. "While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the Personal Conduct Policy," Goodell said in a letter to the quarterback. The NFL said Vick would still get his preseason pay and Goodell told the Falcons to withhold any disciplinary action of their own until the league's review was completed. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-v...p&type=lgns

i only watched one show of spin city, the one where one of the guys go on millionaire, and one of the buddies agrees to be his lifeline for nhl mvp for one year (forgot). the mayor gets stuck in a manhole and the lifeline had to go help him out. when the guy is on for the million dollars, he calls the lifeline and he hangs up because he's busy and he loses. that was so funny. and if the rest of the series was as good as that one, i think it would be a good show.
  15. how about the over 40 team? C. sandy alomar 1B. juilo franco (one more year and it's the over 50 team for him) 2B. craig biggio 3B. i don't know SS. omar visquel LF. barry bonds CF. kenny lofton RF. reggie sanders (he'll be 40 during this offseason) RHP. john smoltz LHP. jamie moyer CL. trevor hoffman alot harder to find 40+ position players than pitchers. Conine is better than Franco this year. okay, niner can play right field, since sanders isn't 40 yet. still looking for our third baseman.
  16. he was in a slump right before this game, but hudson gave him his bat to hit with and wow it was potent tonight. great game by harris, and the rest of the team. for those that don't know, harris hails from the same hometown as jackie robinson, cario, ga. i'm loving this kid more and more, he's great on defense, speed, and offense. if andruw goes, i see harris as next year's cf. too bad bobby doesn't play him everyday though.

  18. Who's Evan? ESPN has a radio show here again? By the way, the moment the Marlins leave 560 is the last time I will ever listen Football Radio 560 WQAM!!! evan's on espn radio 760 and has been for a while now. it's technically in st. lucie/palm beach, but still listen-able in miami. to my knowledge, espn doesn't have a radio station in the miami market proper.
  19. today on evan's show on espn radio 760 (4-7 pm), he described dontrelle as a bad pitcher that is getting worse each start. he said that his first two months were worse than the past two months, and it's partly due to bad run support. he also described passion for dontrelle being way down from 2005, when he said he wouldn't win 20, and nobody wants to see his games. evan went as far as saying the marlins are irrevelant here in south florida and he would talk more yankees, mets and red sox on the show. he also quoted tommy hutton, saying he is more of a #2 or #3 guy. also, evan wants oliver perez rather than dontrelle now, as opposed to a while back where he would take dontrelle to be a met. thought i would post this here as evan is a local talk show guy.
  20. Goodell did a dangerous thing giving Pacman the boot for the year, and I don't see how it's fair that Vick gets to let the legal system play out. Look at the Bears and Tank Johnson. The guy was released because of a speeding ticket. The NFL's most glarring weakness is their fine/punishment system. Of course, the other side of the coin is that a grand jury indictment doesn't mean anything more than that the DA has enough evidence to pursue a case. Clearly, this does not mean Vick is certainly guilty. Also, the charge is a CONSPIRACY to host dog fights. That tells me that the evidence is shaky at best. If they had stronger evidence, they would have a stronger charge than a conspiracy charge. He's probably guilty as heck but it's not what you know, it's what you can prove. 95% of all fed cases get convictions. so he's probably getting busted. these people don't mess around. side note to any rockie fans here: you are so lucky you didn't pick this loser up. drafted 30th round in 2000 by the rockies. where did you get that number? I'm curious for something completely unrelated. cowherd said it during the show.

  22. Atlanta is probably so pissed they let Shaub go now. you got it. what a stupid move.
  23. looks like vick won't be playing for the falcons this year...or maybe ever again...
  24. evan just said that olsen is a big baby and needs to be kicked off the team. third incident in two years, and he's asking where is dontrelle in all of this?
  25. what he do? not 100% sure right now, but it's something about subordination and disorderly conduct.
