NFL Week 9 Discussion
I am going heads up now in my survival pool. Teams I can't use: New England Chicago Tennessee Baltimore NY Giants Dallas Pittsburgh Washington I am between San Diego over Minnesota, Tampa over Arizona, Detroit over Denver and Green Bay over Kansas City. It's a tough week and I would appreciate any opinions. Between those, I'd save Green Bay as a sure bet down the line, and take Detroit this time.

A-Rod / Marlins Rumor Talk
I have no idea why you're talking about FA pitchers. IF YOU TRADE CABRERA YOU CAN TRADE HIM FOR PITCHERS. Example, I trade Cabrera to the Yankees and in return the Yankees trade Joba and Melky. That's a trade Melky isn't a pitcher. And we need a lot more than Joba. :mischief

Idiot. He just lost half his free agent value.

The Twins' New Ballpark
HOK made a few changes to the ballpark design. They extended the seats in leftfield and added the upper deck to the rightfield side. Not really a huge fan of all that seating in the outfield. Kinda looks like a football stadium. Upper deck outfield seats are strange. At least it's going to be fun watching players run in the snow instead of said snow making the inflatable roof of the Triple H Metrodome collapse.

Marlins accept OB site
I think Marlins2003 is right that the Marlins won't be offering to pay for cost overruns. And like fawouls' said, this makes sense as it's the city and county that chose this awful site, not the Marlins. If the Marlins offer $205M or $215M they are being very generous. Fixed. And it'll be a lot better than many teams, that's for sure.

A-Rod / Marlins Rumor Talk
Whether the ownership is true or not, the fact that many different reporters are talking about the Marlins and Arod makes me believe something is up. Like MarlinsLou said the benefits to this is huge. As much as I hate Arod, a move like this would not only be huge for the Marlins but for baseball as a whole Will A-Rod make our pitchers better?

Rules: Rule 20 ? 1 (a) OWNERSHIP AND FINANCIAL INTERESTS. "No Club, or owner, stockholder, officer, director or employee (including manager or player) of a Club, shall, directly or indirectly, own stock or any other proprietary interest or have any financial interest in any other Club in its League, provided, however, that any owner or stockholder of a Major League Club (who is not also an officer, director or employee of a Club) whose interest does not exceed 5% of such Club and whose interest does not constitute a control interest [as defined] may own a non-control interest not exceeding 5% of any other Club or Clubs in its League, unless the Commissioner determines that such ownership would not be in the best interests of Baseball." ? LOANS TO CLUBS AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS. "No Club, or owner, stockholder, officer, director or employee (including manager or player) of a Club shall, directly or indirectly, loan money to or become surety or guarantor for any Club, officer, employee or umpire of its, his or her League, unless all facts of the transaction shall first have been fully disclosed to all other Clubs in that League, and also to the Commissioner, and the transaction has been approved by them." (d) LEAGUE OFFICIALS. "No officer, employee or umpire of a League shall, directly or indirectly, own stock or any other proprietary interest or have any financial interest in any Club of his or her League, or loan money to or become surety or guarantor for any such Club." http://www.roadsidephotos.com/baseball/02-4rules.htm This is how Ted Turner got in trouble when he decided to take over as manager of the Braves in the 70s. :mischief

New windfall for all 30 MLB clubs
Ah I hate wording like that. Does it mean that the Angels are getting 30M, or the entire league? And anyway, assuming a large portion of that comes from the online shop, I doubt we're anywhere near that number. I agree the wording is a tad confusing, but as I understand it, each team is getting approximately $30 million. What the number doesn't take into account is how much the teams were anticipating, or previously receiving. Obviously it's something, but Olney makes it seem as if this is a huge financial gain, which it would have to be since we'd be talking $900 million in revenue (900/30 = 30). As for the second point, online MLB.com sales are divided among the 30 teams despite a disproportionate number of sales, much like national media contracts are divided evenly amongst the 30 teams despite disproportionate TV appearances. Finally, I'd say I very much doubt that this number accounts for merchandise element. The bulk of this revenue is from MLB.tv and MLB.tv premium. I recall reading somewhere the MLB.tv had recently surpassed 3 million subscribers, or some ungodly number. So, 3 million subscribers times (roughly) $80 per subscriber equals... $240,000,000 in revenues for MLB.tv alone. In that case, I do believe that mlb.com is generating $900M per year in profits. MLB.TV is $80, while MLB.TV Premium is $100. That's for a full year. I myself hope they implement HD streams soon. I want widescreen video, especially when they already use the HD feeds for the Blue Jays and White Sox.

New windfall for all 30 MLB clubs
There's another revenue stream that the Angels, and every other team, is now drawing once unexpected millions from: the money created by the success of MLB.com. The annual check that the Angels (and every other team) receive from this source may well exceed $30 million, by now. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index...me=olney_buster More reason to keep up my MLB.TV subscription: guaranteed support of the teams.

A-Rod / Marlins Rumor Talk
There are ways around it. Like, pay him for the rest of his career, and give him the opportunity to buy in when his career is over. He can't own it now, but that doesn't mean he can't be put in a position to buy it later.

Marlins accept OB site
Considering the past of this franchise and this ownership group, none of us should rest easy until a new stadium opens. We still have time to get started, though, for 2011. They broke ground on the Twins new ballpark in the end of this August, and they're scheduled to open at Opening Day 2010.

NFL Week 9 Discussion
For the Dolphins, it's a brief respite from the slaughter before Buffalo brings their best hope for victory next week. The Jaguars head to the Superdome. At the beginning it looked like the 'Aints were back, but suddenly Drew Brees decided to show up and they're right in the middle of the NFC South. Jags trying to show dominance over the same after stealing victory from the Bucs. Tampa Bay continues their home stand against the Cardinals. Will the Bucs be what we thought they were? Is it okay to crown their ass yet? Will Arizona let them off the hook? Waiting all day for Dallas at the Eagles. And the Ravens and Steelers are here for Monday Night. Oh, and then there's that little shindig in Indy... The most surprisingly unsurprising dominating season ever meeting with the laser, rocket arm. Again.

and yes i totally did fudge up but not having the magic in the playoff mix at all. good spot. now my predictions are perfect. Nobody's talking about the Magic this year, especially not after all the big signings in Boston. Dan Sileo says there's nothing to get excited about. I say we're going to be flying under the radar. BTW: I love Darius. He went to my high school.

Why is BK Kim a Scott Boras client? Not even Bor-ass can get him a big deal. As for Aaron Boone: Sign him. We need the hottest wife in baseball to stay with the Fish.

The 100 Most Influential Conservatives
I'm surprised Buchanan and O'Reilly were so low O'Reilly should be lower, at least in a rational world. Well any list that seriously names Keith Olbermann is automatically discredited.
