  1. and NO is a good market?! do it for a decade then talk about how good of a market they are how does OKC do for their other professional sports teams?! what kind of TV money are they going to bring in - it's a fairly narrow market for them and i'm sure advertisers/merchandisers are going to line up for OKC Oklahoma City, the city itself, is actually 2.5 times the size of Orlando. Also, they will have the rest of Oklahoma (including Tulsa, which is pretty big itself), and all of Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.
  2. how has OKC proved to be a better basketball city than seattle!?!? - because they showed up for some games as a novelty?! OKC averaged around 18,000 a game hosting 36 Hornets games in 05-06 and 35 Hornets games in 06-07. Maintaining a near-sellout for two years of an almost-full schedule is hardly "some games as a novelty". In fact, they far outstripped even the Hornets' best season in New Orleans. The only reason the Hornets didn't stay in OKC is because the NBA did not want to abandon New Orleans at a time of weakness.
  3. Issue in Seattle is the KeyArena is very small and not NBA-sized anymore. That's what sucks about it having been rebuilt in 1994 and not a few years later: they didn't imagine we'd end up with palaces like Conseco Fieldhouse.
  4. That's a rather large stepdown in market size. Makes absolutely no sense. The Sonics just need to get better on the court. OKC averaged around 18,000 a game hosting 36 Hornets games in 05-06 and 35 Hornets games in 06-07. With that in the equation, it actually makes a good deal of sense.
  5. The NBA will probably use this as an excuse to expand again. New teams in Kansas City and Seattle. Would sound about right, but Seattle needs a new arena or an ownership group man enough to handle KeyArena. Kansas City's new Sprint Arena is gonna be a beauty. I wonder how their AFL attendance is...
  6. Jason Giambi wears #25. sh*t. Oh well... still a stupid reason, because he'll look ever so stupid when he fails.

  8. They didn't give a new arena to the previous owner. They didn't give a new arena to Clay Bennett. They won't give a new arena to a new ownership group. He negotiated in good faith, and was honest from the start: a new arena agreement in a year, or he takes the Sonics away. All that matters now is whether or not he gets to leave early.
  9. The $90 price tag is the only thing that has kept me from buying it at this point. Plus the fact I'm not too impressed with the set list. That $90 price tag includes the wireless controller. You're going to have to get it eventually. I'm not upgrading to a next-gen console any time soon, but I'll be getting the PS2 version soon anyway.

Those aren't cats dammit So? They're still funny macros.
  11. A-Rod will be 44 years old at the end of a 12 year deal. They reason they want it to be a 12 year deal is because that is the season he is projected to break the record. At the rate he's hitting home runs now, it won't take him half that long.
  12. I say he's suing them for such a large amount of money to discourage them from doing this sh*t again. He said "unspecified damages". He didn't ask for $10.9M, the jury just decided to give it to him.
  13. I'll probably eat a ton of crow for this, but I think Alabama is going to beat LSU this weekend. A boy can dream, can't he?

The take on O RLY? is awesome.
  15. Hopefully Anibal fulfills the hopes he lifted with that no-no.
  16. I'm looking for a vulture outfit. I'm going to take my nephew trick-or-treating dressed up as Joe Girardi. :thumbup :banghead :banghead :banghead What? That's the only reason he worked for YES, was to wait for Joe Torre to go. (BTW: I was going to dress as Joe Girardi. He was dressing as Harry Potter.) Anyway, :lol at Girardi to take #27, as in wanting to lead the Yanks to their 27th title. What, his own #25 wasn't good enough?
  17. A-Rod will be 44 years old at the end of a 12 year deal. Barry Bonds is 43. Maybe he's looking to work with BALCo? :lol at Peter Gammons. I usually like him, but his Boston bias reared its ugly head in that package. How'd you feel if somebody interrupted your clinching game with news that they were opting out? He's just venting his frustration.
  18. It's official. Torre is on top with the Dodgers. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3090266 3 years, a bit over $13M. Even less than the Yanks offered per year, but it's three guaranteed years. Keeps him in the game to 70.
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3089753 One of Andy Reid's sons, Garrett, was just thrown in jail for 2 years for crashing his car while high on heroin. I think it was a probation violation on a previous drug dealing conviction. The judge said the Reid household was "a drug emporium", and that Andy and his wife provided no structure for his life.
  20. Good. It's radical Christians like this that give a bad name to the rest of us. They aren't Christians. They may claim to be, but they are not. :thumbup They're probably going to have to jack up their tithes.
  21. It didn't stop anyone from building the AAA. The damage potential is huge, particularly from storm surge, and especially if they don't put a roof on it.
  22. I just realized a fatal flaw with any coastal or downtown stadium... What happens when the next Hurricane Andrew comes? :|

I, for one, am for the whole rotation of continents. I would be if not for the fact that they moved Australia from Oceania to Asia. Nobody in Oceania, not even New Zealand I don't think, has the infrastructure.
  24. if big papi is a 100, i guess defense matters even less than i thought. That was among designated hitters. I don't think they bother with defensive numbers for full-time DH's. Regardless, this ranking has no merit solely because Fausto Carmona was barely a B.

It looks like Jacobs field flipped around. Very nice though, beautiful park. They say the field dimensions are very similar to PNC Park, which they claim will be neutral to batters and pitchers.
