  1. I'll wait and see, but I'm hoping he does well.
  2. I don't think that managers are all that important. I think more important are pitching and hitting coaches, guys that make a difference in a player's mechanics rather than his emotions. Fredi has been fine in my opinion.
  3. I took into account the teams' performance in August as well as the difficulty (in my opinion) of their September schedule, and here's how I feel the standings will look like. NL East NYM FLA PHI NL Central CHC STL* MIL NL West LAD ARI COL __________________ AL East BOS TB* TOR AL Central MIN CWS CLE AL West LAA ___________________ So my playoffs are gonna look like this: NL STL over NYM (NLDS) CHC over LAD (NLDS) CHC over STL (NLCS) AL BOS over MIN (ALDS) TB over LAA (ALDS) BOS over TB (ALCS) ____________________ CHC over BOS (WS) ____________________ I really hope I'm wrong and we get to see a Rays-Marlins Series. That would be beautiful.
  4. Cody's is my favorite moment even though I didn't even watch it. What a stud.
  5. I'll be watching the game with some friends at Don Shula's bar on Main Street. Is meh birthday!
  6. I think she's the lady that's in charge of the Marlins community affairs, that's why you always hear Rich and Tommy mention her in the context of a community event such as bowling.
  7. I can only speak for myself when I say that ANY team I'm a big fan of, I always expect them to succeed and make the playoffs at the least. What's the fun in watching a team when you expect them to lose? And don't throw "let's be realistic" at me. What if I don't want to? sh*t man, I like to think of sports as an escape from reality. I'm expecting the miracles when I cheer on my team. f*** reality and expectations. There might be a 1 in 100 chance of the Marlins winning the World Series this year, but I'll always be the first one to ask, "Why can't we be that 1?" Some say it's not probable. But I say it's possible, and that is why I watch everyday.
  8. I agree THEY don't deserve to be in the playoffs, but, sh*t, I frickin deserve to see this team in the playoffs after putting up with so much crap and wasting another 3 hours. I'm depressed. Anybody else depressed? I need some CBT.
  9. Another thing, when the games are shown on SUN sports here in miami, are they broadcast on another channel up in Gainesville? If not where can I watch them? Hmm. I'm not sure, maybe 50-50 sure, but I believe that you can still catch it.
  10. I rented the graphic novel at JFK library the other day in Hialeah and I recently finished it. One of the best pieces of literature I've ever taken in. Now I'm SUPER excited for the movie! I've come to the understanding though, that it is not possible for the film to make as big an impact on me as the graphic novel did. It's all the tiny unimportant details of the book that make it special to me, details that would never make it into the film, such as the "Under The Hood" articles at the end of some chapters. Elements like those give me a warm feeling that cements the book in my mind and in the end make it special. Supposedly the 'comic within a comic' Tales of the Black Freighter will be released before the film on DVD, or will be on an extended DVD, or both. Y'know, if there was one thing that I didn't find entertaining, it was Tales of the Black Freighter. Any time the black kid started reading it, I dragged through it. It was boring to me. I'm reading it for a second time as we speak, and maybe this time I'll understand the metaphor relating to the actual plot of Watchmen a little more.
  11. I took my cousin to go see it and man, that was a mess. I used to be a hardcore Star Wars fan, and even I almost fell alseep during the movie.

  13. Just curious about everyone's reason for cheering for this great team. I'm a fan out of local pride. You?
  14. Alright, I'm the perfect guy to answer this since I stayed in a dorm at UF this past spring semester. Yes, they do show the Marlins game on FSN in the dorm cable packages. If you get FSN in your apartment then there you go. No need to purchase MLB.TV (I think blackout restrictions apply). Here's to UF Marlins fans. :cheers
  15. If you can get Uggla signed to a 2-year 16 million dollar contract, I say pull the trigger. If by July we are definitely not in contention, trade him to a contender and get prospects and cash. That sounds good, but its not like we're operating under a known payroll. For all we know, they may be willing to give a guy no more than 5 million until the stadium deal is finalized, if that. Yeah that's the thing. We can only hypothesize. Right now, it's a wait-and-see game. But btw, the season ain't nowhere near finished, guys! Who's to say we don't sweep both the Phillies and Mets in every single series left with them? Why not?
  16. I'm not totally comfortable with bringing Maybin up so soon. Here's what I'd like to do: I keep Cody as my centerfielder and if by July we are defintely not in contention, trade him away for cash and maybe a prospect. And THEN bring up Maybin. But this is assuming we're not in contention, which I believe we will be. Our pitching staff is too good to not think we will be.

  18. Who the HELL cares what you call it?! Firesale or not, it's better to just discuss who it is we're gonna get rid off. As I told some old-timer at the game yesterday, who we see on the field next year all depends on what philosophy the front office adopts. Are we gonna make a run at it, or are we gonna maintain a low payroll and try to get by until we get a ballpark? I wouldn't completely rule out the idea that they might make a significant increase in payroll to try to remain competitive. The variable that will steer this boat in either direction is what goes down in the stadium talks. I think if we remain on track to open it in 2011, then we will see the front office up the payroll and keep some players. But if the opening of the park is pushed back, and we have to dish out more money to Wayne Huizenga, we will see a 19-21 million dollar team.
  19. This is excellent news, IMO. All those guys are not only easily replaceable in our system, but they also are probably at peak value right now, meaning the return will never be better. I hope we do move all those guys mentioned, except Hermida. Should be a fun off season. Agreed
  20. The guy is hilarious. I heard him speak one time when I went for a sport management seminar. He's an economics geek, which really isn't a trait fans like, but it's business, and he gets it done.
  21. I'LL BE THERE! LET'S GO NUTTS PEOPLE! TODAY IS THE DAY TO LOSE YOUR VOICE! LETS GO MARLINS *CLAPCLAP* *CLAPCLAPCLAP* LETS GO MARLINS :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms :arms
  22. Click Here Basically, it says that he's performing better than his numbers suggest, because he plays in a park that suppresses power.
  23. I was watching this game with my dad, and I started wondering why they don't show the incident to see if they're okay. But my dad mentioned that they don't show it with the idea in mind that people watching on TV would be discouraged from attending games.
  24. I didn't catch the game 'til the 9th inning, so I didn't see that. It's fun to see my manager occasionally go nutts, which Fredi does (occasionally). However, considering that these tantrums NEVER overturn the ruling on the field, I could care less if my manager is as dull as the color beige.
