Halman Stabbed to Death
This is just awful, especially if his own brother killed him. Makes me think of Marvin Gaye's dad shooting him to death.

Forget it. Is it really that big of a deal to you? It semi-was yesterday.

Gio Gonzalez to Nationals
Everyone loves talking about Gaby instead of LoMo but if that were to happen, please tell me what do you guys plan on doing to fill the void at first base? Its as if everyone wants to avoid that topic, the only reasonable way for that to work is bring in Cespedes, put LoMo at first and Boni at Left, i dont know how likely that would be Lomo to first boni to left and coggs in center they will do that because its cheap I don't really see Cogz in the mix. Granted nobody out there wants him, I don't see him being an everyday player on the big league level.

Sadly there are no female posters to back me up on this one. Guess that says it all.

Why No MB Awards?
Wait, there's an actual award for female poster? C'mon. If that's true, that's a little offensive. Posters are posters. Women were eligible for all awards. We had that one because it's a mostly male site so I wanted the female posters to have a guaranteed chance to be recognized as well. I get that the intent is to be more inclusive, but at the same time it feels wrong to me. But it also feels wrong to me when someone at a sports bar says to me, "Oh wow, you sure know a lot about sports for a woman." If I had a dime for every time I heard THAT ONE... Do you get my gist or does this just seem very feminist to you all? You probably don't understand where I'm coming from with this...because you're men.

Marlins, Reyes agree to 6 yr/106mil deal
I didn't know the road games were taxed that way either. That's complicated. Thanks. Also, unrealistic note to self: Never leave Florida.

Baseball Player Look alikes
Ah, a Psych fan! Is that Granderson? Haha yes, that's Dule Hill (Gus from Psych) on the left. I always thought he was Curtis Granderson's doppelganger. They actually tweeted each other about it this year and Dule invited Grandy to be on Psych.

Penn State - Sandusky thread
It seems like people seem to neglect discussing the fact that Sandusky has adopted six children and has taken in four foster kids. First I'm curious as to what his relationship with his wife is like and if they are biologically capable of having their own children. That might explain the adoption somewhat. Six kids is a lot though and he's fostered kids as well. It seems like he has some sort of obsession with children. Obviously much of that is sexually driven but there seems to be a whole lot going on there. I don't think his decision to live directly adjacent to an elementary school was coincidental even if he wasn't intending on molesting those school kids. One of the foster children attempted suicide within months of moving in with him...

I don't see either LoMo or Gaby being trade bait, as they're part of the team's core of players. If hell freezes over and Albert Pujols chooses Miami, then Gaby - who was part of the new uniform fashion show - is a goner. Otherwise I'm not so sure. I also heard a new idea today -- bringing Cody Ross back to play in CF. But that was just some talking head on 790 the Ticket. We all know the chant>>>>>Cody! Cody! Cody! Although I like Cody don't you think he burned that bridge when he left? Also not necessarily like his streakiness. But he sure was a hard worker and great in outfield. Oh, I wasn't necessarily advocating for his return, I just heard someone suggest that on the radio today. He'll always be a fan favorite. And I'd say the Marlins were the ones who really burned the bridge when they dealt him.

So how bout them Gators? Good thing it wasn't on TV today. Ugly win. I'll likely watch it on Sun Sports in the morning, but a part of me is wanting to sell my ticket to the FSU game. At least we're bowl eligible...for the Toilet Bowl.

The most likely scenario, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, has Miami signing one pitcher in free agency and trading for another. Frisaro pointed out that Miami "covets" James Shields of the Tampa Bay Rays and Gio Gonzalez of the Oakland A's. [...] Regardless, Gonzalez would still require a strong package, including at least one young power bat, which has been a weakness on the Athletics' roster. Marlins' left fielder Logan Morrison may fit that mold, but there are indications that Morrison is not going to be shopped this winter. - http://insider.espn....features/rumors A young, meat of the lineup, left-handed bat is nice to have - considering Logan hasn't reached his prime yet. I'd hate to see him blossom in another uniform. That being said, I believe the Marlins have plenty to offer. Considering they are willing to fill holes through free agency and trades, why not sell high on some of these prospects, packaged with Major League players w/ base salary control. Given the A's history, they would want a lot of club controlled young players in return, generally arms. Here is what I think we have to offer: Arms: Ceda BHand Volstad Nolasco (too much $ for Oakland) Koehler Sanabia West Oviedo The remainder of our Farm Dangle Cogs and Dominguez, possibly a few more players - Peterson, Skipworth (classic low risk, high reward), Wes Helms ghost You think a combination of any of those 4/5 would get a deal done to bring Gio back to SoFla? Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see... Haha sorry, I had to. Most of the pitchers and players you mentioned are definitely expendable. I'll reserve judgement on Nolasco and Peterson until Buehrle and Cespedes make their decisions.

Volstad
I actually really like Volstad. But if we can find better options for this rotation, we should try to trade him. We can't have a player making that much money in the minors. With that being said, if our 1-4 in the rotation is great, Volstad isn't a bad #5 by any means. If Volstad is kept as the No. 5 starter, then to me he's the "Oh man here we go again" guy every fifth day. Just sayin!

PurpleHaze - I never said you said those things...bobbob did. I think it would be insane to bench a guy with a 78 QB rating who averages 6.9 yards rushing and has a 10:1 TD:TO ratio. Oopsie...That's who I was responding to. Sorry -- not enough coffee today.

Spencer bothers me the most. Every single piece of news he has is negative. prefer the guys on the local paper to be homers. Matter of personal preference. This. Clark Spencer has always been a hater. Dave Hyde - hater. The Joes are the good guys. I get my day-to-day Marlins news from Capozzi and Frisaro.

2011-12 NFL Thread
You can't take away the late-game playmaking, though. I'd agree he's "not that good a QB" overall for all the reasons you state, but the fact of the matter is he has made clutch fourth quarter plays with games on the line. Who is taking that away? If anyone is trying to unfairly weight things, it's the people who say "HE JUST WINS," because they're using one or two good drives to ignore the totality of everything he does. Given that you judge him on the totality of what he does.. and that you think he's really bad... would you bench him? Probably not. He's young and does show flashes of being not terrible at time. It's worth trying to develop that for a team that's not going anywhere, 4-1 run against a pretty mediocre schedule notwithstanding. The mistake would be in taking this stretch and thinking he's secured a starting QB position and you can worry about other positions. He's shown nothing to make one think he's the guy moving forward. I'm surprised you wouldn't bench him given that: - you think he's so bad - you don't think he has shown anything to make you think he's the guy going forward - they're right in the middle of the playoff hunt down with just a few games to go - they have a capable guy in Orton who was actually better than average the past couple of seasons I never said he was 'so bad' nor did I ever say 'bad.' I said he doesn't look that good right now overall and that it can be hard to watch early in the game. But that is because -- as I have said this before -- I am 100 percent biased because I watched him play for four years in The Swamp. He gave me two of four national championships when I was in college -- this is my bias. I call it The Gator Factor. I never called him bad. His play in the NFL is FAR from perfect, but I know he will continue to work on his passing game. I'd leave him in late-game situations because I've seen him pull off comebacks in the past. For me, Tim Tebow doesn't have to be like anyone else in the NFL except himself. And a lot of people are haters and critics and skeptics. And they will continue to be. UF alum will continue to revere him. You wouldn't understand unless you were there during "The Time." I am also referring to the 2006 and 2007 UF basketball team. I support them all in the NBA, especially the one everyone loves to hate.
