Blue Jays to get rid of Rios?
Rios is 3 years older than Hermida, gives you basically the same production as Hermida( he is better defensively), but he makes MUCH more than Hermida. You can't possibly want him over Hermida. like i said, without the contract. he is much better then hermida. better numbers all around and can, get this, hit both rightys and leftys . better numbers all around and better d, id take rios if it werent for his huge contract like i said. And your point is...? Yeah, he's better than Hermida, but not by that much. What does it even matter though if there's a 0% chance the Marlins get him? Fact is, he has a contract with $60 million left on it, and Hermida doesn't. Hermida is almost as good as Rios, and he's three years younger, meaning, Hermida is more valuable right now.

Rios has $60 million left on his contract, not $2 million.

What should we do this offseason?
Uh, no it isnt, your team has no veteran middle of the rotation arm and no veteran presence in the lineup. You alsoforget about the diamonds in the rough the fo finds in the bullpen ugh. I'm tired of hearing "veteran hitter" or whatever. Talent is talent. You can be a rookie or a 10+ year veteran and the only way you will play is if you have the talent to play. Plus, next season will be Hanley's 5th full season. Cantu has played in 612 games to date which averages to almost 4 full seasons which means next season could be his 5th full season aswell. we dont NEED a veteran hitter. we need talent. no its not. we have plenty of talent in he minors. we need a veteran guy who has been there and done that. how many teams do you see with serious championship possibilities with a starting lineup of nobody over 27? every team needs a veteran presence in the lineup who has proved himself in the majors Last year's Rays didn't have anyone over 29, unless you count Cliff Floyd who only had 284 PA. Cliff Floyd and Carlos Pena. And adding Troy Percival showed a commitment to that team and that the front office believed they could win, which along with other factors made the team believe. This team doesn't believe, because every year since 2006 we have gone out with less than we've had the year before. While this team plays winning baseball in good stretches, down the actual stretch they seem to fold. Those saying we don't need veterans and that talent wins are fooling themselves. Talent is pretty useless down the stretch if it folds. Ideally, you mix good young talent with good veterans who can provide a stabilizing presence and just as importantly a reinforced belief that the team can win. Pudge was that guy in 2003. There were differences between that club and this year club, mainly fundamentals, but having one good veteran bat in the lineup the entire season (not just for the last two months of a season when a team's identity and mindset has already been forged) can do wonders. As I said, Floyd barely played last year, and Pena turned 30 during the season. We added Nick Johnson. The FO has shown a commitment that they want to win this year, otherwise they wouldn't have made a move. Talent is talent. It makes no difference whether a guy is 25, 30 or 35. Talent doesn't fold, or disappear. You either have it or you don't, it's that simple. To say a guy can improve a team just by being experienced and being a veteran is idiotic.

yes it does make sense. if it is that much money, then maybin has become a terrific player and it is worth the couple million $ to call him up. and it is pretty obvious that as a whole he would be better then hermida hermida does one thing and one thing only- hit rhp at an average rate. besides that he is terrible against leftys and terrible in the field. not hard to replace a below average platoon player. like i said, he should just be a platooning dh in the al You don't get it. The point in keeping him down there is to save money. It's not a matter of whether he will be worth it in the future, which, by the way, you don't even know if he will. And you still fail to tell me how Maybin will be a better player than Hermida, besides saying "it's obvious".

What would you do to turn this around?
I really isnt fredi. sure, he makes a bone headed decision now and then, but so do all managers. Hes not hitting, pitching, or fielding. the coach who needs to go is pres;ey. he has these guys going up there with an awful approach going up to the plate. ID love dawson/ tony perez to become the hitting coach If it's not Fredi's fault for making boneheaded decisions b/c he's not playing why is it Presley's fault? I mean, by your logic...he's not hitting. because fredi is making the decisions on whose playing and i think his impact is being extremely over thought. presley is the one who has been teaching these guys there approach for what to do for going on 4 years and weve been awful at it for the past 4 years and we k at a rediculous rate. Look what a guy like perez did with hanley with risp by teaching him a specific approach as to what to do. and the thing that pisses me off is that presley was that type of player when he played. how he got this job is beyond me The irony of that is that Hanley is hitting over .400 with RISP.

ill post what i posted a couple of days ago It really is obvious this fo has no interest in winning. They got nick for free just to make the fans not get on them. It's obvious saving money 4 years from now is more important then winning and getting a 5th starter and it shows. A team with an interest in winning fires there awful hitting coach to spark the team. A team that is interested in winning doesn't keep their cf in the minors, and a team who wants to win goes out and gets a fifth starter. This team is going nowhere until all of these things happen What will it take for you to understand that we can't call Maybin up yet? why not? hes obviously ready. it just shows they are willing to lose this entire season to save 1 million $ in a couple years I don't even know why I'm arguing with you since you actually think the FO doesn't want to win, but whatever. First of all, it's likely to be near $3 million, which is could get us a bat, pitcher, etc. in the future. Second, how do you even know that he would be better than one of our current ourfielders? first, if it is 3 million then he would be a great player and with the up rising in payroll it would be ok second, its obvious he would be better then jeremy "i should be a platoon dh" hermida. The first sentence doesn't even make sense. And it's not "obvious" that he'll be better than Hermida, considering that in his stint earlier this year he was much worse than Hermida has been this season.

The Josh Willingham trade
Trades don't always work out, but you can't bash the front office too much for that. The Marlins have fielded nearly playoff caliber teams every season since Loria and Beinfest took over. This is all in spite of them having limited financial resources to work with. We have a .503 winning percentage since they took over. We have won a World Series, and have had a winning record four of the seven years since they sook over, with the smallest payroll in the MLB. If you don't think that's impressive, then I don't know what to say. The WS is impressive but the .500 regular season record is not. I consider a .500 winning percentage to be mediocre. A .500 winning percentage would be mediocre for a team with a mediocre payroll. A .500 winning percentage for a team with the lowest payroll in the MLB means that the team has performed well above expectaions. That would be like saying if the Yankees finished a season 81-81, that would be "mediocre". That would be wrong, though, since they consistently have the highest payroll in the MLB. Mediocre for them would probably be winning around 90 games. This isn't the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. where all teams have a salary cap and everyone's payroll is about equal. This is the MLB, where one player can make more than a whole organization. For the FO to put out even a single competitive team with the resources they have is incredible.

Favorite TV Shows of All-Time
Wow, how could I forget the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson? Probably one of the funniest men on TV.

The Josh Willingham trade
I love how everyone mentions the mistakes...what about the great moves this front office has made? lol seriously? What good trades has this front office ever made? I mean should we go down the list of good players we have traded away, and got back either garbage or a player who was below avarage at best? I mean let's not open this can of worms please lol let's not totally make the front office look like a total joke... They do that on their own with each move. Wait til Thompson is in the majors as a starter for the Nats, an Nick Johnson is starting for another team, and once again we look bad with our face in the mud. Is this a serious post?

Marlinsbaseball.com Fantasy Football League
I originally set it for 1:00 so it wouldn't interfere with the Marlins game, but then someone told me that they needed the draft to be at 5:30 or later, so I set it for 8. But then that would be 1:00 AM local time for Schnellders, so I couldnt do that. I guess maybe setting it for the 23rd would be a better idea?

The Josh Willingham trade
I love how people always forget about Olsen, Smolinski, and Dean, and also forget why the Marlins made the trade in the first place. They made it for money reasons. Smolinski is not great of a prospect. Willingham's worth this season was more considering he would have a shot to send you to the playoffs. Bonifacio is so bad that this made the trade a win for the Nationals. No, it wasn't entirely for money reasons. That was the majority of it, but the Marlins knew that they probably wouldn't have received much more for a back of the rotation starter and a mid-800 OPS outfielder who plays below average defense and who has dealt with back problems which benched him for the majority of last season. And once again, you cant call the trade a win for the Nationals, especially when Smolinski has not even reached the majors yet.

FIRE FREDI
i'm just saying, i'm not a fan of the whole "once a relief pitcher gets an out, take him out" philosophy. obviously there's more than one reason we lost this game (hermida...), but.... it doesn't mean fredi's not an idiot. did anyone who defending him watch the 8th? It's called splits. My argument is that he played the splits horrifically. I don't think he played it horrifically. Yes, Meyer isn't a LOOGY, but you have to look at Dunn's numbers too. .114 higher OPS against RHP.

If a player has been hitting RHP better his whole career (i.e. Dunn), you go with the lefty (i.e. Meyer). Not that hard.

Hermida a.k.a GOD left 9 guys on base tonight
Yeah Hermida had a pretty bad game today but the team as a whole has been struggling with runners in scoring position and they never seem to come up with the big inning. Cody left 7 men on tonight and the team went 2 for 10 with RISP. It is easy to point out Hermida (because he easily had the worst game in that particular category) but the team in general has struggled. i think ross should be the least guy we should be on right now.Best defender out there and doesnt stand in home plate expecting to get a walk.Hermida is a fraud.Dan uggla an infielder is having a bad year and still is far greater than hermida's season Not really. Uggla is having a better overall season, but not by that much. Hermida has hit RHP better.

Hermida a.k.a GOD left 9 guys on base tonight
1st of all i am new here and would love to hang around for a while. Now lets focus on this thread and ask where is that guy named erik who was defending this clown 2 days ago?.I am not going to go back to the past 5 games but i will take a safe bet and say hermida has left more than 20 runners on base the past 5 games . You looking for me, tough guy? yes apologist now try to spin around how much your boy sux First off...he's not my boy. Second, I never called him "GOD." Third, I'm not even a big Hermida fan. I just put out the stats, and point to the fact, that there's no replacement for him, right now. Cameron Maybin. Maybin can't be called up until at least the 20th, and if anything he should replace Coghlan.
