  1. they should try and get victor martinez. he could play 1st with bengie behind the plate Then where would Garko play? corner outfield. but looks like the indians might keep martinez so it doesn't matter He could, but he barely has any experience there.
  2. I think Lou said a September call-up will prevent him from being a Super Two.

  4. Draft date is set for August 16th at 1:00.
  5. just read on fish bytes that he is expected to start on saturday so it wouldnt have mattered Who Badenhop? Why would he start? If anything they'd recall Miller but there's really no point in starting Hopper. Why not? A starter is way more valuable than a long reliever, and the only chance Hopper got this year to start...he did well (against Philadelphia in Philly). I'm just worried about him having a bad start, and if he does, lets say he only goes 4 inning, then who comes out to pitch 2 or 3 innings to save the rest of the bullpen. You are right that he did well in Philly but that thought just comes to mind. But why can't we just stick to the 4 man rotation? It's worked pretty well so far and they have the day off today. We have six straight games coming up, so we can't have a four-man rotation.
  6. victor martinez hitting behind hanley and in front of cantu would be awesome. but that's not going to happen since the indians asked the red sox for buchholz in any deal involving martinez The Indians turned down a Buchholz-Martinez straight up trade.
  7. Marco Scutaro and Scott Downs for Jeremy Hermida, Ryan Tucker, and Sean West. I hate to see West go, but Downs is probably the most underrated lefty reliever in baseball, and Scutaro is a solid player that can play all over the infield. Just an opinion, Tucker lovers don't get all crazy on me telling me that thirty years from now pitchers will be striving for the "Ryan Tucker Award". That would be horrible. Why would we trade our top pitching prospect, Tucker, and Hermida for a reliever and a .700 OPS infielder? Coghlan can basically give us the same production as Scutaro.

A Dodgers executive said today that there is “less than zero truth to rumored discussions that had the team sending a package centered on first baseman James Loney to Cleveland in exchange for left-hander Cliff Lee and first baseman-catcher Victor Martinez. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2009/07/no-truth-to-loney-rumors.html

  12. Two strikeouts is bad, but a home run, Two Rbis, and two runs is a good night. When he can hit a home run without striking out multiple times, then it will be a good night.
  13. Good night by Skipworth, too. He really needs to pick it up, so any good game from his so far should be a blessing. Two strikeouts is a good night? when you are batting below .200, going 1-4 with a home run translates to a .250 average on his part that day, actually better than what he has done this season. So yeah it is a very good day by his standards. It doesn't work like that. By his standards, almost anything would be a good day. He's not going to develop much if he keeps on striking out every other PA. He's also facing predominantly 22-24 year old pitchers who have been professionals for 3-4 seasons or in major college programs, plus a lot of journeymen AA types who have a few tricks up their sleeves. The fact he is doing anything is a real good indicator of success. I'm thrilled with a .250/.330/.475 line as a 19 year old in AA. He's developing just fine. Even if he's in AA all the rest of this year and next year, and then makes it to AAA in 2011, that's still awesome. I was talking about Skipworth.

  15. Everyone fear the Rabtones. BTW, isn't August 9th a bit early for the draft? Yeah, I just set a random date for now. When does everyone want to do the draft?
  16. The Athletics and Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen, sources confirmed to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. In addition, sources said the Athletics will throw in $1.5 million to the Cardinals. Holliday, 29, is eligible for free agency after this season, and has had a lackluster season overall with the Athletics, hitting .287 with 11 homers and 54 RBIs. But he has hit well this month, batting .344 with a .421 on-base percentage, and one scout who has seen him play said Tuesday that Holliday is swinging the bat as well now as he has all year. The Cardinals have been searching for a way to upgrade their offense to build some lineup protection for first baseman Albert Pujols. Earlier this season, St. Louis had indicated to other teams that it did not have a lot of money to spend, but it's possible that the Cardinals' front office could navigate that issue by getting approval from ownership, or by having Oakland kick in some money to offset the money still owed to Holliday, which is about $6 million. Oakland acquired Holliday in a trade with Colorado last fall, in the hope that he would be the anchor to the Athletics' offense. But Holliday -- and the whole Oakland offense -- has struggled for much of this year, and rival general managers have wondered if the shift in baseball's economics might compel the Athletics to move Holliday. Holliday is earning $13.5 million in salary this season, and in order for Oakland to recoup draft picks, it would have to offer him arbitration. Holliday could be in line for an award of $16 million, something that might be more difficult for the small-market Athletics to absorb. The Yankees, after all, declined to offer Bobby Abreu arbitration last fall because they feared that he might accept it. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4353256

  19. theres no way that you can say halladay isnt better than lincecum. timmy is absolutely nasty but putting up numbers like that in the al east is unreal English: Tim Linecum is better than Roy Halladay Spanish*: Tim Lincecum es mejor que Roy Halladay German*: Tim Lincecum ist besser als Roy Halladay **Translations may be somewhat off I giggled. Well done. Btdubs , Miller23, check out Dan Haren's 1st half/2nd half splits if you haven't already. They're pretty stunning. He also has a BABIP .063 higher in the second half.
  20. I'll pass on someone that's coming off of an injury. If we go after a pitcher, the most likely options would probably be someone like Brad Penny or Doug Davis.
  21. Are there any good shortstops even available right now? I don't know if I would count Jack Wilson. Yunel Escobar's name has been floating around.
  22. Marlins defeat the Padres 5-0. Nolasco: 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10 SO 2B: Ramirez (27) HR: Coghlan (4), Hermida (11)

  24. Sorry guys I don't know much about the minor leaguers, why is Stanton so great? He is a 18 year old phenom that is in Double-A right now. Remember, most of the players in Double-A are at least 22. He is the #2 prospect in all of baseball. His future is as bright as anyones. Was Cabrera like that? wasnt he in the pros at 19 or something? Stanton is 19 right now, Cabrera was 20 when he got to the majors. So far, Stanton has actually put up much better numbers than Cabrera through A and High-A.
