July 27, 200917 yr Author Major League Baseball has suspended Marlins pitcher Burke Badenhop for three games and manager Fredi Gonzalez for one as the result of Sunday's actions in Los Angeles. The league office determined that Badenhop "intentionally" hit the Dodgers' Orlando Hudson in the bottom of the seventh -- after a warning had been issued to both dugouts by home plate umpire Bob Davidson. The warning was issued after the Dodgers' Jeff Weaver hit Hanley Ramirez with a pitch in the top of the sixth. Weaver threw two pitches near Ramirez. The first one missed. Weaver received a fine by the league. According to the league, Badenhop's suspension will begin Tuesday if he doesn't appeal. Gonzalez cannot appeal his suspension, which will be served Tuesday when the Marlins play the Atlanta Braves. from fishbytes

July 27, 200917 yr It would be hilarious if the one game Freddi is out that Gaby starts and goes 3-3 or 3-4 with 3 RBI's and a game winning or walk off hit then when Freddi comes back he goes back to warming the bench. Well without Hopper our SP have to have quality starts in the Atlanta series so we don't have to overuse our bullpen.

If anything they'd recall Miller but there's really no point in starting Hopper. no way they recall miller he pitched terrible in the minors O.K Then if Sean West has another good start in the minors(which his next start should be either tonight or tomorrow night) then recall him, I'd really rather keep our bullpen strong with Badenhop in there then sticking him out to start and if he gets rocked we really don't have anyone to pitch a good 3 innings to save the rest of the arms in the pen.

We have six straight games coming up, so we can't have a four-man rotation.

We did have an off day, but the 5th straight game of the homestand is on Saturday, meaning someone would have to go on short rest. Seriously, as Erick said, a starter is way more important than a long reliever. West and Miller aren't wowing anyone in the minors either. Hopper starting is about the only thing we can do unless we get a new starter in the next 4 days.

July 27, 200917 yr I always thought Hop would make a great fifth starter given a real opportunity. He throws strikes, something nobody else can really do in that role for us right now...

By the 4th of August we are going to either use Badenhop in the rotation and call up another reliever or recall Miller/West or another SP because we have a span of 13 consecutive games vs. the Nats, Phillies and teams in the Wild Card race in Houston and Colorado.
