Hopper, Fredi Suspended

Featured Replies

just read on fish bytes that he is expected to start on saturday so it wouldnt have mattered

Who Badenhop?

Why would he start? If anything they'd recall Miller but there's really no point in starting Hopper.

Why not?

A starter is way more valuable than a long reliever, and the only chance Hopper got this year to start...he did well (against Philadelphia in Philly).

I'm just worried about him having a bad start, and if he does, lets say he only goes 4 inning, then who comes out to pitch 2 or 3 innings to save the rest of the bullpen.

You are right that he did well in Philly but that thought just comes to mind.

But why can't we just stick to the 4 man rotation?

It's worked pretty well so far and they have the day off today.

If he has a bad start, that likely would mean the Marlins are out of the game, anyways. As much as I like Burke Badenhop, I rarely ever like to see him in a game b/c, at times, it means we're out of it. As is the role of a long reliever. Starters are more valuable, and right now...Hopper gives us the best chance to win, in that slot.

As for the, just in case, long reliever...probably Brian Sanches. Our pen is pretty deep right now, so it's not a big deal.

My memories are a little hazy, but how many times have Marlins been suspended? I know Benito Santiago got a suspension waaaay back in 94 and CJ made his MLB debut, but I'll be danged if I can remember any others.

Henry Owens for 50 games for drug policy.

Our bat boy for taking Brad Penny milk drinking bet.

I think a few years ago the Marlins also suspended Olsen on there own.

Olivo also got suspended due to his showdown with Jose Reyes at the end of the season. Which he served his suspension the next year with the royals.

That is easily my favorite Marlins story of all time.

They sent Burnett away before the end of the season just to be rid of his cancerous self. Not exactly a suspension, just a "don't let the door smack you in the a** on the way out".

Two suspensions well worth it.

I couldn't agree w/ you more. I was starting to wonder if this team had the drive to make a playoff run. But instead of taking the beating, they gave it back. That's one of the first times this season I've seen some fire from these guys. This is the kind of spark that galvanizes a team.

Didn't Baker get hit after Orlando Hudson got beaned? I thought a Marlins player got plunked after Hopper was ejected.

No it's a judgement call by the umpire really.

Badenhop hit Hudson on the 1st pitch so he ejected him thinking it was intentional on the other hand Baker got hit by a 1-2 pitch which got away from the Dodger pitcher and no pitcher wants to hit a batter with 2 Strikes so it was obviously unintentional.

honestly I knew this was coming. There was an article on the marlins website where badenhop and several other players imply it was intentional. I don't think MLB would have allowed them to talk about it openly without some sort of suspension.

That's such sh*t. What about Weaver? He should be suspended as well. Honestly, seeing how many pitchers throw at a batter higher than Badenhop did (Weave for one..) just get a warning is crap. Hopper threw at the guy's waist. This rule needs to be changed.

Hey guys, this is my first post on this site so hey to everybody. I was just wondering what exactly is the story mentioned above about Brad Penny?

So will Badenhop appeal the decision or it won't really matter because apparently Hopper is starting a later game?

Miami Herald indicated he wouldn't be appealing.

I believe the story is that in 2005 or 2006 Brad Penny bet our bat boy like $500 that he couldn't drink a gallon of milk. Not sure who won, but I know the bat boy got in trouble.

Don't worry people. We will have Halladay by then. This will be a moot topic.
