July 21, 200917 yr So who's our 5th starter then? We may not need one for a while, from what I've read.

July 21, 200917 yr Whoa. Put Miller23 on suicide watch? j/k It would make more sense if we indeed do not need a 5th starter for a while.
July 21, 200917 yr Hope they bring back WEST! He gave up 3 homers in his last game. 46 inns and 12 home runs in AA! No
July 21, 200917 yr So for now it's J. Johnson R. Nolasco C. Volstad R. VandenHurk ? hmmmm I smell a trade about to happen!!! It's clear we need a 3rd, and a starting pitcher... How does this sound for a trade! "Scott Rolen & Roy Halladay" for "Emilio Bonifacio, Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, and Anibal Sanchez, and a player to be named later." They want to prove to the fans that they are serious about winning? Then make this happen SAMPSON!!! This would give us a top notch defensive 3rd baseman who's a .300 hitter, and would probably be better suited for the NL anyway with his swing, and his style of play! Oh, and we would have the best pitcher in baseball!!! If only for half a year! Who cares! lol I think those two guys would get us over the hump in the NL East... If this front office is serious then those guys I mentioned would be great trade bait! Hang those guys over to the Blue Jays, and see what they say! NONE OF those guys mean a thing to us right now, and would be usefull in a trade to bring in two SUPERSTARS! Anyway if you all think of a better trade let me know lol...

That sounds like a pipe dream. All those players couldn't get us Halladay alone.
July 21, 200917 yr So who's our 5th starter then? We may not need one for a while, from what I've read. We do have off-days coming up. Makes sense then. I hope VandenHurk can give us some good games then.
July 21, 200917 yr Author I'm glad the front office made this decision. Miller has been pitching terribly and he's been agonizing to watch. He clearly needs some work. And, yes, it's been more than two bad starts. It's more like 5-7. From what I see, the Marlins could probably scrape by with a 4-man rotation until the Cubs series. Depending on how Miller does in the minors, I would no be opposed to moving Badenhop back in the rotation for a few starts and bring up another arm to hold down the pen. This demotion was completely necessary and warranted.
July 21, 200917 yr My prediction : AAA : Willie Collazo, Clay Hensley AA : Aaron Thompson, Christhian Martinez, Nic Ungs I think Hensley and Martinez are front-runners. (Martinez listed on the 40-men roster.) If we need a lefty starter, it would be Collazo.
July 21, 200917 yr I'm not saying this demotion wasn't necessary it was just surprising to see it actually happen. Miller has struggled quite a bit as of late and for the team's sake I hope he pulls it together.

"Scott Rolen & Roy Halladay" for "Emilio Bonifacio, Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, and Anibal Sanchez, and a player to be named later." And yet some how these are the guys we are stuck with, and if Maybin is such a big can't miss prospect then why wouldn't the Blue Jays make the deal? I mean they will need a CF in the next year or two, and with Miller, Sanchez you have two guys to take a shot at to be a starter to replace Halladay.... lol wait I can't believe I actually said that. It would be a minor miracle that they would develop into anything close to Roy Halladay! But im wishfull thinking here lol... I think those are enough bodies to entice the Jays I mean they know they will lose Halladay anyway, and who else can offer that many bodies for him, and Rolan? lol yea it's a pipe dream.... But it would be a nice gift to us all!
July 21, 200917 yr Whoa. Put Miller23 on suicide watch? j/k It would make more sense if we indeed do not need a 5th starter for a while. Ugh. I'll be fine. This hurts, but I'm sure he'll be up in the majors again.

Needless to say, it's gonna take more than your list.
July 21, 200917 yr I mean they will need a CF in the next year or two ??? They have two CFers signed to long term contracts (Vernon Wells until 2014, Alex Rios until 2015). By that point Maybin wouldn't even have club control left. Ontop of that they have two other big time OFers in Adam Lind (.928 OPS) and Travis Snider (Ranked 6th best prospect in all of baseball coming into the season). They would have no reason to want Maybin.

Needless to say, it's gonna take more than your list. I don't know if this is true, but there's a rumor going around saying that Minaya rejected a deal where the Mets would get Halladay...the Mets would send Martinez, Parnell, Niese, and a SS prospect (it wasn't really a good deal, at all, for the Blue Jays, imo). Again, I highly doubt it's true...but Jon Heyman was reporting that earlier today.
July 21, 200917 yr Btw, the 5th starter could be/imo, should be, BURKE BADENHOP. It kinda makes some sense too, considering the Marlins entered the night carrying 13 pitchers, instead of the normal 12. Hopper hasn't been given a fair chance to start, imo. This has been the year where he's really progressed...done it as a long reliever. But he also went into Philadelphia and pitched 5 innings allowing 1 ER, and was never given a chance to start after that. Our pen is pretty deep right now, and if we don't have that 5th starter...starters are way more valuable than long relievers. I think The Hopper deserves another start or two to see what he's got.

Yea, I was thinking about Burke Badenhop. He should be a choice, but he's going so well in Long Relief, that you don't want to mess with him.
July 21, 200917 yr Miller keeps reminding me of Hermida.. I dont think Andrew will ever be the player he was suppose to be.
