Congratulations to Beckett on his 100th career win
Uh, people had already heard of him before he got to Boston, when he came up in 1992 he became Pittsburgh's ace, even winning two in the NLCS that year. Also people would know who he is because he throws a pitch that only a handful of players throw and there don't appear to any more of them on the horizon. Also back to original post congrats to Beckett, I'm sure he would have thought he would have 100 wins before this time, but thats just the big Texas talking in him. I don't know what "ace" you're talking about. When he got called up in '92, he only had 13 starts. The next year (his last year in Pittsburgh) he had a 5.61 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP in 20 starts. Some people might have heard of him regardless of where he played because he throws a knuckleball, but he wouldn't have been nearly as famous or popular as he is now.

Prospect Flops
You know what's funny, though? In a couple of years, he'll be 20 years old. How is someone a bust at 20 years old? LOL. He'll be 20 in less than a year. He has a .592 OPS in in 394 career PA. Not exactly a small sample size. I'm not calling him a bust yet, but even if he is only 19 years old, he should be doing better than that.

joe mauer...
I agree. I still don't see why the Marlins don't just go after Pujols, Utley, A-Rod, Mauer, Braun, Sizemore, Manny, Johan, Lincecum, Halladay, Haren, and Greinke. I mean, we would be guaranteed to win, right???

PWG vs Retro Marlins

Likely Available 3B
Aubrey Huff or Adam LaRoche would be perfect. And move Cantu back to third? Yes? I don't know about recently, but Aubrey Huff was a third basemen. Huff can play both first and third, but LaRoche can only play first. We don't necessarily need to trade for a third baseman, just a third baseman or a first baseman, since Cantu can play either position.

Im in if theres a spot left Yeah, I already counted you in. Still need one more to get twelve.

Bruno
Yeah, I agree with jmp. Borat was ten times better than Bruno. It was OK, but was boring at times.

Congratulations to Beckett on his 100th career win
If Beckett someday makes the HOF it's only because he was a Red Sock. The only AL pitchers that have HOF potential are Rivera, Smoltz, and Halladay. Beckett doesnt come anywhere close to any of them. Can't say I agree with this statement. Now, if you were saying "Such and such player only made the All-Star team because he plays for the Yankees", that's understandable since it's the fans who vote for All-Stars. But the people who cast Hall of Fame votes (the writers) are generally fair and practical in their voting. The fans didn't vote for Wakefield, and the only reason he made it was because he plays in Boston. So you think the players, managers, coaches, etc. voted for Wakefield because he plays in Boston? They have no reason to. He got in because he had 10 wins (I'm not saying wins are good measurement of performance, but people in baseball do), and throws a deceptive knuckle ball. Not because he plays in Boston. If Wakefield played in Kansas City for his entire career, no one would have heard of him. His numbers this year aren't even close to all-star worthy, even if some people like to count wins. But, since he plays for the Red Sox, people know the name, so they put him in.

Ok, now we have eleven. We need an even number.

I'll take Howard. I also think Mauer is going to struggle.

All Star Game Lineups
Ok besides too many phillies in the lineup i dont like Hanley leading off i dont think he's right there i think you guys would agree he should be batting fourth instead of Ryan Braun or atleast somewhere in the lineup where he'll bat with runners on base right ? Anyways what you guys think of the lineups? Who else could possibly lead off for the NL? Victorino?

Pena was just named to the all-star team, replacing Dustin Pedroia. He's going to be the 4th AL competitor.

Marlins "Want to Add"
Hermida doesn't go up there looking to hit. He can't play defense, and he doesn't make adjustments. He'd be gone last year if he wasn't so full of "potential". And would you rather have an outfield of cogs, Cody, Hermida or Cogs, Maybin, Ross? All around game i'd take the latter. Right. Handed. Pitchers. Those are the guys we see the 70% of the time. And you know who been hitting them better than anyone but Hanley? Jeremy Hermida. I'm not going to count on Maybin, after his first stint this year, in a playoff run. Carroll can't hit them, Coghlan has been no good against the either. This is not the time to throw Hermida away, unless we trade him with some specs to find someone who can hit righties at least somewhat okay. All of Cogs, Ross, and UGgla have been very good against rightys this year, not to mention it isnt all about offense. Hermida has to be one of the worst rf's ive ever seen. And how do you know Brett Carroll isn;t good against righty's? He's has 32 ab's. Nobody thought he would have the success he has had against lefty's now. Id rather give him/Maybin a shot, not because they will mash righty's, just because they will drastically improve our defense, and do a fine enough job to cover the load. Just goes to show you how awful Hermida is in the field. What are you talking about? None of them have been good against RHP this year.

Marlins "Want to Add"
Phone calls are being made, and the Marlins certainly are looking to improve themselves before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. For now, whether anything gets done is a wait-and-see proposal. "We don't want to take away, we'd like to add," Marlins president of baseball operations Admin Beinfest said. The Marlins feel they are very much in the National League East race, and specifically, they'd like to add relief help. If a closer could be obtained, they'd be interested. "We'd like to improve just like all the other teams looking to improve," Beinfest said. "We recognize, we're heading into the All-Star Break, and we're in the race for the division. So you want to see what's out there to improve yourself the best you can. "There are so many teams in it, that it's tough to make trades. They don't want to take from their team. They want to add to it. In terms of your prospects, you have a threshold on what to give and not to give." Closer Matt Lindstrom is on the disabled list with a right elbow sprain. Beinfest is not optimistic that the right-hander will be back by the July 31 trade deadline. "We'll make due with what we have," Beinfest said of the bullpen. "Those are good arms, and by and large, they've done a good job. We'd like to get Matt back. We hope he's on the mound here in the next week or so, and start that progression." With Lindstrom, Beinfest added: "I don't know. We'll see the progression. We'll have him on the mound, and we'll have a better idea. You can deal with what if? But we'll look at everything, and move on, and hope that he comes back." Recently, the Marlins signed veteran right-hander Luis Ayala to a Minor League contract. Ayala could help the team after the Break, after he gets some work in the Minor Leagues. In terms of possible trades, Beinfest said the landscape changes daily. "We'll see what happens. It changes from day to day," he said. "An injury today, or something happens. Or you have a bad week. You're in. You're out. It always gets dicey when you get to the end of the month." http://joefrisaro.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/07/marlins_want_to_add.html

I'll go with Vanden Hurk. Wouldn't be surprised if Thompson got called up though.
