  1. Seeing how our rotation has turned around, I have no idea what the SP will be next season. Well, we pretty much know it's going to be five of Johnson, Nolasco, Volstad, Sanchez, West, and Miller. My guess is that Nolasco will be the odd man out.
  2. vanderhuk nothing special and should not see another MLB game I stopped reading after that. good you stopped reading there boy because it was about to get uglier I stopped reading because after someone makes a comment like that, you know that they have no idea what they're talking about.
  3. 2009 Boni > Maybin Hardly. And Cameron Maybin has been in 26 games. So don't go around and compare Maybin to Bonifacio. I didn't think this was so hard to comprehend but here goes for the slow crowd. Maybin began the season as our lead-off hitter and starting center fielder. Many if not all were expecting great things from him and he failed miserably. That's why he was demoted and has not been seen since. He might return in September but that won't be nearly enough time to make up for 2009. Bonifacio on the other hand came with no expectations and has contributed all season long. Yes, he suffered through terrible slumps at time but unlike the guy who shoves Minor League umpires, Boni has adjusted and is doing well in his new role. Boni has done WAY more for the 2009 Marlins than Maybin has. It's a fact. Get over it. First, Maybin would have been up by now if there weren't any issues with his contract and service time. And for Bonifacio, a .620 OPS is hardly contributing. Most of our minor league players could do that. In fact, last time I checked, his WAR was -.7, which means he has actually contributed to us losing, not winning.

  5. You don't know baseball. You are assuming this "prospect"turns into a superstar. You are also underrating the talent we would betrading.Bumgarner wont even sniff the major leagues until 2011 or late2010 at the earliest. We would be giving up to much. How can you not see that?.Or why so desperate to trade Uggla?. Yes, that's exactly right, I know nothing about baseball. And going by your history on here, and being someone who can't even seperate the first letter of a sentence from a period, you have proven that you are the expert at baseball. I'll try this one more time. Of course no prospect is a guaranteed superstar, we've had plenty of those types of players (i.e. Miller, Hermida, etc.). You have to treat this kid like he is going to be something special though, going by his minor league history. He's the top rated minor league pitching prospect by basically every ranking system out there, and if you think that we're going to get him with just Uggla, then you're crazy. Now, the Giants don't even need a second baseman, but for the sake of this argument, let's just assume they do. Freddy Sanchez, who isn't that much worse than Uggla, was just traded to the Giants for Tim Alderson (a great pitching prospect, but not near Bumgarner's level.) Most people called that a steal for the Pirates. They would never give up their top prospect (close with Buster Posey), and the best pitching prospect in baseball, for a player slightly better than Sanchez. As I said before, Hermida has minimal value. He's a guy that you would probably throw into a trade just to solidify your offer, but he's not going to be a major piece in any trade. And again, no one specified what type of prospect the third player would be in the trade, but it would have to be one of our top ones to pry away Bumgarner. I'm not deperate to trade Uggla (although I think he will be traded at the end of the season), I'm just saying that your expectations for what we're going to get for him are way too high.
  6. Bill Parcells.
  7. Dan Uggla straight up for Bumgarner would be the trade. You think Loria would consent to trading all those players for one prospect? ha!. No, it wouldn't. You seem to not understand what FishDynasty is saying. Bumgarner is the BEST pitching prospect in all of baseball. He's a lefty, only 20 years old, and hasn't been rushed to the majors like Andrew Miller has. I would do Uggla, Miller, Hermida, Sanabia, and Tucker. And I love Andrew Miller. But that's how good Bumgarner is. Your quite high on a prospect that has never pitched in the major leagues. The Marlins will get owned, if they trade Uggla, Hermida and another high prospect for Bumgarner. It just isn't a compatible trade. You are really overrating this "prospect".You are also really underrating Dan Uggla. No, you're really overrating Dan Uggla. He's a low-800 OPS second baseman with average to below-average defense. If you think we would be able to get Bumgarrner with just Uggla alone then you're crazy. Lol uggla is a 30 90 or 100 guy and 250 or 260 avg avg 2nd baseman . He's having a bad year and he's still gonna hit 30 homers and knock in 80+ rbi's, he's not that bad, especially for a team that needs power. Then you add hermida which to me is gonna be a solid outfielder just needs consistency and a mid lever prospect, for a young prospect with great stuff lol havent i heard that before with andrew miller lol so he's only a prospect same goes with stanton there prospects. Uggla you know what your gonna get. good trade for both and that 5 player trade is just stupid and idiotic! I don't know if you were trying to contradict me about Uggla or not, but he's a low-800 OPS second baseman, who plays average to below average defense. Nothing spectacular. Hermida doesn't have much value, if any at all. He's heading into his second year of arbitration next season, and he's going to be a 26-year-old, below average outfielder. It really depends who the mid-level prospect is, but again, you're going to need to give up one of our top prospects, plus Uggla and Hermida, at least, to get a prospect of Bumgarner's caliber.

It's a lopsided trade that doesn't really make much sense. "Dan Uggla straight up for Bumgarner would be the trade. You think Loria would consent to trading all those players for one prospect? ha!."- Retro_Marlins You were saying?

  10. Uggla and Hermida, plus a B grade single A prospect to the Giants for Madison Bumgarner. They deperately need power hitters and we desperately need a projectable lefty starter who is more than a soft tosser. Sure hope its possible to get something like this done, We got to figure out what we could package with Uggla to get this guy. I'd even toss in Cantu, provide we re-sign NJ. Yes, they would desperately want to give up the best pitching prospect in baseball for a mid-level prospect, an aging second baseman, and a below average outfielder. The Giants would be thrilled at such a heist. The Giant's would clearly get the better end of the trade. Are you kidding me?. I don't think you understand. Bumgarner is the best pitching prospect in baseball. There's less than a 0% chance the Giants would accept that. Hermida's value is going down by the day, and Uggla is going to be 30 next season. It would take those two, plus one of our best prospects to get Bumgarner, easily. Hermida is batting over .300 in August. He's slowly picking it up him batting 8th has also improved his OBP. And SF doesn't care much about age when they were fielding the oldest team a few seasons ago. It would be great to get the TOP pitching prospect. So, because Hermida suddenly has a .770 OPS in August (which is still below average for a right fielder), and the Giants supposedly "don't care about age", they would accept it? Sure, it would be great for US, but that's all it would be good for.

  12. Dunn isn't overrated. He's a DH playing RF. It isn't necessarily a matter of being overrated, but his value is much lower in the NL than in the AL. Since many people seem to disregard defense though, or at least think of offense as much more important than defense, then yes, he is usually overrated by many people.
  13. I know it doesn't work this way because the MVP is usually a popularity contest(among qualified candidates of course) but it is called most valuable player. Is Albert as valuable to the Cards as Hanley is to the Marlins? I say no. He's a beast no doubt, and is worthy of consideration, but Hanley for stretches(especially May-June) has been the only .300 hitter on the Fish and almost all of the offensive threat on this team. If Hanley keeps it up, wins the batting title and the Fish make the playoffs he should win it. Otherwise, Albert should. As for the other awards, Fredi is dependent on making the playoffs, CC has a shot if he continues to tear it up and finishes strong, and JJ I don't see happening, unless a case of the sucks hits Lincecum and the other guys. Pujols- 6.3 WAR Hanley- 5.9 WAR Not the biggest fan of the stat, but it's decent in judging value.

  16. I can't see us winning any of those. I think CC has the best shot if he just keeps his recent explosion up. Totaly agree Rabb! JJ and Hamley will be Honerable mentions not even runner ups. Fredi doesn't even deserve to be mentioned ... You gotta look at the Job La Russa and Torre have done even Bochy dude what you mean not runner ups?do you know what you are talking about. You making it seems like it isnt even close.Freddi automatically gets the CDOTY award if we make the playoffs and JJ is battling now Cain for the 2nd spot.Once he overtakes him the race gets tighter with robotic tim lincicum. In the other side haslem is having as good if not better season than pujol. If he keeps it up and the marlins make the PO,it'll be closer than you think Lincecum, Cain, and Carpenter are all ahead of Johnson in the race right now. At best, he will probably finish 4th, but someone like Cliff Lee could sneak ahead of him if he keeps dominating. Hanley deserves the MVP, but unfortunately I think we all know Pujols is going to get it. Voters probably won't take into consideration that there are many great hitting first basemen in the MLB, and Hanley is by far the best shortstop in the MLB.
  17. ADAM DUNN WAS A FREE AGENT. And the Nationals are paying him $20 million over this season and 2010, which would be nearly a third of our payroll. Besides, he's not even that good. Say what you want about payroll issues, but Adam Dunn has more HR & RBIs so far this year than any Marlin and by a healthy margin, along with an OBP over 400, and all that on one of the worst teams in baseball. And not to mention that he would provide that power from left side whereas all the current Marlin power threats are on the opposite side. If could've been had at the same price and under the same circumstances as Nick Johnson than it would have been a better deal no matter where you play him. Whoever prefers having Jeremy Hermida on your team over Adam Dunn, I just don't even know what to say... Speaking of though, I would like to see the Marlins trade Hermida to Boston for John Smoltz to come in as closer and bring up Maybin to play CF with Cody in RF. But that's just me. Of course no one would prefer having Jeremy Hermida over Adam Dunn if they came at the same price, and no one said that. But that's the thing, they don't. Dunn is also a very overrated player, since many people forget how horrible of a right fielder he is (yes, much worse than Hermida.) Fact is, we would have had to pay Dunn $10 million this year if we wanted him, which, obviously, isn't the type of money our FO likes to spend. By the way, Dunn has Nyjer Morgan, Christian Guzman, and Ryan Zimmerman all hitting in front of him. They're actually an above-average offensive team (at least before they traded away Nick Johnson.)

  19. PPG is a pretty bad way to measure a defense. A team can be stopped at the 35 yard line or stopped at the 3 and have the same scoring result. Sometimes it's skewed, but YPG is probably the best team defensive stat out there. YPG is weak because if you're a team that relies on shutting down the run and ball control, you're going to give up "garbage" passing yards. Who cares if you gave up a field goal that was a 50 yarder or a 30 yarder, you didn't give up a touchdown. Gotta remember, there are a lot of cases of offensive turnovers on the bad side of the field where the defense has to hold up and holding the offense to a field goal is still a victory. But when you're playing prevent defense up by 11 with 1 minute left and the opposing team drops 50 or so yards (while simultaneously eating clock off the board) your YPG suffers from meaningless yardage. Look at the Dolphins YPG splits during their crappy year, they got run on like a pee wee league team, which ultimately skewed their passing defense, making it look better than it actually was, because why would a team that's beating you bother passing anyways? Thereby lowering the PYPG... There's a big difference between a 50 or a 30 yard FG. If a drive starts at mid-field for a team, and they drive for 15 yards to set up around a 50 yard FG, that's much different than if they drive for 45 yards and get multiple first downs, only to settle for around a 20 yard FG. Neither one is great, but I'd go with YPG. Then again, the best way to judge is usually just by watching the games.
  20. All those teams over the Eagles? I could maybe understand the other 3, but why the Vikes? They're not even sure who their QB is, right now. Kinda tough to win without a QB. A) They are a west coast offensive passing team, Tarvaris Jackson had like... a QB rating over 90 the past however many games he played... the trick to a west coast system is giving the QB time to learn it. B) They have one of, if not the best O-line in football, built for running and quick passes/screen passes. C) 3/4 of their Dline are animals... they have a decent LB corps and Sharper and Winfield in the secondary makes them flat out dangerous. Summary: Teams that can run the ball at will and play great defense = Sweet man I totally forgot about the Vikings. LOL, they have the best defense in the NFL (easily the #1 rush defense). If they finally got a passing game going, they would be damn near unstoppable. That team that James Harrison is on has something to say about that. Vikings have the best 4-3 defense in the league... their only competition is the Giants, but the Giants secondary doesn't touch the Vikings. One thing to note, that most people don't, about passing defense. If you're a good team with a good defense and win a lot of games, you're going to give up a lot of garbage "ait it out" yards late in the game that adversely impact that stat. Ultimately, points per game is the best simple metric to use. PPG is a pretty bad way to measure a defense. A team can be stopped at the 35 yard line or stopped at the 3 and have the same scoring result. Sometimes it's skewed, but YPG is probably the best team defensive stat out there.

  22. Mike-Gundy (yes, that's one word)
  23. he's going to be a bust. and what kind of idiotic parents allow their son to drop out of high school. in about 10 years harper will be changing wheels at a local garage shop. Don't know why you think he'll be a bust, but it doesn't even matter. He's going to get $50-60 million when he gets drafted and he'll be set for life.
