Hermida May Not Return This Season
Sorry guys. I thought a .750 OPS was around average. Sorry. Still, like Fish Dynasty said, he's not worthless, and I still think he can turn it around. Well, if Hermida could play second base or shortstop and put up a .750 OPS then he would be very valuable, but for a corner outfielder, he should be putting up a high .700 OPS, maybe even a low .800 OPS. I wouldn't call his defense average either, since he has a career -8.6 UZR/150 in the outfield. Add that to the fact that he isn't a great baserunner, he has a career 25 K%, and he has a combined .4 WAR from 2008-2009, he doesn't have much value. A player who can put up a high .700 OPS against RHP would make a very valuable bench bat, but a below average starter.

Hermida May Not Return This Season
The funny thing is, he's not as bad as you people make him out to be. He isn't even bad. He's an average Right Fielder. No, he's below average, but not worthless like some people make him out to be.

9/13 Post Game
Our hopes are fading slowly. My hopes faded away long ago. We have one good starting pitcher who's starting to tire, and everyone else ranges from "meh" to "blah." Nolasco isn't "meh". He is this year... No, not really.

College Football Thread - 2009 Week 2
I'm speechless after almost losing to Jacksonville State.

What needs to change for next year?
1.6 Lindstrom + 1.6 Nunez = 3.2 million for 2 relievers. The more and more I see that possibility, the less I like it. Nunez' stats are the better looking of the two, and a lot of that has to do with good fortune for him, this year. I'm leaning to only signing 1 of those 2 guys...not both. I would let Nunez and his 1.76 HR/9 go first.

Not that big of a deal, but why is it that when everybody posts their projected 2010 lineup, they want Cody in right and Carroll in left?

9/10 Post Game
It's amazing how bad the Mets are even after spending $145 million on salary. Wow... Not necessarily their fault though.

Why do you keep saying Dan Uggla sucks? Because in my opinion he does. Lots of power, all or nothing, terrible defensively, low BA.....what's to like about him? The fact that he's a top 10 second baseman? Top 10? In what homeruns? All around maybe top 30. Right now (without taking contracts or age into consideration), the only guys I would rather have over Uggla would be Utley, Pedroia, Kinsler, Phillips, and Roberts. That would put Uggla sixth, and some even consider him higher than that. The only other guys who would probably even be considered close would be Polanco, Cano, and Hill. I think you are forgetting that this is a guy who was a five-win player last year.

2009-10 Florida Panthers thread
Panthers will be lucky to finish ahead of the Lightning this year. I would ask why you think this, but then again...................you're not really a hockey fan. Thus, you probably couldn't give a good explanation. Maybe you can. I'll wait for it. because they are awful. they have no scoring, and a terrible d. pretty easy, 0 scoring + 0 defense = bad team, espescially when you have streaky ass ttomas vokoun in goa; A lot of teams wished they had Tomas Vokoun in goal. Again, I'd love to see your statistics to prove why you think Tomas Vokoun is so inconsistent. But considering you're a troll, you'll probably respond with a "dude, when was the last time the Panthers made the playoffs? lolzz. No one cares about hockey..."blah, blah, blah You really expected him to have any stats to back something up?

Alright, here's my rant. First off, where was Patrick Robinson? This guy was supposed to be one of our few guaranteed starters on defense this year, and all he did was commit pass interference, and let Benjamin blow by him for a huge play. Watson played great and so did Bradham, but where was the rest of the defense?? We had a just a little bit of pass rushing, and our pass defense was horrific. If we play like this, I can't see any team putting up less than three touchdowns versus us, even Jacksonville State. And after this game, I'm really losing all faith in Jimbo. I didn't like him all that much last year, but last night was just pathetic. With under two minutes left and on second and two, you have a QB that is hot, you only have one timeout, and you run it?? What the hell was that? That burned a good 20 or 30 seconds off the clock. Not to mention the unbelievably bad clock management at the end of the game. When there are 43 seconds left, you take a timeout. Then you have time to discuss the plays you're going to run and maybe you can even try to run it for a first down, and then still have time to pass it. Instead, we waste 24 seconds and only get a few pass plays, with the game ending on third down. The few positives that I can take away from that game are the amazing plays by Reid, and Ponder also played well. Other than that though, there really isn't that much.

I heard the punks from Thug U decided to celebrate their win last night by robbing some stores and raping some women. yep and randy shannon then had to vacate 14 victories - making his career total in the negative........ but at least they all got some really cool new shoes First, we haven't had to vacate them yet. Second, at least we don't do this- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNypDGoC_8M

Nothing to do with the INT, but Greg Reid is already one of my favorite players.

I can't believe we let a 5th string DE cause a fumble.

FSU 24, UM 21. Thomas rushes for over 100 yards, and Ponder throws for 250+ yards. UM tries to tie it at the last second with a field goal but it's wide right.

9/6 Post Game
There are only a handful of real, shut-down, lights-out closers in MLB at any given time who are consistent and can be expected to sustain that. At the moment, Mariano and Joe Nathan come to mind. Maybe they have a special mentality or mental edge, or maybe they are especially physically gifted - probably some combination thereof. However, nearly all teams do not have one of those guys. The Mets paid a ton of $$$ for K-Rod, and despite an ERA right around 3, he has a WHIP of 1.26 (not impressive), 4.9 BB/9, and a 1.91 K/BB (again, not that impressive). Also, his K/BB has gone down every year since his sick 2006, and by chunks at a time. So, if you don't have one of the select few, then the dropoff seems to be pretty significant. And I think this is where you can plus in a guy who is a pretty good reliever and expect to end up with similar results to the rest of the league, Yankees + Twins + whoever else I forgot notwithstanding. As an aside, I don't think most of the posters above disagree as much as they think they do. I think we all realize that there aren't too many GREAT closers. For whatever reason (this is where there seems to be disagreement), many players in that role will be roughly average. The reality is that most teams end up closer to average than elite. Look at Papelbon's regression this year. Or look at the league leaders in saves. Fuentes has an ERA near 4. Ryan Franklin is a million years old and came out of nowhere - I have no earthly idea if he'll sustain this. Mo and Nathan are awesome IMO. You can do your own analysis if you like, and I think the results will support my conclusions above. Not sure what that was for. He has regressed. No, he hasn't. Papelbon has walked over three times as many people as he did last year, his K/BB has gone from 9.63 to 2.83, he's allowed more home runs in ten less innings, his FIP has increased from 2.01 to 3.25, and he's transformed from a groundball pitcher into a flyball pitcher. His stuff has also taken a hit, with all three of his pitches decreasing in velocity. Yes, he's regressed.

When was the last time...
Not too many times b/c, fortunately, the Marlins front office understands how to spend their money wisely/understands that the role is very overrated. it really isnt. there is a reason why there are so few lights out closers. you have to have a specific type of mindset to be a closer. it is just important and just the same as any other inning, but they are the hardest 3 outs to get. Interesting stat: K-Rod, the guy who is making $12 million this year (over one-third of our entire payroll) has blown as many saves as Nunez this year, and just two less than Nunez and Lindstrom combined. Yes, we definitely need to spend the big bucks on those guys because they have the "mindset" to pitch in the ninth inning.

Marlins sign Tom Berenger
i was talking about minor league players. i dont think there is any need to go that deep with minor league players because i am just looking for those basic things like k/bb and things like i said in my previous post My example wasn't necessarily just for major league players though. It can easily apply for minor leaguers. like i said, i dont feel it is neccessary to go into things that deep. im just loking for the basics of improvement, like not k'ing as much, more bb's, just things that show they are improving. you cant control luck. You can't control luck, but luck can control your stats, which is why you need to look at the in-depth statistics to prove if the stats that a player put up are because of skill or luck. If a player is hitting for a higher avarege and hitting more home runs, that doesn't necessarily mean that he is improving.
