September 13, 200916 yr Chris Volstad needs to do some serious work this offseason. He has been dreadful.
September 13, 200916 yr I'm sorry, but our pitching is not going to take us to the playoffs this year. Maybe if we didn't have that god-awful May.
September 13, 200916 yr Author Our hopes are fading slowly. My hopes faded away long ago. We have one good starting pitcher who's starting to tire, and everyone else ranges from "meh" to "blah."
September 13, 200916 yr Chris Volstad needs to do some serious work this offseason. He has been dreadful. Walked too many guys but he made many great pitches and the defense and umpires really hurt.
September 13, 200916 yr Chris Volstad needs to do some serious work this offseason. He has been dreadful. He's out of gas, they're all out of gas. That's why Fredi is pitching them the absolute minimum he can get away with in hopes somehow they can make it into October. I suspect he hoped some of the minor league guys could come in and give guys a rest but the Suns keep going in the playoffs and their guys keep building up their own innings and anyone worth bringing up from AAA is already here. One of two things will be true next spring. Volstad I believe will bounce back as good or better than ever, or he's pretty much one and done. I find that a stretch. He has too much talent not to roar back in 2010.

September 14, 200916 yr Kinda hard to say we're a playoff team when we lose 2 of 3 to the Nats. That's even with our ace throwing game 1.

He has too much talent not to roar back in 2010. Volstad has been average or a little worse the entire season. All our pitchers, save for JJ, have been inconsistent. Yes, even Ricky, with his April/May, can't ignore that. Ricky was the same way last year, so it will be interesting to see how he pitches around that time next year. It is safe to say that our young pitching is not living up to their hype, and if we going to go into next season hoping for bounce backs for at least 3 spots in our rotation (not including Nolasco or JJ), then we will be in trouble. Above all else, we need another consistent arm. Especially if Ricky struggles out of the gate again.
September 14, 200916 yr We need to do all we can to conserve our offense (namely resign Nick Johnson and maybe think about Uggla) and get a back-of-the-order veteran, a la Brian Moehler.

Every teams pitchers have thrown the same innings. So none of that out of gas crap! Our pitching has been GARBAGE this season! I agree wit the last post. We really need to get all of our hitting back (Uggla, Cantu, Ross and Nick Johnson) and go out and sign 2 starters.
September 14, 200916 yr Phillies just swept the double header. We're done. The Mets got revenge on the Marlins by NOT winning.
September 14, 200916 yr yeah we just lost 1.5 games in one day and back to 6.5 out......unless we gain a like two games by weds were pretty much done. very dissappointing.
September 14, 200916 yr Kinda hard to say we're a playoff team when we lose 2 of 3 to the Nats. That's even with our ace throwing game 1. Only the delusional thought we were a playoff team after our hot start.
September 14, 200916 yr Phillies just swept the double header. We're done. The Mets got revenge on the Marlins by NOT winning. Yeah, that's gonna do it. Also, I would say there's a 99% chance that Uggla is not with this team next season. He's making too much money for the inconsistent production the team gets in return. However, I don't know who would fill such a huge hole in the lineup. We really could have used the Hammer this year with those numbers he put up in Washington, that's for sure. Especially with what we got in return.
September 14, 200916 yr It was good while it lasted, but Friday's game did it for me. Think it was today's game for me. Lose 2 of 3 to the Nats in the last two weeks... Yeah, it was today's game.
September 14, 200916 yr I find it funny to see how well Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz, and Brad Penny are pitching.
September 14, 200916 yr Didn't see much of the game, but it still felt like torture. It was worse being there. Errors, passed balls, wild pitches, total blah performance. Like the entire team was hung over.
