  1. If this team is serious about contending anytime soon were gonna have to go out and spend money on a proven ace or at the least a number 2. JJ cant go a season without tailing off at the end or getting hurt. Hes just not a dependable ace. Itd be nice to get a guy like Marcum from Milwaukee whose a free agent. But we prob need another pitcher too plus maybe another to be sure Volstad isnt in the rotation.
  2. Seems like JJ has been injured every year since his career began. He is a great pitcher don't get me wrong but is becoming like the Chad Pennington of baseball. I would consider trading him... I am probably an idiot for the last statement. Ive been thinking they should consider listening to offers for him. I dont want them to trade him yet, but itd be an option somewhere down the line. relying on him as our ace hasnt worked out. besides he has what, 2 more seasons after this on his current contract? unless this ownership decides to spend money on upgrading some positions and getting a couple pitchers then we are gonna be constantly at the whim of his health which isnt a winning recipe right now.
  3. hitting-wise out scouts and development have done a great job. morrison, gaby, stanton, etc. were all finds. dont also forget guys like adrian gonzalez and miguel cabrera. but pitching-wise, aside from JJ, this ownership group has been pretty bad. i contend its cuz we rush guys up and end up ruining them. but beinfest has really dropped the ball over the last 5-6 years. this organization used to pride itself on having a stock of young arms in the minors. we have nothing down there now. james might be something but hes a long way away. and thats on beinfest. and sure u dont judge the high picks in baseball like u would the NBA or NFL, but we havent had any decent pitchers since JJ came up. that would seem to suggest were busting on everything, Agree here. We have nothing down there, because we left nothing down there. When we had Beckett, Pavano, Penny, Redman, and Willis it was easy to "stockpile." Good point. Thats why u go out and sign or trade for guys like redman who had a track record of being decent starters (not great, but decent) and stop throwing money at the reclamation projects of the world. And that was the folly of not signing competent starters for the last 3 years. we threw a bunch of pitchers to the fire and they all needed work on their game. they ended up getting wrecked and now we r in a bad spot because we need more pitching. now this ownership can go out and spend money on a guy like redman again and overpay for him or continue to be a mediocre team. it also should be noted that of all the guys u named, i think only beckett came all the way through our system. everyone else we got in trades. and now that i think about it, the two best pitchers we have currently in the rotation also spent little to no time in our minor league system. maybe there is a problem down there beyond rushing guys.

  5. I love how you choose to ignore players like Morrison, Stanton, Gaby, and JJ. Well he is choosing to just pick out our inability to draft a pitcher. I think the developmental aspect is where we fail, to be honest. Somebody like Chris Volstad should not suck this much. It seems to me like Chris Volstad sucks because of Chris Volstad. Ever since he got really butchered at the end of 2009, he hasn't seemed confident on the mound anymore. thats because we rushed him up. he never had to go through a rough patch in the minors where hitters were figuring him out and he was adjusting to it. so when it happened, it happened at the major league level and the guys psyche was screwed. sure it may have happened in the minors, but thats why u develop guys down there correctly (like the braves do.)
  6. itd be another cop out to fire edwin. its not his fault. were relying on young, unproven players and washed up veterans to win games. on top of that we r relying on an ace whos never shown he can finish a season, a closer whos been mediocre, no farm system, and a couple of solid pitchers who are 3-4s on any contender. this team is playing like it should if they have a couple bad breaks. and considering its a 162 game season, theres bound to be hiccups along the way. you cant just go into every season thinking everyone will stay healthy and all ur young unproven talent will play at a high level.
  7. Maybe its just me, but hasn't this issue of not cashing in always been the Marlins problem?? Dating back years, this team has always had problems with "clutch" hitting. It's a sign of the Loria/Beinfest method of spending money/acquiring talent: Rely heavily on reclamation projects and inexperienced players to carry the team instead of going out and getting a few proven reliable players who can show these kids what to do and take some pressure off of them We need more professional veterans! Yes! Just not the Marlins version of professional veterans, ie cheap reclamation projects.
  8. Loria is raging. itd be great if he spent some money on proven hitters and pitchers. the old "reclamation" project route hasnt worked very well ie vasquez, robertson, leiter, etc. I don't see how you can blame Loria for Vazquez. If anything, the GM/scouts/coach are at fault for that; Loria spent 7 million. i actually liked the signing. but still they were being cheap because they didnt wanna spend money on a multiyear deal with a pitcher so they took a guy who is old and had a pretty bad year last season. my issue is that we could really use a guy who is in his prime and while might not be cliff lee, we know wont be horrendous.

  10. Itd be really cool to have keyboard cat on the jumbotron and play off javy after hes yanked in the 4th or 5th inning every game.
  11. Javy is the Cody from Step by Step of our rotation.
  12. oh that javy...............:haha
  13. there u go volsuck. i knew u had it in you.
  14. maybe loria will fire the mermaids next
  15. Loria is pretty much Steinbrenner-lite. except when it comes to spending. hes pretty much the opposite there. he has steinbrennar like expectations but isnt willing to shill out the money.
  16. BS move by loria. Hes panicking. He sees the chance to build momentum going into the new stadium is fading. But thats what happens when ur cheap and dont spend money on depth or for some reason think that only improving the bullpen will make this into a playoff contender. The FO put together a flawed team and those flaws r being exposed. Deal with it and spend some money on veteran depth so u dont have to rely on unproven young guys to carry ur offense. Its been the same problem for 8 years yet he still lives in fantasy land that it will work.
  17. Another second round pick on a lefty reliever from the Pac 10? I know these drafts are shots in the dark but I think we need pitchers with starting potential.
  18. Morrison= Mr Choke
  19. they really need to stop running coghlan. nothing good is coming when hes running.
  20. this game would be blown wide open if not for a couple fortuitous bounces going our way. nolasco just cant avoid having 7 or 8 starts a year like this.
  21. ricky doesnt have his best stuff today. hes getting smacked around. we cant squander chances like we did last inning.
  22. horrible. why on earth does this team feel the need to keep starting wes helms. hes just plain awful. Because Dobbs is just as bad against LHP. I'd like to see Ozzie get a start at short and maybe move Bonifacio to third or something. have we sent him down?
  23. horrible. why on earth does this team feel the need to keep starting wes helms. hes just plain awful.
  24. Id sit him tomorrow.
  25. if they hit one of our guys, i expect us to hit one of theirs in kind. problem is they dont have anyone worth hitting.
