Posted June 16, 201113 yr I assume most of you heard. Yeah. I just hope JJ gets better and can come back after the all-star break and kick some ass. Carefully.
June 16, 201113 yr I will once again assail the Marlins medical staff and their continued mistreatment and misdiagnosis of players. For the umpteenth time during Loria's tenure as an owner the Marlins have a player go on the DL for what appears to be a minor injury and then next thing you know they're out for the year. Please do every Marlins fan a favor and get a new medical staff, trainers, etc....
June 16, 201113 yr i kinda figured he would hit the 60 day DL about a week ago when they said he hasn't even started soft toss yet...i'm guessing it will be his rotator cuff or something horrendous
June 16, 201113 yr So have they determined what the actual injury is? Everything I have heard is "shoulder inflammation." Shoulder inflammation doesn't take 60 days to recover from. There is more going on here. It would be wonderful to hear a little more.
June 16, 201113 yr hell with missing JJ's dominance..I just miss watching them win a series I miss watching them have longer win streaks than 1 game.

June 16, 201113 yr I wouldn't care if he took the rest of the year off. I'd actually prefer it. Hell, he might as well take a career off while the Marlins are doing bad... because you know... he's not a catalyst in our rotation that makes us a good team. Seriously, this is ridiculous. JJ is what makes our team. You should never want to see him out unless it was a situation like last season, when we shut him down because all hope was already lost.
June 16, 201113 yr He's not going to single-handedly make this team a contender. This team isn't going to cut it this year. Shoulder injuries can be serious and Johnson is part of the team's future. It's not simply "shutting him down" because he's tired; it's being smart about his health and protecting an investment.
June 16, 201113 yr This team showed that they can play good ball. They need a solid #4 pitcher and for someone to step up and start playing mediocre baseball in the #5 spot at best. And Ricky Nolasco needs to start pitching. Seems like a lot to ask, but of course it's already happened once this season. I see no reason to abandon ship. We're not even half way through the season.
June 16, 201113 yr No, they didn't. They won a bunch of close and 1-run games over an abbreviated part of the season. You are also demanding a whole lot of "ifs." It's smart to be careful with Johnson. There is little to gain by putting him out there in August and September. There is, however, a lot to lose: his entire 2012 due to a labrum tear.
June 16, 201113 yr I'd rather just prepare for next season and try to be smart at the trade deadline. This lineup needs another good bat somewhere and we need at least one more good pitcher to replace Javy next season..

By the time Johnson is making his first start, the Marlins should have already decided to be buyers or sellers.
June 16, 201113 yr I am just concerned that JJ is a bit too injury prone. They shut him down last year, now this, I can't remember the last time he went a full season without missing a few starts. Does anyone know how many starts he's missed since Tommy John surgery? I want so much for him to be able to go a full season without missing time and becoming a true ace. He is an elite pitcher when he is healthy, but if he continues to miss time, how can we rely on him, especially for a complete season where we need him to go out in the dog days and really win, plus in the playoffs? Does he even have the arm strength to do that at this stage in his career? My one wish is to him never to go on the DL again!
June 16, 201113 yr Seems like JJ has been injured every year since his career began. He is a great pitcher don't get me wrong but is becoming like the Chad Pennington of baseball. I would consider trading him... I am probably an idiot for the last statement.
June 16, 201113 yr I'm with the good doctor, I see no need to abandon ship...even if watching us lose games in the ninth is sickening. We'll win again, somehow. Though JJ does seem injury prone, but whatever when he does pitch he does it well.

I would consider trading him... I am probably an idiot for the last statement. Ive been thinking they should consider listening to offers for him. I dont want them to trade him yet, but itd be an option somewhere down the line. relying on him as our ace hasnt worked out. besides he has what, 2 more seasons after this on his current contract? unless this ownership decides to spend money on upgrading some positions and getting a couple pitchers then we are gonna be constantly at the whim of his health which isnt a winning recipe right now.

June 17, 201113 yr I agree with Penguino. We're not going to contend this season, even with JJ pitching. Nolasco is not going to be consistent. This is who he is. Vasquez and Volstad will not start pitching good. Coghlan, Infante, Buck and Dobbs will not start hitting good. This team isn't ready yet. However, I hope Beinfest still takes advantage at the trade deadline and robs some teams like the Astros of talent for next season like Wandy Rodriguez.
