MIAMI -- As a precaution, Marlins ace Josh Johnson will have his right shoulder examined by a physician on Wednesday. The two-time All-Star, who is on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, resumed throwing off the mound on June 17. He has continued tossing in side bullpen sessions every couple of days since.

To make sure there aren't any complications with his shoulder, the 27-year-old right-hander will get another medical opinion from Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.

Johnson is eligible to be reinstated off the 60-day disabled list on July 16, during the Marlins series with the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The team has been hopeful the 6-foot-7 right-hander will be ready by that series.

Johnson has dealt with some shoulder tightness since Spring Training, but it didn't give him significant discomfort until his start on May 16 against the Mets at Citi Field. In that game, Johnson's velocity, which typically is in the 95-96 mph range, dipped to 90-91.

Johnson was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 21, retroactive to May 17. On June 15, the 27-year-old was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. He recently had an ultrasound taken on his right knee.

Before going on the disabled list, Johnson made nine starts and the right-hander is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA.

Cheer for Victory!

Err I mean...

... this isn't necessarily bad, honestly. He's just getting an opinion to make sure there won't be any more setbacks. There hasn't been reports of any pain or anything, so no big deal.

If we hear tomorrow that he needs TJ again then ...

f*** the Mets.

I'm also nervous. It's almost never a good sign when a pitcher needs to see Andrews. I've also been concerned with JJ's timetable being pushed back repeatedly since he went on the DL. Now he's not expected to make his return on July 16th, either. I'm assuming the worst at this point.

If the problem is that he doesn't feel 100 percent, why the heck doesn't he go out there and pitch anyway. I know all of you are thinking, we don't wanna see JJ ruin his career, but pitchers these days don't have careers anymore. The moment they feel anything they are shut down for a month. Then if they don't feel perfect they are shut down for another. It's all in the name of not having then get injured further, or ruin them, but why does it matter when all the precautions are pretty much having the same effect as the actual serious injuries would?

This is an epically bad post.

Seriously! The Marlins team doctors need to be shot if he's seriously injured. I've said it at least a dozen times the Marlins have to have the worst medical staff in the Majors. Too many players are injured far worse than the team doctors believe them to be and then miss significant time due to a "minor" injury. Two weeks anybody remember that?!!?

I don't like to be a conspiracy theorist, but we have indeed had a few situations like this recently. Whether that's typical, due to other factors, or due to incompetence I cannot say. But you have to wonder a little bit.
