4/22 Colorado Rockies or whatever @ Florida Marlins
Umps had a tough strike zone, no doubt. Thats why both pitchers counts are up there. anibal has to adjust and not try and nibble. kind of like he did right there as i typed this.

4/19 Post Game
Id like to know more about why he was pulled after 98 pitches too. JJ is our ace and should be capable to go another inning. And JJ has been great and I expect him to keep this up. But the question with him is gonna be whether or not he can manage to not tail off come August. Part of it is because he throws so hard and really uses exclusively two pitches. Supposedly hes developed a curve? I think that could be great and he will finally manage to get over that late season hump. You know, you're kinda answering the question you made in your first paragraph in your second. Yeah, so wouldnt you want to get him in the habit of throwing more pitches? He, like almost all our starting pitchers, always seems to be on a strict pitch count. This doesnt condition them well for late in the season when we need them in games longer. I just dont see the harm in having him go out for the eighth and if he gives up a runner, just yank him. if he gets a couple of easy outs then thats better.

I know he probably wont keep it up, but Ive been pretty happy with his play so far. He might have a halfway decent bounce back season after that disaster he put up last year.

Uggla traded to Braves
Well I dont care that we traded Uggla. The money he was asking for was a complete joke. 4 years 48 was too much. That being said this was a horrible trade. We needed a starting pitcher or at least a positional player. We added Infante whos a career 714 OPS guy and a lefty who got demoted last year. This is just another salary dump. Dont kid urself we wont be signing anyone. Next year were heading towards a 75 win season unless they add another pitcher which I know they wont do.

Some Movement For Marlins, Uggla
I'm just wondering when it'll be time to change the phrase to "And his name is... Mike Stanton!!". The Marlins have gone beyond what we'd expect (I would assume) to get Uggla..4 years $48mill..it was definitely nice to see the Marlins offer that and I would definitely be sad to see Uggla go, but who knows, maybe he is upset with the Marlins because of the Cody situation. Whatever..I just hope if Uggla doesn't return as a Marlin, we get something worthwhile for him... i really do think this has a lot to do with cody. i really cant see uggla playing for someone else. I hope we dont give him that deal or well be paying for it down the line. Hes not worth that much to us. Let him get that money somewhere else. Im kind of pissed we even offered it to him.

Some Movement For Marlins, Uggla
If he turned that down, the Marlins just avoided a bullet. While we might not be able to replace is power and production immediately, we can afford to not be spending 12 million a year on Uggla. hes great and hes improved but hes gonna be 31 next year and that money is better spent on pitching or shoring up something else. Im fine with Stanton, Gaby and Logan making up for Uggla's lost production. Trade him for pitching and/or prospects. The Marlins run a low budget operation and cant afford to be paying Uggla that much along with Hanley and JJ. We have other needs and even though we might miss Uggla in the short term, its better not to have that contract on the books. For one time, I wont fault the Marlins for being cheap. They actually chose a bad opportunity to not be cheap, but Uggla saved it by rejecting it.

Progress With Ricky's Extension
Probably in SF for 3 years and fifteen million. And big crowds. Who has the marlins FO overpaid recently? Wes Helms.

Fredi Gonzalez to manage Atlanta Braves
He'll fit right in Atlanta. Boring and corporate. Plus the city's motto is "Just good enough to lose in the first or second round of the playoffs," so he can contribute to the slow torture of the Atlanta sports fan for never winning anything. (Eclipsed only by the suffering inflicted by Cleveland's inept franchises)

Cody Ross
Ud think the phillies would know how to pitch him

2010 Postseason thread
Classic baseball there. Ump blows the call (though that's probably the most misunderstood call in baseball, it was closer than most people would believe) and pow, ball goes far. Well, unless if a really good pitcher is on the mound. For example, Mariano Rivera>>>James Shields. (umps missed a big call last night in the 9th inning of the Yankees game) Anyway, I'm sure this game probably is the end of the James Shields era in TB. Id love Shields for the Marlins but i thought it was stupid to start him over garza. shields has been horrible the last month and this game was a must win for them. go with the better guy. i guess this will be it for tampas run for the time being if/when they get bounced. dont think they will have the horses to compete with boston or new york after this season but they did make a nice run of it. id feel more sympathy for their fans even if i could ever figure why tampa fans seem to hold a grudge on SoFla teams. and whats the status of them and a new stadium? if i remember correctly they were supposed to get funding from the state legislature awhile back.

Carroll, Tankersley, Wood, Luna, Rivera outrighted to AAA
How much longer do we have to have Tankersley? Hes been here forever and hes sucked so why hasnt he left yet?

Sum Up the Season (Memorable Moments, ect)
The Marlins announcing the signing of Wes Helms for next year. In seriousness, the continued purge of the idiot at-bat crew (Ross and Cantu, and Ugglas recent increase in plate discipline) along with the callup of Morrison and Stanton are what stands out the most. Next year its gonna be starting pitching, with an emphasis on seeing if JJ can finish the year strong, something he hasnt dont at all in his career.

Fish of the Year
Uggla and to be fair its not very close. Im not even a big Uggla fan but the guy hit 287, 33 homers, 105 RBIs, 100 Runs scored and did it ALL YEAR. I also think Morrison and Stanton played very well and hopefully people will realize that dumping ross and cantu was probably a good thing. JJ had a great 2/3 of the year then started pitching poorly and eventually missed the rest of the year cause of injury. Im skeptical of JJ because its become a trend with him of not throwing well or at all during the last third of the year. If we are gonna make a run hes gonna need to be our horse and we need him especially down the stretch. His career stats have been pretty mediocre after August 1st which if uve noticed the last few years is generally the time we begin to fade. Its no coincidence that hes tended to fade during that stretch either. Injuries or not he needs to improve and sustain it the whole year. (Personally I think its cuz he throws too many pitches and really needs his changeup to come along so he can stop throwing 25 pitch innings trying to blaze it by someone.)

Admin Beinfest: "Let's face it, Dominguez is coming"
Well Morrison isnt as important as Stanton, but wed need to some incredible deal to trade him. Morrison isnt untouchable, but hes pretty close to it. I for one was pretty worn out from the Ross, Young Uggla, Jacobs, Helms and Cantu era of not thinking in the batters box and swinging away. Morrison is the most intelligent hitter on the team and he gets on base A TON. We need guys like him and Coghlan in the lineup. Gaby to me is similar to a guy like Cantu and tends to be very aggressive up there. Not that I dont like that but given hes a liability defensively and older Id rather see him go. We arent gonna trade Morrison or Stanton. And i think itd be kind of foolish to get rid of coghlan. That means if anything Gaby is the odd man out. Unless ur looking for a lineup perspective in which case we need Gaby's RBIs. But even still, its too early to call up Dominguez. He might be ready soon, but as good as he may be at 3rd it doesnt take away from Uggla's struggling at second (which in my mind is our biggest defensive problem.)

Rays owner to reduce payroll significantly next year
If the Rays didnt play the Yankees and Red Sox 18 times a year at home, their attendance would be right where ours is. I never thought Id say this, but theres a actually a city with a worse baseball fanbase than miami and not suprisingly its another florida city. Miami has a terrible fanbase but people down here do get on the bandwagon. Well, we do have the Mets, though the attendance for them has fallen the last two years since they've been bad. Eh the Mets arent even close to the draw the Yankees or the Red Sox are. We do get the Cubs though for one series a year.

Beinfest: Acquiring left-handers is priority
Theres a few solid guys on that list we could def go after. The problem is we wont go after them because our FO is cheap. Well end up with Nate Robertson again or something like that. Maybe we could sign Moyer so we dont have to face him. Bedard, Lilly and De La Rosa are all guys to consider but who am I kidding? We arent going after any of those guys. Well just throw a bunch of crap at the wall next season and hope everything breaks our way in the rotation (ie JJ can actually throw well at the end of the year, Anibal wont get hurt and will duplicate this years performance, Sanabia isnt Vargas, and Volstad can keep his ERA away from 5.) One GOOD starting lefty could make this team viable NEXT YEAR, but I dont see us making the move.
