June 10, 201115 yr Could Edwin's job be on the line? I know we have injuries but will the owner blame him not getting team ready to play?. We are now on a 8 game losing streak, how much longer before he is fired or sent back to jacksonville????
June 10, 201115 yr Author What is a new manager gonna do, cast a magic hitting voodoo spell on them? you know how our owner is he wont stay with edwin if we lose 12 game in row or more
June 10, 201115 yr Despite Loria giving Edwin a reprieve for now, I guarantee that his job will be on the line if this continues.

We are now on a 8 game losing streak, how much longer before he is fired or sent back to jacksonville???? Yes, It could be on the line, I'm glad you posted this because if it wasn't you it was going to be me. I love Edwin, but if the losing continues he's gone, unfortunately thats baseball. Depends how long the losing streak continues, if we are able to get back into playoff contention, if we have another slide, but all that being said if you don't win you don't stay. The joy baseball has brought me died somewhere in the Brewers series I think it was the 4th game after I went to (2nd and 3rd game), everything is numb right now.
June 10, 201115 yr He's been moving players around in the lineup left and right to try to get the bats going. What else can he do? A month ago he was a genius, one of the better up and coming coaches in the league. Now he's about to get fired? That would be an even bigger mistake than giving Gonzalez the hook.
June 10, 201115 yr Firing Gonzalez was, by no stretch of the word, a mistake You could not be more wrong. Fredi Gonzalez is awful. Edwin is OK, but he was managing in AAA for a reason I guess.

June 10, 201115 yr It would be one thing if Loria went out before the season and bought some impact players to boost the line-up (not referring to pitching like the bullpen or Vazquez - all the experts said we overpaid for Buck and would regret it) and help Edwin manage this team to victory. Loria needs to open his fat wallet before he says Edwin is no good.... Edwin>>>>>>>>> Freddi... In Edwin I still trust... Loria, not so much

Yea, I agree with this. Firing Fredi was not a mistake. He isn't a very good manager. I'll take some one Bobby Cox vouched for over Edwin any day. Edit... That being said, I've always thought managers take too much credit when their team is winning and too much of the blame when they are losing.
June 10, 201115 yr Lack of depth is a hard thing to overcome and that is the Front Office's / Ownership's fault. Edwin is being expected to win with bench players in the lineup and AAA players on the bench.
June 10, 201115 yr No one seemed to mind the AAA lineup when they were winning. We don't have a AAA lineup. We just have a slumping Major League lineup.
June 10, 201115 yr No one seemed to mind the AAA lineup when they were winning. What does this even mean? And people definitely still complained about having guys like Helms on the bench even when we were winning.

And people definitely still complained about having guys like Helms on the bench even when we were winning. Now, now you boys stop fighting. You sound like my two, always chirping at each other. Cmon we are all Marlins fans. Things are not that bad, we still have a winning record. And soon we are going to win 8 in a row
June 10, 201115 yr No one seemed to mind the AAA lineup when they were winning. Where did I say AAA lineup? I seem to recall talking about the bench as starters and AAA guys as the bench. Get Hanley back, sent Ozzie back to NO and Emilio's versatility can help hide some of the deficiencies of the bench. Then we only have to suffer through Wes vs. LHP.
June 10, 201115 yr Firing Gonzalez was, by no stretch of the word, a mistake You could not be more wrong. Fredi Gonzalez is awful. Edwin is OK, but he was managing in AAA for a reason I guess. What kind of logic is that? Fredi used to manage AA, so by that account, he's worse. Everyone starts somewhere and it serves no indication if how you'll do in the Majors.
June 10, 201115 yr Lack of depth is a hard thing to overcome and that is the Front Office's / Ownership's fault. Edwin is being expected to win with bench players in the lineup and AAA players on the bench. I think this is correct. I think that the front office also overestimated the talent of Coghlan, Infante, and Buck, and this isn't just speaking in hindsight.

Coghlan might just be a slow starter type which afflicts a lot of young guys and the primary reason to get Buck I think is being realized by the stability of the pitching staff. I've noticed him basically take Volstad by the ear.
June 10, 201115 yr The main contributors in the line up are still very inexperienced and young players. The problem is that the veterans they chose to surround the young players are not very good. Also, yeah, the bench is terrible.
June 10, 201115 yr The front office traded our second best hitter for relievers, spent the money saved to sign two guys who haven't come close to pulling their weight in FA, and decided to cast their lot at third base with a guy who had never even done that well in the low minors as of yet, and yet this is the fault of the manager? I know that's not the OP's claim, and it may very well be true unfortunately that Edwin's job is in trouble, but this FO only sets this team up for mediocrity every year.
June 10, 201115 yr I would have given Uggla the 5th year and then traded him after year 4 or during year 3 if the team is out of it.
