  1. All of the Hermida fans....where are they now? Hermida will end up as a #4 major league OFer. except, if anything, this would show the exact opposite since another team is willing to trade for him and see what he can do. Hermida is an excellent buy low candidate for any team right now with Maybin doing well in AAA and our patience obviously growing thin with him. Since the start of June he's back to his excellent BB/K after a poor may (0.75 since june 1, 0.62 on the season), he's stuck out just 16% of the time since June 1, showing that he's still seeing the ball fine. So he's either just not squaring the ball up or he's getting "unlucky." I don't know where to find montly splits on ld rate but he still has a good LD rate on the season (19%) so seems he's still squaring the ball up. And I don't really remember myself if he's been hitting the ball hard enough or not. You hate to use the word "unlucky" but I don't know what other word to use. His lack of power is still very concerning though. Dude are you serious? He hit .227 in June. That's horrible.
  2. All of the Hermida fans....where are they now? Hermida will end up as a #4 major league OFer. right here. He's still got an .800 ops against rhp. He's still valuable tothis team in a platoon role. He's also 25. Futhermore, the Marlins don't pay people 1.5 million to be in a platoon role with AVERAGE numbers at best. We have enough talent in the minors to find someone to put up his numbers.

He's still valuable tothis team in a platoon role. He's also 25. Sorry, I'm not buying it. People used to say he's ONLY 23. Now, he's 25. He's not good at defense and can't drive in runs for a corner OFer. Fantasic, he walks alot. It doesn't make up for his massive amount of K's or his inability to drive in runs. I think scouts know a little more than some of these Hermida lovers which is why he's only worth a middle reliever.
  4. I agree. This is another good signing. The FO is taking it's shots with Ayala and Donnelly. They are standing pat. This is smart to see where we stand come the trade deadline. If we are in it then, I see a pretty major trade occuring. We need more consistency from our starting pitching though. JJ is starting to "try" to hard at his last two starts and needs to settle down a little. If Ricky and JJ are "normal" with Volstad giving some ounce of consistency, they will make a fairly major trade. We know that we'd have a great one two punch for the playoffs. SP is not the problem. We need a bat. I agree 100%. We need another solid hitter/contact/power/run producer. Our SP should match up with anyone's in a series- I'm not concerned about that.
  5. I'm not sure why some were worried about JJ. He's almost as much of a no-brainer as Hanley was, really. Because sometimes the AS selections seem to be done with no brain. for sure. sometimes players get in with popularity instead of performance....cough...cough..varitek last season. Varitek is the most overrated player in baseball...easily. Hasn't he caught a few no hitters? In fact, I believe Varitek brings as much clubhouse and in game leadership to a team than anyone else in baseball. So I don't think he's over-rated at all, especially at the catcher position.

  7. That's a blow. We need to win 2 of 3 vs. Pittsburgh at home.
  8. Helen Thomas: Not Even Nixon Tried to Control the Media Like Obama Wednesday, July 01, 2009 By Penny Starr and Fred Lucas President Obama is introduced before taking questions during a discussion on health care, July 1, 2009, at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale , Va. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)(CNSNews.com) - Following a testy exchange during Wednesday’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press. “Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try. “What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.” Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran. “When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,” Thomas said. “I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well--for the town halls, for the press conferences,” she said. “It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.” During today’s briefing, Thomas interrupted a back-and-forth between Gibbs and Chip Reid, the White House correspondent for CBS News, when Reid was questioning Gibbs about who was going to decide what questions would be asked of President Obama in a townhall meeting that was scheduled to take place in Annandale, Va., today. Gibbs then had an exchange involving Reid and Thomas that went as follows: Gibbs: “? But, again, let's--How about we do this? I promise we will interrupt the AP's tradition of asking the first question. I will let you [Chip Reid] ask me a question tomorrow as to whether you thought the questions at the town hall meeting that the President conducted in Annandale—“ Chip Reid: “I'm perfectly happy to—” Helen Thomas: “That's not his point. The point is the control--” Reid: “Exactly.” Thomas: “We have never had that in the White House. And we have had some, but not-- This White House.” Gibbs: “Yes, I was going to say, I'll let you amend her question.” Thomas: “I'm amazed. I'm amazed at you people who call for openness and transparency and—” Gibbs: “Helen, you haven't even heard the questions.” Reid: “It doesn't matter. It's the process.” Thomas: “You have left open—” Reid: “Even if there's a tough question, it's a question coming from somebody who was invited or was screened, or the question was screened.” Thomas: “It's shocking. It's really shocking.” Gibbs: “Chip, let's have this discussion at the conclusion of the town hall meeting. How about that?” Reid: “Okay.” Gibbs: “I think—“ Thomas: “No, no, no, we're having it now--” Gibbs: “Well, I'd be happy to have it now.” Thomas: “It's a pattern.” Gibbs: “Which question did you object to at the town hall meeting, Helen?” Thomas: “It's a pattern. It isn't the question—” Gibbs: “What's a pattern?” Thomas: “It's a pattern of controlling the press.” Gibbs: “How so? Is there any evidence currently going on that I'm controlling the press--poorly, I might add.” Thomas: “Your formal engagements are pre-packaged.” Gibbs: “How so?” Reid: “Well, and controlling the public—” Thomas: “How so? By calling reporters the night before to tell them they're going to be called on. That is shocking.” Gibbs: “We had this discussion ad nauseam and—” Thomas: “Of course you would, because you don't have any answers.” Gibbs: “Well, because I didn't know you were going to ask a question, Helen. Go ahead.” Thomas: “Well, you should have.” Reporter: Thank you for your support. Gibbs: “That's good. Have you e-mailed your question today?” Thomas: “I don't have to e-mail it. I can tell you right now what I want to ask.” Gibbs: “I don't doubt that at all, Helen. I don't doubt that at all.” Thomas, 89, has covered the White House during every presidency since John F. Kennedy’s. This is a reason to be frightened- especially the last sentence.
  9. Buzz Aldrin calls for manned flight to Mars to overcome global problems The NASA astronaut Buzz Adrin has called for the world to press on with establishing a human settlement on Mars to offer the younger generation much-needed objectives. By Richard Alleyne, Science Correspondent Published: 4:35PM BST 03 Jul 2009 The second person to walk on the moon said that setting up habitation on the surface of the red planet was a "wonderful objective" for humanity. Given the backdrop of the ailing world economy, space exploration could offer younger generations much-needed goals, the 79-year-old said. "America helped to take the world to the moon 40 years ago and America certainly can help lead the world in the direction of Mars." After he entered the history books Dr Aldrin said he struggled through a dark time during which he did not know what he should be doing with his life. He battled depression and alcoholism, but has now been sober for 30 years and married to his wife Lois for 23 years. The former astronaut said he was aware he had a unique perspective on the universe and had tried to share this with others. "Not that many people have been on the moon and that's why I have written two children's books and I am involved in modern communication with a website and Twitter," he said. "I try and communicate with people - recently I got together with a few experts and did a rap session that you can download." But while trying to spread the word about the possibilities of space, Dr Aldrin said he was sceptical of climate change theories. "I think the climate has been changing for billions of years," he said. "If it's warming now, it may cool off later. I'm not in favour of just taking short-term isolated situations and depleting our resources to keep our climate just the way it is today. "I'm not necessarily of the school that we are causing it all, I think the world is causing it." Dr Aldrin was in London to promote the publication of his memoirs Magnificent Desolation - a title taken from his comment when setting foot on the moon: "Beautiful, beautiful. Magnificent desolation." The world watched the astronaut and his mission commander Neil Armstrong become the first humans to walk on the moon on July 20, 1960, as part of the Apollo 11 mission. Buzz Aldrin is ten times more intelligent than Obama and Gore- check out his background. Funny how all of these experts and scientists don't even believe in Global Warming yet we are spending BILLIONS on it. It would be nice to get more balance from the U.S. media instead of just PRO-Global Warming BS 24-7. His background- Buzz Aldrin was born in Montclair, New Jersey on January 20, 1930. His mother, Marion Moon, was the daughter of an Army Chaplain. His father, Edwin Eugene Aldrin, was a Colonel in the Air Force, a ScD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an aviation pioneer. Buzz was educated at the US Military Academy at West Point, graduating third in his class with a BS in mechanical engineering. He then joined the Air Force where he flew F86 Sabre Jets in 66 combat missions in Korea, shot down two MIG-15's, and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. After a tour of duty in Germany flying F100's, he went on to earn his Doctorate of Science in Astronautics at MIT and wrote his thesis on Manned Orbital Rendezvous. Selected by NASA in 1963 into the third group of astronauts, Aldrin was the first with a doctorate and became known as "Dr. Rendezvous." The docking and rendezvous techniques he devised for spacecraft in Earth and lunar orbit became critical to the success of the Gemini and Apollo programs, and are still used today. He also pioneered underwater training techniques, as a substitute for zero gravity flights, to simulate spacewalking. In 1966 on the Gemini 12 orbital mission, Buzz performed the world's first successful spacewalk, overcoming prior difficulties experienced by Americans and Russians during extra-vehicular activity (EVA), and setting a new EVA record of 5 ½ hours. On July 20, 1969, Buzz and Neil Armstrong made their historic Apollo 11 moonwalk, becoming the first two humans to set foot on another world. They spent 21 hours on the lunar surface and returned with 46 pounds of moon rocks. An estimated 600 million people - the world's largest television audience in history - witnessed this unprecedented heroic endeavor. Upon returning from the moon, Buzz was decorated with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest American peacetime award. A 45-day international goodwill tour followed, where he received numerous distinguished awards and medals from 23 other countries. Named after Buzz are Asteroid "6470 Aldrin" and the "Aldrin Crater" on the moon. Buzz and his Apollo 11 crew have four "stars" on each corner of Hollywood and Vine streets on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame. Since retiring from NASA and the Air Force, Col. Aldrin has remained at the forefront of efforts to ensure America's continued leadership in human space exploration. He devised a master plan for missions to Mars known as the "Aldrin Mars Cycler" - a spacecraft system with perpetual cycling orbits between Earth and Mars. Dr. Aldrin has received three US patents for his schematics of a modular space station, Starbooster reusable rockets, and multi-crew modules for space flight. He founded Starcraft Boosters, Inc., a rocket design company, and the ShareSpace Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to advancing space education, exploration and affordable space flight experiences for all. Buzz also promotes his Rocket Hero brand launched in 2008 through his newest entity, StarBuzz LLC. Dr. Aldrin has penned his dramatic memoirs in a new autobiography due out in 2009. He continues to inspire today's youth with his illustrated children's books: Reaching for the Moon, a New York Times best-seller, and his latest, Look to the Stars, a 2009 release. He has also authored two space science-fact-fiction novels: The Return and Encounter with Tiber. His non-fiction works include the best-seller historical documentary, Men from Earth, and an early 1970's autobiography, Return to Earth. On Valentine's Day 1988, Buzz married Lois Driggs of Phoenix, Arizona. She is a Stanford University graduate, an active community leader in Southern California and Co-Chairman of StarBuzz Enterprises. Their combined family includes six adult children from previous marriages and one grandson. Sharing a similar passion for adventure, their worldwide business travels include leisure time ocean scuba diving and winter mountain skiing. As one of the leading space exploration advocates, Buzz continues to chart a course for future space travel from Planet Earth to the moon and on to the stars. What's Obama's background?
  10. FACT: The government is going to spend $60 million over four years to hire hackers to secure their networks. FACT: The government spent $100 million repairing their network in the past 5 months. what is wrong with that? they are trying to save money! It's pretty ironic that you are calling everyone in this thread a sheep. Don't use logic with him, he think Obama is going to bring back slavery. Seriously. Absolutely that is what is going to happen...not the traditional slavery you are thinking. It's a taxation and government fascism slavery in which people will become so poor and jobless, they must depend upon the government. It's coming.... Yeah, ''a new global order'' is coming, thats right. I belive in it,I had a friend who worked for the CIA who told us about all of this in the 1990s, smart card, the chip,he told us some other things id rather not say, its all in the past now, iv taken it all in, but why are you scared of a new world order? answer that without being rude and keep your insight mature. I'm not scared. I will fight back for freedom like many others across the US (hence Tea Parties). The government will never chip me and play a God role in my life. I'm not a weakminded person who is going to be controlled over the false terms of terrorism or the economy (created by the Fed anyway) is so bad we must live off the government. My answer is not rude. It is mature like yours. It's called a discussion. What else did your "friend" tell you? Why are you scared to share your insight? You don't mind being chipped and controlled by satellites?
  11. Please Please Please trade that #4 OFer Hermida for a legit bullpen guy and NOT cody ross

  13. People always thought I was crazy but I tried telling you guys CATCHER is our problem more than 3rd base. Baker is not a great hitter like you guys think and he can't throw ANYONE out. Baker is a solid backup but we need a starter. Boner is what he is. A .260 minors hitter and a .250 pro hitter with 17 steals. I'd like to see a Sanchez/Boner platoon at least.
  14. Hermida's trade value is not high. He is not very good at offense or defense despite what his little fan club says. In 2 years he will end up a #4 outfielder in the pros on the bench like I've been saying. You can't play corner OF and slug .350.
  15. I don't know if Pujols used PED or not but he's not using them now and look how he's doing. The guy is amazing. Hanley is the 2nd best player in baseball right now. Hopefully, he stays hot and leads us to the playoffs.
  16. Why are people saying we need Dunn or Mark Reynolds. No way! We need real pro hitters like Coghlan.
  17. Orlando, with a healthy Jameer should be favorites. People forget that Howard is continuing to get better and Carter is better than Turkoglu, especially at defense.
  18. Not a huge fan of Shaq and his ego but he loves to have fun. This is hilarious..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ylarBerl78&feature=popular
  19. I like Carroll better than Hermida.
  20. Exactly El Penguino...but the government is NOT reducing it's role in anything. They are expanding very fast.
  21. Don't know if it's true or not but surprised to see Alfonseca and Livan Hernandez on there.
  22. When do you think his approval rating with drop drastically? Before he takes over health care or the internet? oh, I see, so lets just let the private Heathcare campanies get their way, then no one can afford heathcare, so people without heath insurance go to the hospital and the cost gets passed onto the person who wants to pay for heath insurance, it becomes so out of reach that we have a situation where at some time most will not have heath insurance, and I bet you dont care untill your in a situation where you need it, you have no idea. Im for the public heathcare option, if private care is so good, then the private comapnies dont have anything to worry about. There is no reason why the Gov cant provide Cheap insurance, I live in Britain at the moment where it is Free, I needed some treatment that would have cost me about 5,000 USD, I was in and out the door in no time, the Hospitals are clean and New, and I pay just the same amount of taxes, so there is no excuse why the AMERICAN Gov cant do the same. Source- Born in America, living in UK, Iv seen both sides. 100% disagree with larger government as did our founders. And you're wrong about the longer lines (source LA Times): 1. British Long-waiting times * Presently as many as three quarters of a million Britons are waiting to be treated in Britain's hospitals. Cancer patients will wait as long as eight months for treatment. During that waiting period 20% of colon cancer patients who were initially considered "treatable" when first diagnosed will become "incurable." Even more alarming is the fact that as many as 40% of cancer patients are never even seen by an oncology specialist. * In 2008 Britain's goal was for a wait time of no more than eighteen weeks; the study showed that only 30-50% of patients actually received treatment within the eighteen week time frame. What's worse is that only 20% of orthopedic and trauma patients received care from a specialist within the eighteen week target window. And as for most Britons, you are in the minority: Studies conducted on the British public indicated that 63% felt the need for healthcare reform is "urgent," and another 24% believe that it is at least "desirable." Even more telling however is that 60% of Britons believe that making it easier for patients to spend their own money on health care would "improve quality." Faced with long waiting lists and lotteries for treatment, patients increasingly pay extra to upgrade the treatment they receive, said Doctors for Reform, which represents 1,000 British physicians. (source United Press International)
  23. Just curious... is that figure adjusted for inflation? Hell, I outspend Thomas Jefferson when I buy a pack of smokes if you don't adjust it for inflation. Yes, that figure is adjusted for inflation. Obama spends over $50,000 per 30 seconds- fact. It's ridiculous. Keep printing!
  24. It's not that he's untouchable. There is just absolutely NO reason to trade him. If anything, his value has decreased already so you keep him and hope he lives up to what he's capable of. I still envision Morrison, Stanton, Maybin, Coghlan, and Sanchez in the same lineup soon.
