March 25, 200422 yr Left-hander Darren Oliver gave up just a run in six innings Thursday, striking out seven I have been very impressed with his performance this spring. If he can continue this into the regular season he may very well be the best move we made this off-season. Especially the way Dtrain has looked, I really hope the youngster can get it together for the regular season but when AJ comes back if Oliver is having the better year then I am all for keeping Oliver in the rotation and sending Willis to the Pen. Only problem is our lefty situation, loosing either Oliver or Willis when Burnett comes back means we have just 1 lefty starter. Anyhow i'd liek to hear what you guys think of this siutation.

HUH ??Before today's game. Dtrain has 4 earned runs and 12 SOin 11 innings .. Oliver had 8 earned runs annd 8 SO in 15 innings..
March 25, 200422 yr It's still nice to have a guy for the whole year and let a guy like Willis skip a start if he's having troubles like he did after the break last year. They've both looked good in ST though. What a nice problem to have
March 25, 200422 yr This is a great situation to be in, we have 6 guys who are all capable of being starters, so one of them will end up being a huge asset out of the pen.
March 25, 200422 yr jack would use a 4 man rotation 100 years before he uses a 6 man rotation. :thumbup
March 26, 200422 yr our staff is just nasty. just think aj soon to come (all star b.) wow.......... :mischief2
March 26, 200422 yr I would like it better if Jack used a six man rotation until September for the love of everything, HELL NO I need to see the stopper in Beckett every 5 days, not every 6.... no no no no no no no no no no
March 27, 200422 yr Left-hander Darren Oliver, who was named as the No. 5 starter by McKeon, allowed five singles and one run in six sharp innings of the Marlins' 1-1, 11-inning tie with the Mets on Thursday. He struck out seven with no walks. Catcher Mike Redmond was impressed with his stuff. "He's got better stuff than Mark Redman," Redmond said of the former Marlins starter now on the Tigers. "He's got four pitchers and can throw them all when he wants." ... :thumbup

March 27, 200422 yr .... i say 4 man rotation until AJ gets back ... put Oliver on the pen exactly....
March 27, 200422 yr Oliver looked terrible in the game I saw, but he's done well in every other game he's pitched so far, I'm just hoping he can hold the fort down until AJ comes back and then will take the role of long reliever.
March 27, 200422 yr guyz remember a.j. is coming back from a big surgery,if oliver is doing a good job by the time a.j. gets back if sure jack is going to put a.j. not oliver in the pen and get him back slowly to ace form...
March 27, 200422 yr I am not sold with Oliver....he is very unstable and he has never had a solid season...lets see how this little fiasco turns out...Hopefully he will do great...
March 27, 200422 yr I would call last year a solid season for Oliver. What do you want him to do? He's a SOLID #5
March 27, 200422 yr 180 IP = 201 hits and 88 Strike Outs.... 5.04 ERA... 11 losses... VERY SOLID....LOL
