NUNEZ

I know we are only 10 games into the season but c'mon this guy freakin sucks.

he has pitch-hit like once.....he has started two games and is like 1-8 with like 4 k's.

I told you it does not matter what you do in the ST it matters when it counts and right now he is hitting like s***

c'mon fish put in cordero or give mordi/lenny some time in left since conine is in a slump.

I knew this guy was gonna struggle....i told you so and look at this crap.

I have never liked this guy and probably never will.

He would have to hit a HR to win the game in the ninth inning of the WS or something.

c'mon people....atleast one guy has to agree on giving this guy a rest and put somebody else in.

also this guy on the bench is like....i am not happy.....i want to play not sit on the bench....well you better be combtorable abe cuz you sitting on the bench for a long time you overated piece of s***

and you can quote me about this piece of garbage if you want.

yea he didn't look good at all. He had his chance to shine once. I think this is strike one for him. But then again he was hitting against their best pitcher Ortiz who is one helleva pitcher.

He was hacking every time up. He wants to prove his worth in one swing.

I wish he realizes he is not going to earn a starting spot, and would be smart to contribute by just making the consistent contact we've been lacking from our lineup.

The passion with which you hate Nunez makes me wonder if race plays a part in your position.

Obviously something is clouding your objectivity because you can't even get your facts straight - Abraham Nunez is hitting .300 not .125 but because your hatred is so palpable you can't allow yourself to let the facts get in the way of you emotions.

Facts:

He is batting .300 not .125

He has three strikeouts not four

The words you use, "hate", "sucks", "piece of sh*t", "piece of garbage" speaks volumes about mental health.

You want to see Lenny Harris in left field? In Atlanta? You must be kidding. Have you ever seen Lenny play? Have you ever even been to a baseball game? It's almost laughable were it not for vile nature of your post.

He's a Marlin, he had the third highest batting average of last night's starters by the end of the game.

Go crawl back under the rock you came from.

Give me a break! Just because we say he sucks it doesn't mean we are racist!

I agree with rferry, the guys is just too anxious to prove himself and that may hurt us more than help us. Conine is a proven player who is in a slump and him more than anybody else in the team deserves to prove he can come out of it!

I can't even believe some in here are starting to think of leaving him in the bench for a newbie who has not shown much! Shame on you!

The passion with which you hate Nunez makes me wonder if race plays a part in your position.

Wow where does that come from? How is race an issue, I mean the guy didn't say anything of the sort. That was a dumbass comment, and how things get blown out of perportion.

Now here is why the guy is right, although alittle too agressive for my taste. Nunez makes a team that just won a world series, and says that somebody should sit so that he could get some time. Let me explain something to those of you who seem to not really seem to be understanding this. This isn't a video game, you can't just bench a guy who has played his ass of for you and have him still be a happy camper. Now Niner probably won't b***h about riding the pine, because unlike nunez he is a pro, and knows when to keep his mouth shut.

All these comments bashing Nunez are unfair and unfounded.

I see several basing their opinions on a comment published in the Herald. The comments. How do you know they are accurate? I am not putting any weight into them.

Nunez had an excellent ST. This earned him a roster spot, nothing more. Not sure if any of the Nunez bashers actually went to ST games to see him. I happened to see him in 4-5 games, and he looked very good. Some of his HRs were monster shots. So the guy has good power.

Now he has a shot to stay in the bigs. I would really like to see what he can do, and won't find out with him sitting on the bench.

It takes time to adjust to MLB pitching. Look at Cabrera last year as an example. He had a great first week, and then slumped for over a month. Cabrera was swinging at sliders out of the zone, but he learned, made adjustments, and by the end of the season was hitting over .300.

The situation at the moment is Conine is struggling, apparently due to the severe sinus infection that sapped his energy.

Jack is accomplishing two things by playing Nunez. First he is resting Conine to help him recover. And second, he is taking advantage of the opportunity to give Nunez some quality playing time.

We should let this play out. We could have a diamond in the rough, and given a bit of polishing, will shine.

Nunez has looked terrible in his strikeouts, but I mean one does have to adjust to hitting major league level pitching. He doesn't get that in triple A. He has showed he has the skills, so he is definitely going to be a valuable asset in the future. Right now he just needs to see more pitches, and the better he will get. 1 or 2 starts a week will help him get to that point.

I think the problem here is:

We make to much sense and people can't get over their love affairs with players like Conine.

I really don't want to get into this stupid argument, but one thing I've noticed with Nunez while he's hitting .300 he hasn't hit many balls hard if any. During spring training he was hitting everything hard.

he has started two games and is like 1-8 with like 4 k's.

you pretty much proved why your post is invalid

thanks

Wow, u people hate him just becuz he's sad sitting out on the bench?? Sh!t, u ppl are ridiculous. And how many times has he started?? Hardly!!! He sucked last time he was up with the Marlins in 2002...

It goes without saying this isn't 2002. And if you look at how he did in 2003 and in the off-season.....you will see steady improvement.

Nunez has only had like 10 at bats this year and you're judging him on that??? please there are other players on the team, regular starters, that are doing worst. Your argument is ridiculous.

The thing that tells me that Nunez is horrible is his pitch selection. Did you see the pitches he swang at yesterday? They were over his head.

If he doesnt calm down and start swinging at better pitches he will not do anything for us now or ever in the future.

Benching a proven commodity like Conine because he's struggled for a week for Abraham Nunez because he had one good spring doesn't make any of your beloved sense.

He might not be ready for the Majors, the Minors might be better for him

He looked awful his first two at bats.

after the incredible spring he had i think people and the coaches are expecting a lot from him...including himself. The pressure is there and you can see that with his pitch selection. A couple of back to back starts and he'll be okay but i dont see that happening anytime soon, unfortunatly.

The minors aren't an option, unless we want to run the risk of losing him. He's out of options and would have to clear waivers first.

The minors aren't an option, unless we want to run the risk of losing him. He's out of options and would have to clear waivers first. Nunez would never clear waivers. The only way he is off the roster this year would be a trade. I don't see that happening right away....could be an option if the bullpen struggles and we need a mid-season bargaining chip.

My preference though is to watch him develop. If he does well, then he could be our future LFer.

The only reason that Nunez has even gotten into the starting lineup is because of Conine's slow start. He had a good ST. He deserves nothing as far as steady playing time goes. He has gotten two chances in 11 games to prove himself in the starting lineup, which seems like nothing but for someone who was only guaranteed a roster spot it is alot. He's pressing. He managed two hits, but he struck out on the same pitch twice. He was going to strike out on that same pitch a third time but I'm sure he held up because if not he wouldn't have seen the light of day ever again.

I'm not all for giving other people a chance, because everyone else on the bench is of veteran status. No, I'm for leaving the damn starting lineup how it is normally. Bench players are for playing sporadically, that is why they are on the bench. Have faith in the offense, it is 11 games in. We have 151 games to go, and I'm pretty sure the offense will kick in soon. But if you keep moving parts in and out and the offense won't exactly have a chance to gel and they'll just continue slumping.

Oh btw, the Yankess lineup is doing horribly right now. Do you think all of them should be traded and/or benched as well?

Id have to say anyone bashing Nunez is either stupid or an idiot. Yes, his first 2 AB against Ortiz he struck out on high cheese, however the third AB Ortiz tried the same tactic with 2 strikes and not only did Nunez hold off, but he singled the other way. He has what, 11 AB so far this season? Is he going to turn his ST success immediately into ML success? Probably not. He needs to see quality ML pitching consistently and then make his adjustments accordingly. I thought the example above proves he did that quite well and in the midst of only 3AB. But seriously, to say he sucks...comon your just an idiot.

Jeff Conine is no A-Rod or Jeter. They have a much greater chance of turning things around than he does because his problems can be attributed to woefully slow bat speed. If you've watched his AB so far this season you know he feels helpless up there. Only a true to the bone homer can deny this.

If you look at his previous years, his performance last year, the stats tell you that Conine is a notoriously slow starter. Bill Robinson, who I think knows more about hitting than all of us put together, tells you that Conine is a very slow starter. He always pops out of it, we have seen this with our very own eyes over the years. What's homer about that?
