If you could brink back 1 of these former Marlins

Funny to see how lots of people went 'turncoat' on Pudge because he went for the big money. They loved him when we had him and then went "oppo" when he left us. Who DOESN'T go for the big money in this sport??????? Can't blame him. Why should he be any different than the others?

He literally carried us through the post-season, and without him, we have NO championship last year. Thanks, Pudge - I for one appreciate all that you did.

I voted for him. His power/clutch RBI hits would be sweet on this team in the catcher position, and his leadership on the field wasn't too shabby either. Chemistry? NO DOUBT - it was FINE - we couldn't have won it all otherwise. So no risk in that department!

Pudge all the way on this one.

yeah, that's one edge Pudge would have on Renteria, i think he would provide more leadership. I still like Pudge alot. I heard an interview with him after he signed with Detroit and he was really praising the players on the Marlins saying how he loves them all and wishes them the best. I gotta belive he really wanted to stay on this team and I wish he would've taken less money to do so like Lowell and Castillo but I'm not gonna hate him for that.

I went with Renteria, he is a great all around player, he is a gold glove quality shortstop and is all star quality at the plate. I dont think any team in the league would pass on Edgar Renteria.

Or we could have disliked Pudge before he came here for his reputation of awful pitch-calling.

Or we could have disliked Pudge whjile he was here for all the rally-killing doyuble plays he hit into, or sucking after the All-Star break.

Or we could dislike Pudge for the simple reason that he equating the front office's decision to let him to the 1997/8 fire sale after we had already resigned Lowell, Luiy and Alex. Or the revelation that it was Redmond that led the pitcher-catcher meetings, and that Pudge was absent at times.

The NL pennant and World Series was great, but I could have lived with a winning record and a respectable performance by our catcher on and off the field.

Main Entry: [1]mer?ce?nary

Pronunciation: 'm&r-s&n-"er-E

Function: noun

Inflected Form(s): plural -nar?ies

Etymology: Middle English, from Latin mercenarius, irregular from merced-, merces wages ?more at MERCY

Date: 14th century

: one that serves merely for wages; especially : a soldier hired into foreign service

----------------------------------------

Some guys in this sport get their wages WITHOUT "serving" - (underachievers) - Pudge did his portion. No doubt.

Yeah - I can see where his "pitch calling was sub-par" - that was really "evident" in Game Six of the World Series (among others) LOL

And frankly, in sports, what is more important than the ring and the championship? Respectable performances and a good record? I THINK NOT.

I'm not gonna hate on Pudge any more but Renteria beats him in pretty much every offensive category and won a gold glove last year while being 6 years (I think) younger. Now tell me who you'd want more.

:mischief2 Hum....Edgar Renteria good on base guy solid executor , not to mention are SS cant hit anything.

Garry Sheffield no doubt

E.Renteria has not been too good offensivley since leaving the Marlins.

Sheffield is very consistant, defense and offense, 30+ Homeruns, and 100+ RBI's.

If Garry was not on the list, i would of gone for one of the best catchers in baseball. PUDGE.

WOW

.330 13 homers 100 rbis and an OBP of almost .400. yeah that's not very good. :lol

What about in 2001?

name me a season were garry hasnt hit good in.

Preston Wilson

Because of the $hitty catcher play today I picked Pudge, although Renteria would be a close second.

in 2002 and 2003 he emered as the best SS in the NL

bar none

all things considered

players production, age, durability, team need, connection to team, or any other reason you can come up with

EDGAR RENTERIA is the obvious choice

anyone that thinks otherwise needs their head examined

If Benito was on there, I'd choose him but that's because he's my all-time favorite Marlin. I like Edgar & I like Livan. But of course, I chose Pudge. :)

name me a season were garry hasnt hit good in. I wasn't talking about Gary, I'm talking about Renteria. Gary is 8 years older than Edgar and SS is a much bigger need for us than outfield. Not to mention Edgar plays gold glove defense and Gary is shakey in the outfield occasionally.

this was easy for me.

2003 stats:

Edgar: .330 avg .394 obp 13 hr 100rbi 194 hits .975 fpct

Pudge: .297 avg .369 obp 16 hr 85 rbi 152 hits .992 fpct

not to mention, pudge is probably better defensively, but edgar is much more valuable on the diamond, and is easily a better hitter

funny how people just mention pudge whos most recent and edgar cuz agon sucks...the logical choice is no doubt sheffield!! the man is a perrenial all star year in and year out...6 time all star i beleive..30 HR 100 Rbi 300 avg every year the last 4 or 5 years. The man is obviously one of the top 15 players in the game and no one is voting for him?? please spare me!
