May 12, 200422 yr Looks like Gracey is going to AAA: Roster moves: After Tuesday's game, the Marlins optioned Franklyn Gracesqui to Triple-A Albuquerque and selected the contract of right-handed reliever Toby Borland from Albuquerque. To make room on the 40-man roster, starter A.J. Burnett was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...s_fla&fext=.jsp Does this mean that Borland is going to be passing out treats in the bullpen tomorrow?
May 12, 200422 yr Author Borland is not a rookie...so no. I realize that, I guess I should have posted a J/K but it would have been funny nonetheless to see an old crafty veteran like Borland carrying around a pink bag.
May 12, 200422 yr Gracesqui had a tough indoctrination into the bigs. I expect we'll see him back again sometime. Good move though. Borland has been strong this year and could be the 8th inning guy we've been looking for.
May 12, 200422 yr I've been expecting this for several days. In previous posts I've suggested this was about to happen and I hope that this time Borland can actually get guys out in the bigs. History says he won't but ever the optimist, he's got to be better than Gracesqui. The Marlins' FO is obviously unable to find a trade partner and may not for at least another month or so. No doubt they're trying but this is their own fault, not being active during free agency has left us with a laughingstock of a pen. There will be alot of second-guessing upstairs over this one. Good luck Toby. Go Fish!
May 12, 200422 yr Speaking of which, what is Mike Neu's health status anyway? I hope we see Ben Howard in the bigs soon also. Borland hadn't done much in the past, but anything will help at this point.
May 12, 200422 yr Gracesqui has good stuff, I think he will be back at some point. I don't think we have anyone thrown into the water like he was
May 12, 200422 yr Gracesqui has good stuff, I think he will be back at some point.? I don't think we have anyone thrown into the water like he was I agree. I thought he looked good, threw hard. He should be back at some point and contribute. Gracesqui has found his true calling. Carrying a little pink bag around for real major leaguers. :mischief2
May 12, 200422 yr If Borland is doing good in the Minors then thats a good sign but he hasnt had much success up here in the MLB level. Lets see if he can handle it, if not bring up Hutch!

That being said, he does have good stuff, so I expect given more time in AAA he will be back in the bigs......but perhaps not until next year.
May 12, 200422 yr To make room on the 40-man roster, starter A.J. Burnett was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. Sorry guys, that's what I'm looking at. A.J. won't be back for two months?

May 12, 200422 yr I believe (not 100% sure) that they can say AJ is on the 60 days DL retoractive to April/1/2004. So he could be incorporated to the roster on June/6.
May 12, 200422 yr So they can move him to the 15-day DL whenever? No, it means that they can place him on the 60-day DL retroactively. He's already been on the DL for more than 60 days so at any point they can activate him now.
May 12, 200422 yr He's on the 60 day DL retroactive when he was first placed on the DL. April, May that's roughly 60 days. So give or take a day or two AJ can return anytime in June. Let's hope the FO doesn't rush him back because of our current pitching woes. His value is longterm and for numerous reasons I expect the FO look at it that way.

May 12, 200422 yr Speaking of which, what is Mike Neu's health status anyway? He has an injury in his throwing elbow.
May 12, 200422 yr It would appear that Gracesqui will be moved from the active roster to the 40 man roster, making room for Borland. I don't see the reason for moving AJ to the 60 day DL, unless this move takes him off the 40 man roster? If this is the case, then why not put Fox on the 60 day DL.....as he is further away from returning to the line-up?
May 12, 200422 yr To be on the active roster, Gracesqui had to already be on the 40-man roster. Borland wasn't on it. By placing AJ on the 60-day DL -- it allows them to add an extra man to the 40 man roster without taking AJ off it. As for why not move Fox, he hasn't been on the DL that long and his return date is still up in the air so putting him on the 60-day DL could be a bad idea. (This is a guess)

(This is a guess) It was reported yesterday that the most optimistic date for Fox to return would be in two months, with 3-4 months more likely. Anyway you slice it, AJ will be coming back first. I'm sure there must be a logical reason for all this....and I'm just missing it.

I'm sure there must be a logical reason for all this....and I'm just missing it. It's because AJ went on the DL first. AJ went on the DL back on 3/26. They can put him on the 60-day DL now, retroactive to 3/26, and activate him on 5/26 if they feel like it (they'd have to make another move). With Chad Fox, if they move him to the 60-day DL now, it would be retoactive to when he last pitched which is late April so they couldn't re-activate him until late June. Since AJ won't be ready by 5/26, this is the move to make in case Fox makes a strong recovery and is back by June 15th or so.

Borland has been strong this year and could be the 8th inning guy we've been looking for. If Borland is the 8th inning guy "we've been looking for" we are in serious trouble I dont mind Borland. he's a good AAA reliever and good to call-up in case of an injury or whatever but nothing else ... he's not a guy I would rely on for a long period of time. he's the only one with a little bit of experience so i'd take him in a heartbeat. Where's Ricky Bones when you need him? :lol
