i'm going to have to agree with all of you who noted cabs' horrendous fifth inning out in RF. he's got a great arm, but at times it seems the kid has absolutely no range out there. i don't know if it's a lack of hustle, a lack of speed, or a lack of instinct, but there's no way the dbacks would have put up 4 runs in that inning were it not for his poor play.

 

that said, the dtrain continues to disappoint. my god he needs some work. hands down, he is our most inconsistent starter. obviously oliver is the worst, but at least he's consistently bad. :lol

But I would not be at all suprised to see Jack play him there for one game to get a message across to Gonzalez that his job ain't safe.

You can complain about Conine's arm, but the fact is he would be an upgrade in right over the play we saw today and too many other times this season. Unless you want to bench Conine I don't see another solution because benching Choi isn't an option.

He does have 4 pitches....

 

Fastball, Slider, Curveball and Change but his slider and curveball move the same!

 

He doesnt need a new pitch, he needs to stop walking people.

 

This is one thing i noticed about D-Train....No control at all.

He doesn't have a change up... yet.

He does have an change-up. He had average one back in AA atleast. And that slider.. suspect at best.

You can't make them any better if you never throw them. Hell, watching him throw around the corners trying for a strikeout makes me wish he'd just throw even the most mediocre of pitches.

 

Listen I don't get off hatin' on Dontrelle. I know he was to blame today, and I pointed out Cabs' (and Pierre and Nunez) bad play in the game thread during the 5th inning. I'm just very frustrated that Willis, a kid with so much potential, continues to make the same mistakes game after game.

I was thinking on the way home that I never saw a playable ball go directly over Encarnacion's head. He had no trouble reaching flies to the warning track. And yes, Cabrera with his strong arm would have had a play at the plate if he fielded the ball cleanly.

 

Left is a better location for Cabs since there is less ground to cover.

Put Cabs back in LF and Conine in RF. That is my opinion, we did it towards the end of last year and it worked out alright.

The angles of the ball are completely different in left field, due to most balls being hit over there of the pulling variety. It comes off the bat differently, moves differently, slices differently, even looks differently.

 

Besides, he had no trouble there last season.

 

SIDE NOTE: I know because there are a million Nu?ez lovers this will go unmentioned, but what of his fly ball that he decided to take two steps in before he realized the thing was headed for the Monster? Web Gem if you ask me, right up there with his 9th inning K.

Gotta leave them where they are and live with Cabs growing pains. People need to give him a break, its pretty amazing that he does as well as he does considering he hasn't even played OF a full year yet. Much less switching sides of the field too.

To some degree I have to agree with you about Cabs in RF.

 

We've been spoiled watching him come up, learn 3B and LF in what seemed like an instant, we all expected that he'd transition smoothly into right.

 

As Juanky points out the ball does move differently going to right than left. let's hope that by the end of the seaon, if Cabs stays in RF, he's learned how to play the position. Right now though it's painful to watch.

Jack should try experimenting on Connine and Cabs, switch them for a while to see if it works.It wouldnt hurt to try.

i dont care who thinks am wrong but if i were running the fish id send willis to the pen now till he learns not to give the game away with walks and then throwing slower to throw a strike but it ends up as hits....give wayne or bring up a SP from AAA cause willis has now proven he's not ready to give quaility consecutive starts...

i understand that willis has more tallent than other guys do Mr.Awesome but as a Mgr. how long would you keep going with this guy that is struggling almost every other start and has bad control problems...last year when he came out of the pen he was real good and full of confidence...i think he needs that again before we keep sending him out there wondering which willis will show up...whats your opinion on this?

I feel the same way..... nobody got on WIlli's ass last year...... there has been times he looked like he was un hitable...... and all of sudden put his ass in the pen... lmao..... the s*** i read in here is unbeliveable......

Penny has actually made improvements while Willis has conttinually regressed since last year.

Baseball is all about adjustments. As a result its a game of cycles. This is really unbelievable. He was damn near unhittable not just last year at first but also this year. He had arguably the best start in baseball.
