June 24, 200620 yr I thought the movie was fluff. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great in my opinion (definitely NOT Oscar caliber material). And Johnny Depp playing a gay English actor in a pirate role just didn't work for me. It's safe to say I won't be seeing it. He wasn't a gay pirate. LOL He just walked the way he did because of all that drinking he did when he was on that island. It got to him bad. :lol Yah, sure... He was doing an impression he'd seen before, like Depp always does. Watch Sleepy Hollow and tell me he isn't im[personating silent film actors. I just didn't dig it. Johnny Depp was acting like ht ereal-;ive version of the guy who plays Magneto and Gandalf. That gay English actor. He was impersonating someone, yes. I forgot the actor's name though. :confused I read that Depp modeled his character after Keith Richards, the drummer of the Rolling Stones. He thought that pirates were the Rock stars of their day. ya, they actually tried to get Richards to to be in the 3rd film as his father. Speculation of legendary Rolling Stone Keith Richards joining the cast of the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequels has been raging on for more than a year now. Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow character exploded after the first film and Depp admitted that Richards was an influence. When news of the sequels traveled down the pipeline, stories immediately leaked that Richards would be playing the wobbly Captain's papa. Through the shooting of the sequels, through set visits and early talk with the cast and crew, nothing official was confirmed. IGN FilmForce was able to take in a screening of the film earlier this week. Sadly, no Richards appeared. So now, with the third film left, we took the question to director Gore Verbinski during our exclusive interview and he finally gave the answer we'd all been waiting for. "Keith is definitely going to be in the third movie? It's a small part, but it's a great part." So is he playing the father of Jack Sparrow? "No comment. To be interpreted." A longtime Stones fan, I commented to Verbinski that he needs to make sure that they get Richards to do press for the next film. Interviewing Richards would definitely qualify as a personal career high. Verbinski seemed excited at the prospect as well. "Well, he won't be at this one. At the next one, yeah, that would be great!" Now that we have a hint of what is in store for Pirates 3, will there be more Pirates to come? Johnny Depp confirmed with Newsweek that he was up for returning to the role in the future. Could we possibly see a prequel to the franchise where we'd learn more of Sparrow's backstory? Verbinski comments: "We're going to get a little bit of that in the third film, not so much in a flashback, but we're going to start developing his relationship with the East Indian Trading Company and what happened there..." "Right now, it's about finishing the trilogy. After that, whatever happens happens. I think the benefit of doing the two films together is not just the benefit of managing your assets and amortizing certain costs, but it's also about, when are you going to get the team back together? Because everyone's so busy doing different things. So you can talk about a fourth movie, but right now it's a lot of talk. It's a nice sign that Johnny still wants to [do it]. That character fits so well. But, I think, for me you've got to look at the three-pack DVD and go, 'Yeah, that's a whole story.'" http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/714/714538p1.html
June 24, 200620 yr Must be feel great to be KR in this film. I can hear the director telling him to "Just be you, Keith".
June 24, 200620 yr Well obviously it'd be a small part. He's not an actor by trade. All Englishman are capable of it. It's their trade, they practically invented the craft. It's rare you see someone from England who can't do it. Plus, he just has to play himself. Get drunk, smoke some "fags," whatever.
June 24, 200620 yr I read that Depp modeled his character after Keith Richards, the drummer of the Rolling Stones. He thought that pirates were the Rock stars of their day. Keef is the lead guitarist. Charlie Watts is the drummer. Sorry to nitpick.
June 24, 200620 yr Didn't Keith Richards just fall out of a cocunut tree recently? Ya he was in the hospital for a bit, but he should be fine. Another thing--I guess even though most of the filming for #3 was done during #2, there are still some scenes to shoot.
June 24, 200620 yr i hope the third one doesnt suck as much as matrix reveloution. It could be the way they cramed the shootings or that the story just completly sucked. either way im very excited for Pirates i loved the first one
June 25, 200620 yr I read that Depp modeled his character after Keith Richards, the drummer of the Rolling Stones. He thought that pirates were the Rock stars of their day. Keef is the lead guitarist. Charlie Watts is the drummer. Sorry to nitpick. Sigh... kids.

June 27, 200620 yr The rumblings, whispers and rumors are now over -- Keith Richards is officially onboard for a role in Pirates of the Caribbean 3. According to director Gore Verbinski himself, Richards will make an appearance in the third installment, albeit a small one. While Verbinski did not confirm who or what Richards would be playing, we all assume the character will be related in some way to Captain Jack Sparrow. Seeing as Johnny Depp used Richards as his inspiration behind Sparrow, it would be fitting if the Rolling Stones guitarist played Father Sparrow. I'm sure a script will leak online at some point so, until then, we're playing the waiting game.
June 27, 200620 yr We had Jim Hill on our Disney World podcast I do and he mentioned that Pirates 2 will be very similiar to Empire Strikes Back, in terms of ending. http://www.wdwtoday.com/article.php?story=20060626055251660

July 8, 200620 yr So, has anyone seen it yet? Thoughts?! Please remember to put spoilers in the spoiler tags. Example: [ spoiler ] Johnny Depp is sexy. [ /spoiler ] except do not put spaces in the brackets. Thanks!
July 8, 200620 yr I saw it, I enjoyed it. Keira Knightley has an amazing face, but needs to eat like 10 cheeseburgers.
July 8, 200620 yr I loved it. Definitely lost some of that 'originality', but that was completely expected. I think the plot went well and the character development was mostly nice. I'll expound tomorrow, I'm beat.
July 8, 200620 yr I actually used Fandango yesterday afternoon to make sure I got tickets and sure enough it sold out but I gotz mine! Anyway, I don't really care to talk about details....but it was really good
July 8, 200620 yr Really good sequel. It takes about 20 minutes to get going, but once it gets rolling its A LOT of fun. It's not going to win any awards, the writing isn't perfect, the acting isn't flawless, it is ridiculously over-the-top but it's TONS of fun and laughs which is exactly what you want a Pirates movie to be. 4th best movie I've seen so far this year behind Thank You for Smoking, United 93 and VfV. Really good.
July 8, 200620 yr It looks like POTC:DMC just broke the single day record at the box office. HSX is reporting that it made 55 million on Friday, which would beat RoTS by a full 5 million. Unbelievable numbers. It could make over 100 million in 2 days. Those numbers are unheard of. It absolutely crippled Superman. Very poor numbers for Supes.
