We have three options. Start A.J. burnett, start phelps, or start oliver. Would phelps or oliver really do that much better? At least Burnett is improving after coming off of major surgery. What are oliver and phelps' excuses for sucking?

I'll say it again. AJ biggest enemy, is AJ

Throwing a fit for Sampson and Beinfest not watching his rehab starts, not wanting to be out of the pen, and being childish about his start being pushed one day.

RESULTS:

0-2 10.80 ERA

He can throw one inning of good work... Great for him. Look at what he was doing when he was starting.

Can we skip AJ the next time around?

What good would that do?

Can we skip AJ the next time around?

Current Resident of the CapeFish Dog House: Josh Beckett/AJ Burnett :lol beat me to it, was just posting it.

The question here is, do the Marlins have time to wait? can we afford it?

Yes We are on top of the division-we dont need AJ. (atleast yet)

We are doing fine with him, so if he cant get the job done than he dosent deserve to pitch. We dont NEED him to pitch. you guys misunderstood my point...what I meant is: do the marlins have time to waste around a guy that might not be ready to pitch at the pro level right now??? we don't have time for projects, we're trying to win a division here. I'm pissed off that people are jumping off Aj's bandwagon, though. I mean, nobody expected him to be sharp coming out....everyone was saying how all players that undergo tommy john surgery take at least a YEAR to get back into full shape. That's why I ask myself if we should have someone who isn't 100% in the rotation, when we have others who can do a good job.

DO's last 5 innings of relief have been shutout, with 3 being perfect. He's starting to build a case...

I'm really excited about how DO's turning things around in the pen.....I think he could be a legitimate setup man or long reliever.

Exactly - as bad as he was, he's still less damaging than AJ right now.

I'm a sport, but I don't want to hit myself in the head with a hammer repeatedly because its going to feel so nice when I stop... AJ is sucking canal water right now and not lasting very long. DO may suck canal water, but at least he can last a while longer... canal water....wow

:notworthy

In 6 out of 8 starts oliver went 5 1/3 innings or less. not much of an improvement over burnett who will be pitching more innings as he progresses. After his 8 starts his era was 7.94. Need I say more? I see your point, but why take him away from a situation in which he is excelling?

even prior made what 3 real starts in the minors? and he was only out for 2 months.

So then you'd agree with this?

After this start, consider it five rehab starts. His next start is A.J.'s debut IMO.

Which I stated just 10 minutes ago. Let's expect something reasonable from A.J. five days from now.

aj should of been in the minors.

and no i dont agree with you.

aj should of spent at least a month in teh minors making real rehab starts.

prior out 2 months and making 3 rehab starts.

aj out 1 year and makes 1 real rehab start.

smart.

I'd like to see Das back up his statements once in a while without insulting other people and just saying stuff like "Who cares" and "Right."

did i not make a legitimate statement in my first post?

or did you ignore that?

Face it, AJ is going to go through ups and downs on his way back.

Returning to form will come in steps. Recall last start he threw nothing but fastballs until the 4th inning. Tonight he started the game with a curveball, and only threw 10 pitches in the first inning.

There definitely was progess made tonight. He got behind in critical counts, and threw a very hittable fast ball down the middle of the plate. He'll start to get out of these situtations when his control returns.

We are going to have to go through a few of these games, and putting him in pressure situations will ultimately accelerate his return.

Have patience. And don't expect much until after the All-Star break.

And then you said he wouldn't be sharp automatically. Wow. Captain Obvious to the rescue.

Since when has Phelps been sucking? He was solid in the pen, and 2 out of his 3 starts have been solid. I'm not saying he's better than AJ I'm just saying that you are wrong for saying he has sucked.

The lack of patience from people on this board at times amazes me to no end. Sometimes I don't know whether to stop coming, because people are completely out of their mind, or to keep coming for the same reason.

AJ Burnett just came back from Tommy John surgery. He came back faster than expected. He is coming back to be the 5th starter on one of the better pitching squads in the majors right now. We cannot have a perfect game thrown every damn day of the week. Not everyone is going to be All Star, Hall of Fame caliber player. Not every player that produces for one month is going to produce for the rest of his life, and vice versa.

Many of the fans of our team, the few we actually have despite what attendance numbers tell you, are spoiled. You are all spoiled by winning two World Championships in a span of 7 years, when the club is only 11 years old. Other teams wait decades upon decades, other teams have still yet to taste the thrill of ultimate victory, and we have it twice. We are the defending champions even. Does this mean you win every game? No. Players go entire careers without winning a title. Older, Hall of Fame caliber players get traded from teams they've played with their whole careers just for the chance to win a title. Not for the actual title, but just for a chance. Most never lift the cup, or the trophy, or get the big ring. Most never get to put their lips to the gold or silver piece that says World Champions on it. But we've done it twice.

I long for the days of the Firesale ripple effects. Why? Because we weren't spoiled. We loved and lost. Sure, I wasn't aware of any of this until last July, but I was glad to wear my gear with pride in 98 and 99 and root for the team. None of the complainers were there. But now people come out in full force, questioning whether a starter should have more rehab because he didn't come back Cy Young, whether our current Gold Glove caliber shortstop isn't good enough at the plate as compared to our previous shortstop, another Gold Glover. If our current first baseman, in his first full season, showing Gold Glove potential plus the kind of long ball power chicks dig isn't as good as our previous first baseman, who got a grace period.

What you people all do to the team on a nightly basis is downright disgusting. I'm not going to say I don't criticize the team at times as well, because I do, as does everyone here. But people, these are 25 human beings on a baseball field. They aren't perfect. Our pitcher, the most talented pitcher on the damn staff IMO, just came back from TJ. Any other staff would be THRILLED at the chance to have what we just got back. Any of them. Cubs, A's, Yankees, Astros, Red Sox all included. Any other fan would slit a wrist to have an AJ Burnett caliber player coming back from injury so quick. And you people whine and complain that he isn't smoking major league lineups yet?

Please, all of you. STFU.

Maybe "sucked" was a little extreme. In his last start he got hammered more than anyone I've seen this year. He is an inconsistant starter at best, which begs the question, is it that much of an upgrade over aj?

Right on the money man.. between this, the Nunez bandwagon and the A-Gon haters, sometimes I get very frustrated by some of the stuff I hear on the board.
