Everyone needs to realize that we dont have the horses right now to win the division. Decent SP but no bullpen other than Benetiz. Weak at C, 1B and in general hitting. Like stated in the paper this morning, Pudge always kept rallys alive with clutch hitting,,,,this year we have no one who does that.

We lost 3 close to 100RBI guys from last year and replaced them with ?

well thats no fun

The only 100 RBI we had last year is still on the team. 2 close to 100 have been replaced with good enough players. :thumbup

We have the talent to win...and no one is running away with the division. Fudge kept rallies alive because he made contact and hit the ball the other way. Conine could do the same... :mischief

We lost absolutly nothing with Encarnacion. Lee had a pretty good season, but there was no way of keeping him long term, and Choi has filled in nicely.

Yeah, Pudge is gone, but give Willingham a year or two.

Juan was a damn good right fielder and hate on him all you want....he put up decent numbers in the 6 hole.

94 Enc

92 Lee

105 Lowell

77 AGON

85 Pudge

64 Cabrera

Cabrera picked up some of those so far, AGON is on pace and Lowell on Pace. Still looking for another 180+ from two guys

Cabrera did his damage in what 4 months....i think if you averaged it out to a full year he was near 90....

There still is a gaping hole in run production.

of course this team was running a hell a lot more last year and that team speed is missing in addition....

it's the catching spot where we lost all the run production, pure & simple.

cabs & even a slumping Niner are putting up close to what Enc & Cabs/Hollandsworth did last season.

The front office gambled that Castro would be able to replace some of Pudge's production. They gambled & lost on that one.

Well, we might as well mail it in because the only impact bat available is due to get injured within a month of arriving, and the other 24 players on the roster don't think they can get the job done.

We hit the ground running and that made everyone giddy with excitement. What I don't see this year that we had last year was the underdog attitude. Pierre touched upon it once in a recent interview. I think we need that spark again. Surely there are enough people on the team to make it to the playoffs. i don't know if we'll go to the WS this year again- a feat extremely hard to repeat, but we can get the pennant.

The problem is there is no confidence on this team. Loria and Co. could have helped if they had just gone out in the last couple of weeks and gotten either a bat or someone for the BP. NO he just sat on his ass and his moldy money. If he had done gotten someone (besides Koch) like especially a bat, it would have sent a positive message to the team. It looks to me like the FO is waiting until the last minute so they don't have to spend money and can unload players if things aren't turned around. I don't understand these guys who buy these teams. It's gonna cost you money if you want to win. PERIOD. It is also obvious that everyone on this team from the FO to Jack McKeon to the coaching staff to the players just were unable to handle the pressure from winning the WS to continuing that winning way this year. Plus everyone is under pressure to win so they can get the taxpayers to help pay for a new stadium. I wish them good luck against the Phillies but I think there is no winning spirit on this team at all!

Why if the team isn't hitting wasn't there a change in the hitting coach? That may have helped spark the team but for some reason Bill Robinson can't be fired. (I won't even go into that) That should have been done over 6 weeks or so ago.

AHHH it's so frustrating!! :banghead

This is not a championship calibur baseball team!

HOWEVER, this is by far the easiest division to win in baseball so we are still in the race. The next week will decide how much of a chance we really have. Getting swept by the Expos was just down right embarassing especially considering earlier in the year we could have beaten them with our eyes closed. If we take nothing less than 3 from 4 against the Phillies then we are done and should concentrate on keeping Pavs and making a very serious pennant run next year.

Also, memo to Loria, GET A BAT!

rbi's are so dependent on the hitters in front of you, you can't determine the performance of a player by rbi's. Cabrera and Lowell have a lot of rbi's because they have Luis and Pierre in front of them. Conine has just sucked, no excuses there, as much as I hate to say it. Choi doesn't have a lot of rbi's because Conine has hit infront of him most of the year, and a big reason Sea Bass has a lot of rbis is because he has Choi hitting in front of him, who has the highest OBP on the team.

Keeping Dillion in AAA is a crime.

Yeah, like he'll do SO much better up here riding the pine. These guys aren't going to start over ANYONE in our lineup right now.

Yeah, but 4 or the 5 hitters in front of Choi are hitting .290 or better, so they must be getting on base. And he has, what, 37 RBI's?

The fact of the matter is, Cabrera has more than twice as many at-bats with RISP than Choi, and Lowell has almost twice as many at-bats with runners in scoring position. You give Choi as many at-bats with RISP as those two and he has well over 50 rbis.

It's nice to see all this Optimism, it's exactly the boost our team needs, keep up the good work. :thumbup
