July 27, 200421 yr i kno conine had a good night and im all for it , im a fan of his , but so many people are gonna start saying ohh hes back but hes not just beacuse he has one good day a week doesnt mean hes back i hope he does well with hopefully finley breathing down his neck
July 27, 200421 yr I rather stick with Conine than trade for one year rental Finley. 477667 I agree that Finley is not the best fit for our team. He would insist on playing CF which would push JP to left. If we are talking with the D'Backs, our attention should be with Danny Bautista.
July 27, 200421 yr we should not get finley. Admin walker, on the other hand, should be our #1 priority. honestly, a normal Admin walker is equivalent to a jeff conine on a hot streak
July 27, 200421 yr Author i really want finleys bat but would rather walker if possible beacuse really the last thing this team needs is a vetern cf wit an attitude thats his way or the highway

July 27, 200421 yr I don't see what the big deal with JP moving to left is. Finley has won several gold gloves and even at his age is an above average center fielder, and I'm sure JP will be able to handle the transition to left. I certainly am against going after Walker. No sense in giving up prospects and using money that could be used to resign Pavano and Benitez this offseason on a guy that will most likely get hurt. If Walker were just a half-year rental I might be alright with it, but we need the money that Walker would command next year to keep this pitching staff together.

July 27, 200421 yr well, if we move JP to left, we'd probably see more doubles 477734 What do you mean? They already take advantage of his arm turning singles into doubles all the time in center. I think moving JP to left would actually cut down on that.
July 27, 200421 yr steve finley = primma donna Admin walker + injury problems = not worth it danny bautista + conine/choi platoon + trading nunez = killer
July 27, 200421 yr i wouldnt say conine is back yet, but he is pretty damn close. he has been on fire lately.

The fact of the matter remains that Walker would hurt us big time come off-season.
July 27, 200421 yr Funny, I have been saying this all season long. We have enough talent to contend for the division title, but another bat would be nice. And unless there is a clear upgrade out there, I dont see a reason to make a deal. Bautista is NOT a significant upgrade. Finley I am not comfortable with (doesnt hit lefties well, for starters) and Walker, if healthy, would be a great fit here but I dont like his contract and I think we would have to jettison Choi to get Conine the PT he deserves. I am not so sold on that, not for Walker. I would rather a younger, cheaper bat. I dont see that happening though.

July 27, 200421 yr If Conine can produce down the stretch, the team still needs a player like Rob Mackowiak.
July 27, 200421 yr Bautista we defintely dont need, and even if we could get him have we even talked to arizona about him? I think what we need most is pen help.
July 27, 200421 yr Finley doesn't want to come here and Walker would cost us too much. Neither deal is going to happen. POSSIBLE TRADE SNAG In Jason Stokes and Bill Murphy, the Marlins might have the prospects to convince Arizona to part with center fielder Steve Finley. However, they might not have the cash to make the deal happen. Finley, a prospective free agent who can reject any trade, is said to be leaning toward San Diego, where he has a home. However, talks between the Padres and Diamondbacks have moved slowly. Monday, there were indications Finley's interest in the Marlins may be waning. "He'll be looking for a team's commitment to the future," said a source close to Finley. "If a team is just going to give up prospects to rent him for two months, it's unlikely he'll go there. If that's the way Florida is thinking, that would push them down the list." Finley, the source said, would prefer to play for a team at least open to the possibility of re-signing him this winter. The Marlins don't fit that description, while the Giants, Dodgers and Phillies likely do. Arizona has told Finley it hopes to have a deal in place by Thursday. Meanwhile, the Marlins and Rockies continued discussions about outfielder Admin Walker, but the sides were having significant trouble bridging the financial and talent gaps. "It's not dead, but I don't think they'll get anything done," said a source familiar with the talks. Link to full article
July 27, 200421 yr Bautista would be a significant upgrade for Conine. R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA BA RISP OBP SLG OPS Danny Bautista 45 106 18 1 10 51 23 40 .309 .308 .357 .455 .811 Jeff Conine 29 80 21 0 7 42 29 50 .261 .190 .322 .399 .721 Bautista can also bat 3rd which is a big advantage. We should look at getting him and having Conine platoon with Choi at 1B.
