Ice Man
Is it possible for Pavano to wint he Cy Young this year? If Shcmidt is injured?
FishFanPR
long shot, IMO...
PBMarlin
Yes, considering Schmidt is coming off an injury and may not pitch as well down the stretch, Pavano has a legitimate shot at the NL Cy Young. I hadn't considered it really, but looking at it he does have a decent chance.
Fish Tank Frenzy
I love Pavano's pitching this year but there is no way he wins Cy Young, with the Big Unit having a great season and Ben Sheets having a great season...with that said I would love to see Pavs win it

Assuming Schmidt falters and opens the door for others, there are several others with 13 wins. Sheets has a 9-9 record....so is totally out of contention. DTrizzle
i do not believe pavano has a chance with schmidt around schmidt has more wins than pavs even with all the injuries not to mention ERA pavano doesn't even deserve it compared to schmidt
PhishPhan
If its not Jason it'll be the Unit. He played his heart out for a last place team, got the perfect game, a zillion k's like always, and is in the twilight of his career. On top of that Pav is a Marlin, Marlins are lucky to be considered for gold gloves.
Marlins
No way. There have been a few picthers who pitched great this year...like Ben Sheets and Randy Johnson... But there aren't that many people in Pavano's way of getting it...but I doubt he will get it.
CitanX
If Pavano passes Schmidt in wins, and stay .30 points close to schmidt's ERA He has a good shot in winning it
djm305
Pavano is 2nd in the NL with 14 wins, only Shmidt with 15 wins has more, there are quite a few with 13. But Pavano only has 5 losses and a 2.97 ERA, he does not have the strikeouts but if he keeps winning and ends the season with 19 or 20 wins then he may very well be considered, may not win but should be nominated. Ice Man
Schmidt: W 15 L 4 ERA 2.52 Pavano: W 14 L 5 ERA 2.97 if schmidt falters, i believe pavvy could possibly do it....
Marlins
I got an idea: Since it seems like a possibility that the only one that Pavano has to pass is Jason... Why don't we beat up on him when we play him and make him give up alot of runs and give him the loss so Pavano won't have to worry about Jason taking the cy young. Lets try it! Guest Juanky
Schmidt won't be playing the Marlins anytime soon And CY Young will not go to a last place pitcher.
Ramp
i hope Pavvy doesnt win it....
Marlins
ramp: why?
Ramp
so we wont have to resign a Cy Young award winner.... just Carl Pavano
Craig
If Pavano carries the marlins to a wild card birth (which is very possible) i'd say he has a very good shot at winning the Cy Young. With that said though, Ramp is right in that you don't want him winning the Cy Young because there is no way the Marlins can afford to resign a relatively young horse who is coming off a Cy Young award winning season. Accord
Ramp is right, if Pavs with the Cy Young, he's definitely gone next year or we will have to give up a lot (i.e. Benitez/Lo Duca) just to keep him.
Flamarlins3
Pavano would have to win his last 6-7 starts, and the Marlins would have to make the playoffs to win it. But like others have said, it would guarenteed PAvano would be a goner, but would you rather have playoffs this year or or Pavano next is the real question. QuickGold
It's about as likely as Marlins winning NL East
