September 15, 200421 yr You can still trade for someone who cleared waivers, he just won't be eligible to be on your playoff roster if you make it. The Red Sox traded Lew Ford for Hector Carrasco in late September 2000. 559519 Good move by them. :plain 559524 no kidding... morans.

September 15, 200421 yr Minirvini just reported AJ only has inflammation and will miss his next start and the FO is expecting him to be available for the rest of the season. I think they will be cautious though.
September 15, 200421 yr They should have been cautious from the beginning. He's a hard thrower and he should have been limited in his pitch count from what is normal. I know they want to win games but Jack McKeon may have screwed his team. Of course, as I have said before, Jack is known for ruining arms!

September 15, 200421 yr Well, if he is out for the rest of the season then he won't be able to command much in arbitration. Then again he may be out until 2006 and we may lose him anyway. Crap. Please, Nate Bump, Ben Howard, Aaron Small stand up and pitch decently enough for us to make the playoffs.
September 15, 200421 yr I believe *Expos Ranchos* and I have it right. The Marlins can trade for ANYONE who has cleared waivers, and since literally a hundred players (combined both leagues) have cleared waivers this fall, there are a bunch of players available. The fact that they may be unavailable for the post season is an irrelevancy, the playoffs are a zillion years away right now (actually its three weeks but who's counting).
September 15, 200421 yr Damn it is true. Last night at MLB.com i saw a headline starting w/ "Burnett" and i didnt click on it since i hadnt seen anything on marlinsbaseball.com. This sucks.
September 15, 200421 yr He's probably been our most dominating starter lately. We got around this stuff last year (Lowell's injury), and hopefully, someone will step up and fill in for him abley.
September 15, 200421 yr With the way we have bene playing we don't need him. Hes just one peice of our team guys. We can still do it. It may be harder but there is no reason to lose hope because of this.
September 15, 200421 yr damn. hopefully hell be ok. we really need him. but we can still make it, its not like that takes us off the map.i hope to see burnett back tho!!
September 15, 200421 yr Oh, c'mon y'all! This is only a minor setback. Burnett will be available in 9 days. He has inflammation and that is pretty normal. No structural damage or strains, based on the reports thus far. So dont go forcasting the worst just yet. And even if AJ cant pitch for the rest of the season, we have plenty of options. I agree with Marlins2003 and Co. that we could always trade for someone to help us out in the meantime - eventhough they wont be onthe playoff roster. But still, that is far down the line. I think we will be fine and AJ will only miss this one start. Pretty impressive nonetheless considering he came back early from injury. And dont start this BS with pitch counts. This is my point ALL ALONG on such philosophy - you CANNOT prevent injury. It happens whether a guy pitches 5 or 500 times. AJ didnt show any signs on his last outing and you know what? He overexerted himself. That is all. Chill out.
September 15, 200421 yr With our schedule through the end of the season this team is dead in the water without AJ OR AN EQUIVALENT .
September 15, 200421 yr Last night at MLB.com i saw a headline starting w/ "Burnett" and i didnt click on it since i hadnt seen anything on marlinsbaseball.com. 559614 Yesterday MLB.com had an article about the Pirates' Burnett, who is out for the year.
September 15, 200421 yr Oh, c'mon y'all! This is only a minor setback. Burnett will be available in 9 days. 559632 Exactly. :thumbup Stop worrying so much guys...
September 15, 200421 yr Then it's dead, because there's not a player on the trade market close to AJ. Unless Randy wants to come here, or we also want to take on Jason Kendall/Bobby Higginson/someother overpaid player's contract. The players we have now need to step up.
September 15, 200421 yr It's just inflamation, really not a big deal and he should only miss this one start.

We weren't that close before...How do you think we got there?
September 15, 200421 yr I almost died when I found out. Hope my baby is ok. IHe better not miss 2 weeks like Benitez. :confused
September 15, 200421 yr good news: Sep 15: Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett will miss his scheduled start on Friday due to right elbow inflammation. Burnett underwent an MRI on Wednesday, and the results showed the inflammation. He underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2003. "He probably got a little scared and wanted to have it checked," manager Jack McKeon told he Associated Press. "He had it checked. Everything is fine. He probably needs a few days' rest." The Marlins have not named a replacement starter for the game. overreaction, but i don't blame u, i did the same thing hopefully this is confirmed soon from somewhere else
