Kensing did fine considering the circumstances. He definatley wasn't ready for MLB hitting, hopefully it doesn't stall his development.
September 23, 200421 yr Logan Kensing has some good stuff, he just has to learn how to pitch rather than throw, look at Johan Santana, early in the season he was horrible, finally he has learned how to pitch, Kensing will be a real good player in this league someday...be patient
September 23, 200421 yr I agree that Kensing has to work on his location. He has some nasty stuff - like that breaking ball when he throws it for strikes. But there is just such a big difference between veteran MLBers and minor league prospects. I think Kensing did fine and I am very impressed with his presence on the mound as well as his mental makeup. He didnt seem to get down, just kept it going and tried to get through as many innings as Jack would let him.
September 23, 200421 yr If he could add a changeup to his fastball/slider combo, I'd go as far as saying he has ace stuff. That's a nasty 2 seamer if I've ever seen one. He doesn't seem to be able to locate his fastball at high velocities, though. He misses pretty badly every time he cranks it up to 96-97 MPH. If he can somehow control his stuff and add another pitch, he could be a damn good one.
September 23, 200421 yr The season is over for us and we've got nothing to lose by giving him another start right now. However, it was a MASSIVE mistake to allow this kid to pitch when the WC race was still close and we had a very good chance of winning.

September 23, 200421 yr I'm no Wayne Rosenthal so if the kid has potential (read: capacity to throw more than a fastball) then let him finish out the season and get his cuts. But next season, he's back in A or wherever and let him work on his stuff.

That place is a launching pad and it is hard for pitchers to develop any confidence there. Some perspective will be needed if we start getting our pitchers up there and they all of a sudden start giving up a lot of runs.

Of course I dont know all the circumstances that led up to him being called and not someone else, but it was still a questionable move, the three starts he's had so far have been blow out losses.

McKeon should have the final say on lineups, pitching rotation, etc. He shouldn't HAVE to pitch Kensing. Interesting point though- maybe he was taking a shot at management for bringing him up so early? Though I think McKeon has a say in those decisions, too.
September 24, 200421 yr Logan has great stuff, he just needs to stop getting nervous and make his pitches. He is still gonna start if we are out of this race completely, if not mckeon will go with a 4 man rotation.
